3 Man Closeouts (Voiceover)

This is an activity adopted from Alex Sarama that creates an environment where offensive players must make reads and decisions based on the defense.
The drill starts with one offensive player and two defensive players with two basketballs. The offensive player must catch outside the three point line with the first defender closing out differently (short/long) each time.
The offensive player reads the first defender and there is a long closeout, the read is to get to the basket. The second defender must then give the offensive player a read by either placing the ball above their head or below their hips.
Scoring: 1 point for each made basket, but can change based what the coach may want to emphasize. Player with the most amount of made baskets at the end of the drill wins.
Time: 30 seconds - 1 minute rounds.

No there is no constraint on when to drive. We want our players to read each of the closeouts. We teach players to be ready on the catch and to read the distance of the defender on the closeouts. Short closeouts we encourage our players to shoot, long closeouts we encourage them to drive it, or with other offensive players, to move it on the pass. In this drill we ask the defenders to close out short or long so the offensive player has a pretty clear read to make. A good example of a short closeout is at 2:00.
