As always great stuff. I also believe that the ergonomics of painting is really important. In other words, where things are located to allow you to access your tools/supplies in a way to not slow down the process but to enhance the overall workflow.

This is huge, I love painting but have never had a designated area to paint or store my supplies. I was always frustrated with myself about why I don't practice more often. Recently I bought a desk on FB marketplace specifically for painting and made myself a little art corner in our guestroom and it has made me so excited to paint. It makes all the difference in the world that I have a specific space, I can leave paints and stuff out because we don't need the table for anything else so it allows me to just pick up right where I left off. This one is very important I think but we had never had a guest room before so I understand if you don't have a room or space where to put this 😑 I get it man, so one option is to get some sort of box or caddy that's easy to move around and a foldable tray table. I think of it like we think of RVs and tiny homes 😊 RV/tiny art studio! 🛻

I use the other end of my brush to scrape highlights. Some artists will even sharpen the end to get a finer line.

The mister is SO important. I carry around a tiny one for my plein air work and cannot overstate how much life it brings into my little travel palette.

So true!

A natural sponge is very soft and I prefer it for that reason over using a hake; less disturbance of the paper's surface fibers. Although, a hake or large mop does get the job one if one is not too aggressive. Yes on the mister. Zbukvic says the water mist is like oxygen for your painting! It gives the painting life. So at times spraying or misting the painting is also needed.

Hi! I have started using a cheap pipette to wet the paints in the palette box instead of spraying. Then I don't get water where I don't want it and I can easily control the amount of water. It could fit in well on your very beautiful toolbox.

Thanks for the video and advice Matt. Tell US more about watercolor tubes against dry cubes. Thank you.
@learntopaintwatercolor2 жыл бұрын
Hi Armando, I prefer tubes because I can get richer values with fresh paint. But I suggest using whatever you’re most comfortable with.

I discovered I like using inktense white instead of gouache. When white deluted gouache dries it becomes lighter and more transparent but my inktense grows whiter and more opaque.
@learntopaintwatercolor2 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I'll have to try that.

Really learned a lot today. I'm wondering - would you use the spray bottle on dry paint pans (not from tubes)? I have a little Winsor Newton travel palette that I love, but it takes a bit of patience to mix up colours.
@learntopaintwatercolor2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I would spray the paint and let it sit for a few minutes.
@lindas.martin28062 жыл бұрын
You can also use an eye dropper, and put as many drops of water as you think necessary to wet the paint, wait a few minutes, then test the paint on a small piece of watercolor paper to see if it is the value you want, before using it on your painting.

5:07 Ten minutes to soak in! Important in activating (reviving?) paint with your spray bottle, which I assume contains water.

Can you soak your paper instead of just sponging in a dry hot climate

Yes, you could try that. It would take quite a while to dry though.
