Shorts practically killed my channel when I started uploading them. No more shorts and channel slowly started to recover.

I love the way Ricky looks at the analytics. I use to work in medical research and he has the same way of looking at the data that I do. It's reassuring to have a seasoned pro have the same opinion 😊😊

I almost never like shorts, because there are very few things that KZbinrs present well in less than a minute. Folks who just cut long content down are missing the mark.

SHORTS is just an instrument. Those who know how to use it always get profit. Without experience, you could harm your channel by SHORTS. But the same with long-form content too. You did wrong long videos - got the wrong audience - your channel go down

At the beginning I used shorts to throw spaghetti at the wall. Now I use it as a teaser to advertise what my channel does and what I have to offer. Because I'm still new and still small I get higher exposure that way and it's currently helping, especially when I use the related tab to tease a new video

Very interesting analysis of Shorts. I used to post a lot more of them back when I was confident they would pull in a lot of views, but it seems like something changed beginning around June of 2023, they were suddenly getting a lot less, and I heard this same experience from multiple creators. I do recommend them for subscriber growth, but as you mentioned the content of your Shorts should be directly related to your long-form content, otherwise those new subscribers might not stick around. Anyway, that's just my two cents. Thanks for this video, very informative!👍

WHAT I have found is that if i upload both shorts and longform at the same time, whichever one takes off in the first couple of days is usually at the expense of others. the best way is to post the short during the time with lesser views because they tend to pop about 8 hours after posting, then post the long form during your peak time Additionally most of my shorts come from south east asia as well as india and russia, most of my videos are from the USA and UK, livestreams are vastly different in mostly from USA.

Awesome👍 I love it, here is why. I for one have been consistantly uploading every Sunday at 7:00 AM for two years now alternating short and long form every other week. My numbers show that my viewers watch both long and short equaly. However my shorts do seem to get put in front of more viewers. It does help tons on my subscriber base as i believe people are subscribing from shorts in the intentions of coming back to watch the long content. Keep teaching i will keep learning! Thanks guys✌ Marc

I really agree with what you said in the video. Shorts might hurt a channel depending on the niche as well. For education niche like your channel, I prefer to watch long form videos and would skip the Shorts because I would get more value out of your long form content than Shorts. While there are many channels affected by Shorts, many had grown because of Shorts, like growing to few hundreds and even a million subscribers. I watch both long form and Shorts. Shorts mainly is to unwind and I've noticed a number of channels say dog skits, parodies grow to hundreds of thousands because viewer found them thru Shorts and wanted to watch their long form videos. One comedian who I first discover in Shorts doing Dr Jordan Peterson impersonation which were all so funny....I would go and watch his long form content which each gets tonnes of views. So I do not agree that Shorts hurt all channels just some. My channel long form content watch hours did go down after I posted Shorts due to well, I never stick to a niche and I don't speak that well. Now, I just make Shorts for fun and yes, totally understand what Ricky meant... I also chop down my shorts....most of them are about 59 sec long. And the views are dependant on how interesting to the viewer finds the video and not the length. Thank you and btw, I have been following Income School for loonng looong time. Learned a lot of blogging tips from the channel so Ricky is a very familiar face to me. Keep up the good work 👍👍

I use shorts as standalone things that don't require a whole video. I find using shorts to try and get people to watch long form stuff makes me not like the channel as a viewer so i don't do it. But when people's shorts are just seperate things from long form, things that are relevant to their channel but don't need a full 10 minute or more video to get across, then i am more likely to like their channel. If someone watches all your longform content what are they getting from shorts that lead them to a video they've already seen? And why would somone click over to your longform video if the short already pissed them off? Basically as a viewer I'd respond best to it being it's own thing so as a creator that's what i use them for.

according to the logic here, the best opportunities in a counter cyclical sense are 23 and 49 second long shorts (lowest numbers so perhaps the best opportunity to grab a shorts niche)
@ChannelMakers
@ChannelMakers 5 ай бұрын
According to the logic here, the duration by itself doesn’t matter at all. The duration should be whatever will best keep people engaged in the whole video.

12 second long ones get 150% CTR versus longer ones which have 50% CTR (that means that it does get pushed more)
@ChannelMakers
@ChannelMakers 5 ай бұрын
How do you figure? They get the same views per video. You can’t calculate CTR here because the impressions data isn’t available.
@gamingguruoz
@gamingguruoz 5 ай бұрын
i find my shorter shorts get more views and a view time sorry not CTR over 100% sometimes 200%, anything in the longer ones under 90% dont get pushed as hard, quite often people will loop their shorts and those watching 10-15 second ones will go over. Thats what i meant

Causation's not correlation Right now you're basically associating that the amount of seconds peaks with the views whereas it's the content something was really amazing in the ones that had the higher views That's it

Good video, thanks! Just the survey did not convince me. Your community is NOT representative of YT viewers. This 91 to 9 % difference is simply not true for YT as a whole. Thus your conclusion on this point might (!) be invalid too. Got to be careful with statistics ;-)
@ChannelMakers

The survey is evidence, not definitive proof. That said, I don’t believe for one second that shorts viewers and long-form viewers are mostly different people.

YT recommends shorts on your end screen…shorts don’t pay anything either! Slowly moving everything to Rumble
@denalidtx

Most content doesn't seem to do well over there. I've been cross-posting to Rumble for nearly a year now, and I have almost zero views on Rumble, compared to tens of thousands on YT. Other creators I know report similar numbers for different content.

@@denalidtx right! Seems YT is either dying or not as many people viewing as much as they used to…I figure branching out can’t hurt

@@andrewg.2165 I think it's more likely that there are just way more creators now. It's really hard to get views because it's really hard to stand out. We're competing with folks that have been doing the same type of content for over a decade now. Rumble is newer, but some of the markets just aren't there yet. I'm hoping that if people ever start watching over there I'll have a lot of evergreen content already. 😅

Nope. DON'T DO SHORTS Shorts are good: - for learning if you are not good enough to make an interesting 3min video you can still edit 15sec of flashy short -instant gratification. If your videos making 100views mediocre short will make thousands therefore bump your ego. - only real reason to post shorts is repurposing your tiktoks😁 Shorts are stupid thing to work on. You are wasting your time. Do 2-3 min video. Work on thumbnails. Anything but shorts. You'll regret time spent on this activity
