@@TomOHalloranAus I agree, if at all possible this would be a great series, especially with climbers who you have personal experience with. I really believe what you said about watching the stronger climbers around you, but I don't really get to see pro climbers, or people who climb very hard all that often, so this kind of analysis is invaluable.

Sounds good. Super happy to share some of these along the way. I've climbed with and been a round a few of the big names

The 'non-stop' attitude reminds me of a time I went climbing with a well-known Blue Mountains route developer. We did a fairly big route which was I think 4 pitches, at the top he led the last pitch yelled "you guys are good to lead this again right?", then untied and literally jogged off, then rapped in and bolted a different route while we topped out. Then on the way home (at like 5pm) he mentioned there was another crag just here, had we ever climbed there? So we pulled over and walked in to another crag and did another 3 routes on dark. Absolutely eye-opening to my younger self, for how much some people just love climbing and the sheer amount of work they do.

Haha yes, some people just have another level of energy for it all. Sounds like an epic day you had haha. That's a lot to pack in

Alex Megos climbed at my home gym earlier this year when I was there and what I learned from climbing with Alex Megos is that he and I have the same swim trunks, and apparently you can climb in them.

@@TomOHalloranAus Note that when I say I climbed with Alex Megos, I mean we climbed in vaguely the same area of the gym and didn't speak to one another. But we have the same swim trunks!

Love it! And as a person with relatively high amounts of free time, I try this approach. But get shut down by injury again and again. Guess being nearly 50 means another attitude is needed (I'm trying!).

The injury hamster wheel sucks to get stuck in. I hope you find the way forward soon. Good sleep, rest between sessions and nutrition are my go to's when I'm in that space

Anther awesome vid Tom, very nice. Really liked the progression of small goals until you get to the redpoint go. Will give that a go to my next projects. Cheers

Thanks mate 😀. Breaking a route down into those small goals is a massive win tactic. Makes thing feel a lot less daunting and keeps you feeling like your on a roll 😀. Good luck with the next project✌️

very cool video, and i am sure that must have been an amazing experience! also alex megos is on record about speaking about his past training, and how it was too much, and that one thing he would change if he could do it again is having more rest! i think this interview is from struggle or climbing nugget podcast!

Great vid Tom! You provide some wonderful insights into more nuanced approaches for tackeling your sport-climb proj. Do you have any thoughts/tips for other kinds of goals during sessions or individual burns on a route? Are there process-goals you use which perhaps move away from every burn having to be productive in terms of making high points or sends?

I have touched on some of this things in previous videos, but not made one really nailing into it. I might make one soon though as I currently working through the redpoint mud on a project :)

The "crazy natural advantage" in most cases is the ability of their bodies to take that much training while being able to recover and not get overuse injuries.
@TomOHalloranAus
@TomOHalloranAus Жыл бұрын
to a degree, yes. though I think there's a component of good nutrition and clever approach long term that plays a good part as well. some people just seem to be built a bit more robust than others

unfair advantage: money. give some money (time to train, equipment, travel money etc ) to the developing countries and you very soon will see how "the bests of the world" were only averages.
