THIS STORY:
It was June 11, 1966.
"There was a picnic grove and local Cub Scout groups had gathered. You could hear the laughter as the kids played games like baseball, running races and sack races. Hot dogs, pop and ice cream was served. Many happy faces, a typical picnic of that time.
Being young adventurous kids, a friend and I followed a dirt trail into the woods. The trail ran parallel to a branch of the Chicago River. It ended at an embankment up to a train trestle. We sensed danger and turned back. Four little girls came the opposite way, passed us, and headed straight to the trestle. Then we heard an approaching hum and felt the rumble below our feet.
There was no way the engineer could stop the train. A couple of other kids ran back to the grove to call out for help. A few fathers ran down the trail to see what had happened. Panic ensued as the mothers in the grove scrambled to find and gather their children...."
THIS CHANNEL:
_________________________________________________________
The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

Absolutely heartbreaking. 🌹💔🌹💔🌹 My grandpa was born in 1910. At 17 years old he was driving his father to work one early morning before dawn. He thought he could get over the train tracks before the train got there. He was very wrong. 😔 He got thrown from the vehicle, and sustained a head injury. His father died instantly. From that moment my grandpa (after spending 12 months in the hospital) became the head of the family, responsible for his mother and raising his much younger siblings. 💔 He married my grandma at 22 and they raised 6 children, & they were married for 74 years!

This is so sad. I remember playing on the railroad tracks when I was a kid. We used to lay pennies and other coins on the track when we heard the train coming and go back get them after the train left. It was just on dry land where we could run up to it and run back away from it. I think all kids are intrigued by the trains at some point in their lives. I hope these little girls are resting in peace.🕊👼👼👼🕊 Stay safe out there Ron.🙂💟

I remember flattening pennies on the tracks when I was a young teen, I thought it was the coolest thing seeing the interesting shapes they turned into. The engineers would be blasting the horn and flinging his arm out the window waving us away from the tracks. Looking back it was a foolish dangerous endeavor.

These stories help bring closure to those who hear about them. I always wonder about the parents in these stories. They first hear of the shocking news and they must go through heart-wrenching agony. They carry some bit of that agony with them to their graves. What do they think when the girls' schoolmates graduate from high school, knowing their daughters could have been there? What do they think when the girls' friends get married and have children, knowing that their daughter will never have that joy?

@@BillGreenAZ Bill Green, how special we all are? You have outlined the repercussions explicitly. Each time they came to my mind, I tried to erase them, but I finally had to come to terms that these were exactly how the girls' family thought of over they years. What a terrible thought and feeling! I am confident that God blessed and comforted them over the years. I know they found the solace they deserved.

Oh my. My heart aches for these little angels and their parents. One can only imagine their last moments of terror as the train bore down on them. I find it particularly poignant, Ron, visiting the sister’s graves as rain falls. I also find it interesting that the boys turned around, but the little girls ventured forth to the trestle, toward danger. Do we know anything about the little girl who survived? I would think this incident might haunt her via survivor’s guilt. The train engineers as well. A tragedy for all involved. R.I.P. Alexis, Diane and Marlene. Sweet Little Girls. 🙏

We had a railroad about 3blks from us 1967 or so when I was about 7 or 8yrs old in Bham, Alabama. I had 2 good girlfriends and we 3 girls loved to go there and wave at the people and had the whistle blow. Our mom's would whip our butts. I never knew the dangers we were putting ourselves in until I got older. My mom was a good woman and left biscuits in a sack for the "hobo's"on our fence. We didn't stick around to watch them though because my mom told us they'd come back and eat our supper. LOL, believe me in those times it was scarce. We weren't poor but hardly a nickle to rub together. This story is a sad one to me. I enjoyed it, thanks. 3 girls could have been us.

Thank you Ron for sharing this heart aching story and for remembering these 3 girls lost so tragically. The deaths of young children are such which make me, a man closing on 50 years, to feel speechless. When I studied I used to work in congregations and churches, there were often funeral services held. What was difficult for me personally was to see those little coffins, even though you had to be professional, you were aware that the tears were waiting around the corner for their opportunity to appear and to pour down your face. It just felt somehow so unnecessary and unfair. Rest in peace, little ones. 💔💖

Thank goodness nothing happened but a train went by right after we were done. My heart sank. How could I be so stupid. I deleated the picture because it is a scary reminder. So sad, I once live 1 block away from train track, when my son was about 8 years old. I didn't get freaked out, until he started bringing pennies and nickels home that I've been ran over by a train. Realizing that he was really messing around the train tracks, I felt really, really weirded out about it, it needed to stop, so I moved us to the country. His 2 little friends, that lived in the town by us, they were always messing around the train tracks. Well one day, one of them was on their bicycle and it stopped to put some pennies and nickels on the tracks and got their foot stuck between the rail and the block that holds the rail up and got hit by train, he was only 13 years old! The other little boy grew up to be 18 years old, out driving and stopped on the same train tracks to wave at another friend and didn't see the train coming. He never looked, his friend said! So, I am thankful my son and I left that town. He's going to be 37 year's old this coming August.

Heartbreaking: such young lives lost. Tragic also for the girl who jumped & the boy who warned them & caught her. RIP children.

Loosing a child is parents worst nightmare and in this case it’s even worse because of the way they gone 🙏🏻 RIP

Yes, I agree, Losing a child is the worst nightmare a parent can face but when the child died in a horrific way it only doubles the grief and trauma a parent endures. My husband lost one of his three sons in a traffic accident, an almost head-on collision in which the driver of both cars lost their lives as well. His son was just 17. This was 24 years ago and my husband still feels the trauma of losing him. It's something a parent learns to live with but they never, ever get over it.

@@lynnquin8565 Sorry to hear that and I can totally understand that because my sister lost one her twin sons to cancer when he was 17 back in 2014 and his room looks like a shrine it’s always tidy with all his clothes in the wardrobe, always on her mind and what we say to her is thank God you have his twin brother imagine if he had been your only child and you loose him!!!! So God help those who lost their only child 🙏🏻

You have such interesting videos. So easy to follow along with what you are saying; you do not talk too fast either. Your hair looks nice. Your videos are like a vacation to me. Thank you for your time putting these videos together for us.

My cousins were fishing with my great uncle (their grandpa) on what they thought was an abandoned tresle. My great uncle said he hadn't seen a train come through there in years. Well that day one did. The boys ran the younger one jumped amd landed on the creek bank, the older one Glenn was too afraid and was hit and died that day. Shannon was hurt pretty bad, but recovered. We were all 10, 11, 12 some where in that age group. I was terrified of trains for a very long time. RIP to all these little angels

Such a sad story. The headstone sounds like Alexis’s brothers, Richard and Alexander, also passed as children. I wonder what happened to them.
