Very informative, I wish more people knew the difference!

Yes! Absolutely. I started out in dietetics and switched to Human Nutrition and Food Science because I wanted to focus on the research and holistic nutrition vs government based nutrition practices. I am very clear and up front with clients, educating them about the difference between RD and nutritionist and then share my brief resume, where I focused my research, etc. I believe it's critical to respect the RD and what it stands for. So wish more RDs had the research background and had required training in holistic nutrition and healing of the body, disease reversal through nutrition, etc.

Hi Ma'am Kim! I am Brandon from the Philippines. I just want to share the difference here. In my country, both titles are protected since once we pass the board examination, we are called Registered Nutritionist-Dietitians. So basically here, when you are referring to a Nutritionist, you are most prolly referring to a Dietitian (Though some are now referring to themselves as Nutritionist even without a license, citing the American legal basis). Dietetics here in the PH was patterned to the US since it was founded after the American colonization but things changed. Here, the internship is already included in your 4 year BS ND curriculum (its a semester long with a total of 600 hours.) After finishing the degree, you are now eligible to take the exam. How I wish things would revert back to what was the curriculum before, just like in the US. But now I heard that the our Board is now on the process of revising it again. In the plan, RND's would be required to undergo residency in various specialties such as Pediatric Nutrition, Diabates Nutrition, Renal, Metabolic Disorders and etc. So these specialties would be regulated through an exam and these would now be required if you're going to work as a dietitian in a specialized hospital or clinic.

Also, we are the only country with a reciprocity agreement with the US. Our licenses are legally equal to an RD but since we lack the internship hours, if a Filipino would plan to be an RD there, he/she would be required for an additional internship and then pass the RD exam. 😊

Jake I am so happy you wrote this. I remember I asked a Philippina some time ago if there are dietitians in the Philippines and she said "No", nurses are basically the dietitian/nutritionist. Thanks for the clarification!!
@jakebrandonm.andalrnd4867 жыл бұрын
Really? Well technically before, prior to 1970's nurses take the place of ND's before the Dietetics Law was passed. Maybe she migrated to your place prior to the said law. Thanks for creating videos everytime! I am a huge fan. You empower us nutrition majors and future dietitians!

I'll be going to a dietician tommorrow. I found out last week that I was diabetic and I need to learn to learn how to eat all over again. I am thinking about going back to a trade school for a culinary nutritional assistant. I want to learn how to eat right and start a some type of meal prepping business. Great video. I appreciate the info.

I'm studying Dietetics and All my friends keep saying I'm studying nutrition which is ...not the same. Also in the UK I think that a Degree is enough to get qualified as an RD. Not necessarily needing to complete a PhD

Thank you so much for this video! I have one quick question (not sure if you discussed this in a video), is it hard to find a job in the dietetics field?? (obviously after passing all courses and tests)
@KimRoseDietitian7 жыл бұрын
Hi Gabriela. In my opinion it depends where you live. If you live in a big city the competition is real. For smaller rural areas,, not so much. Check out my video "HIRE ME" for more information.

What career opportunities are there for nutritionists without the RD title?
@KimRoseDietitian7 жыл бұрын
From personal experience one nutritionist I met years ago had his own practice where he would consult patients in his office. He was well known in the area so he was doing pretty well.

hi.. Can RD help me to resolve my imbalance hormones?, Im having hard time loosing weight and gaining muscle 😭 RD are not so common here in Philippines.
@singletonfamilyfl2 жыл бұрын
RDs are not trained in this. Seek holistic physicians or holistic nutritionists that have the training in hormone balance through food.

I’m sorry but legal wise you might be right but knowledge wise I’m a master online nutritionist and know a lot more then dietitians and has /had to help many people after having had visited a dietitian
