3 Levels of Rolling Bassline for Peak Time Techno in Ableton Live’s Wavetable Synth

The typical rolling bass line is best known from the psytrance genre. But more recently it has found its way into peak time techno. It can be heard in tracks by Eli Brown, Teenage Mutants, Space 92 and many more. In this video, Lukas shows you how to create the typical galloping 16th bass line using Ableton Live's Wavetable synthesizer, with 3 levels of complexity.
The first level involves writing and designing the MIDI line and synth patch. The second level is all about tweaking the sound and the MIDI. Level 3 involves processing, mixing and layering.

Psytrance 101 😁 You might do well to mention the necessity of an oscilloscope to check phase alignment of kick and bass. If there's phase cancellation between them it can really deaden the impact of the low end (especially on the 2nd beat of the bar)

Using an Oscilloscope is an excellent way of staying in control over phase-relations. As we try to use mostly everything stock ableton, the resampling is actually a great workaround to visualization!

@@SINEEGlobal I feel like all DAWs should come with a stock scope. So useful for seeing how the sound actually changes in real time. There are good free scopes available. Psyscope for Windows and Occularscope for Mac. Both allow for sidechain input so you can see kick and bass in different colors if desired

Hey! You would normally decide for one of the two, because having both would definitely overpower your lowend.

Man, editing so closely that you're measuring the size of the audiowaves where the bass notes' transients actually begin and end is just too much for me lol. Interesting stuff tho, glad to know some producers are going this far and deep on stuff but I can't spend 20 hours editing the bass notes anymore.
