Aw man. I really liked the name Penumbra Tower (though, even when talking with my friends I could never stop myself from mentioning how we don't really know _why_ it's called that). To your credit, I can see your reasoning as to why you would switch it up. Names can be deceptively important for a video game. Admittedly, I'm not really fond of Dungeon Croaker, but maybe that's because it hasn't had time to settle in and take root in my brain yet. Great to see that your back, and the progress is looking great so far. Seems that you've locked down your dev tools and they're working well for you. Being able to expedite the process of plugging in new content is going to lead to some exciting developments down the line 👀

Ive got an idea for the movement on controller. Normally, the orthogonal direction are highlighted, and you can use the dpad to select said directions. Pressing a button, for example the west button, changes the options to diagonal, and the dpad is rebound to those directions. It would help to label them. Or if you want to avoid changing the directions with a button, map the dpad to orthogonal movements, and the action buttons to diagonal movements. I’d understand if this is complicated tho, maybe add it as a setting in the menu

I feel like the controller system would be better if it worked by having the left joystick move the focus around the surrounding 8 blocks, and then have right south be to confirm. then have the right joystick control it outside the surrounding 8 blocks and user the triggers or d-pad to activate anything else (or just use right south again but that feels wierd to use a button on the same side as a joystick you’re moving)

Two points of feedback on the demo: - I prefer to play with mouse only if possible. I found it somewhat slow and inconvenient to use weapons, as the UI elements are at the edge of the screen instead of where I normally have the mouse cursor and where I want to click to use the weapon. - I often forgot to use my spirit points. I would like a visual cue when I have enough spirit to use a weapon, e.g. have the weapon UI boxes get a highlighted border.

Yeah, I think the name change is for the best. Search Engine Optimization is a crucial thing, one of the reasons I don't post to often on my channel is because my username is too close to Omega and would get corrected by most searches.

I played the game, it's very cool but for me it missed some littles things : - I find the movement speed quite slow, almost one 1 sec or more to wait each time, my brain work much faster, I always have the impression to wait a long time before making my next move. - If I don't have any more enemies (or maybe not), I'ld like to be able to directly go to the exit, if I click on the exit or the chest and my Player go towards it each move, instead of do it my self a lot of time. - The UX of the UI can be better I think, I didn't see directly the enemy info, it out of my focus range, the eye need to almost exit the game to have access to it. For a better UX, the info I need, must be close enough to not escape my eyes from the game (the distance to info ux rule). Same thing for the other UI - When I touch the "escape key" my timer continue to run. It's more logic to stop it If I don't play the game. - I find the sound repetitive and it could be have more variety for the background music and effects

Hey, i've got a fun idea. I see that there are a lot of status effects and things happening on screen when hitting. I don t know how the damage is going to be distributed, but for example if you suddenly deal a ton of damage at the same time it would be nice to see the fact that it was a powerfull attack by making some sort of animation with the damage numbers, like hitting a jackpot for example, i hope you got the gist. i am sure you could make something very pleasing that maybe would add to the excitement of the player.

I feel like if penumbra is a problem because there are too many games with that word in their title that it's hard for you to differentiate. Then dungeon is actually a lot worse in that regard. There are so many games with the word dungeon in their title. And while I agree that Penumbra Tower had very little to do with the game itself, it was still a far more interesting and unique name than Dungeon Croaker. Not trying to be harsh here, just being honest about what I think. You've swapped one problem for a different problem, the first was that the title wasn't relevant to the gameplay (although that could easily be fixed with narrative, since honestly the title should reflect the narrative or vibe first and the gameplay second, Resident Evil doesn't imply anything about the gameplay for example, neither does Super Mario Bros or Crash Bandicoot or System Shock or Penumbra (lol)), but now the problem is that it's too generic sounding. Honestly the best title would be something that is unique enough that it would stand out in searches, says something about the story or just the vibes of the game if there isn't any narrative or story or it's just sparse, and if possible also say something about what playing the game is like. There are titles like Contra or Doom which do all of that. But that's not an easy thing to come up with. For the diagonal movement issue, have you considered having a button (perhaps a shoulder button) act as a modifier that locks in diagonal movement and another button that locks in cardinal movement? I also don't know if you're supporting the dpad, but the precision of the dpad would work nicely here too, especially with the modifier concept. I like the idea of using the right stick as like a pseudo cursor a lot though, it would remove ambiguity from movement and potential death as a result, but being able to precisely make movements using either the analogue stick or the dpad as well would speed gameplay up by a fair amount. Just some ideas for you to potentially think about. I like what you've done with this update. Some cool additions that really add something to the gameplay. You've made some very strong progress here.

Everything is great about the demo, but I do have a few problems. The boss has too much HP. Bring back the old bomb system, it encouraged so much deck variety. The new name sucks so much. It just sounds so bad and generic.
