@@b.e.r.nnetwork8251 likewise, the colours are not that relevant to me when the shapes are completely different. But I can see from a tutorial standpoint, visually why they'd be relevant. They can almost blend into one another from the top down view on this keyboard. Back to black and white keys 🥲

So the chords in the 2-5-1 progressions do not have to be in the key of D necessarily?
@stefanguy
@stefanguy Жыл бұрын
Nope, the 2 and the 5 are in the key of the 1. So say I’m in the key of C. And I want to do a 2-5-1 to get to F, F being the 1 - I’d play the 2 from the key of Fmajor (Gm) and the 5 from Fmajor (C) and land on the 1 (F)… hope that makes sense - check out this video i made on it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZoWXpJWoqauHg80

hello, i've been dabbling with music for a long time but this side is still a mystery to me "My Boo - Key: F# minor VI - V - i - vii - iii" could anyone help explain what this the roman numerals represent?
@stefanguy
@stefanguy Жыл бұрын
So each major or minor key has 7 notes (or scale degrees, 1-7). We can number these notes 1-7 and subsequently each chord derived from that note. Now each chord in the key can be represented by a number. We do this so playing and learning chord progressions are not key dependent. How to read the roman numbers - Uppercase letters = a major chord, i.e C Major, lowercase letters = minor chord, i.e C Minor. So a ii - V - I in the key of Cmajor would be Dm - Gmaj - Cmaj. In the key of A major that same progressions would he Bm - Emaj - Amaj Hope this makes sense. They are other symbols to denote things like diminished and augmented chords but those are the basics.

Chord progressions are not copyrightable.
@stefanguy
@stefanguy Жыл бұрын
Yep agreed, but there’s still musically uneducated people in the law system. There’s been some very questionable lawsuits in recent history. My worry is, if a producer uses the same chord progression with the exact same rhythm, and the same inversions, this can easily be construed as the same melody (where the top notes of each chord are exactly the same with the exact same rhythm). Obviously this is not the melody per se but can perceived as it, and melodies are copyrightable. But I agree with you nonetheless.
