I will say this, I want it to leave this video several times because you start showing Lord of the rings footage or you start saying this or this or this or this about the lady who's putting her desk on the ground and honestly at regret staying to the end because I got absolutely nothing out of this except for try to figure out how to relate some side stories in there I mean you could have just said that then made this a 10-second video. Only reason I stayed till the end is the video was short and well it didn't end up really being worth it as it doesn't really show you how to work anything into your video and do it the right way just kind of says these people are doing this and you can figure out how to do it too I mean that's really not super helpful, One problem with channels like this is a lot of them tell you what other people are doing but if you're not a super creative person they don't really tell you how to execute, for somebody like me that's not super creative I would Hope to get some detailed instructions on how to make something like this work but all I got is this is what they did you should do it too. But it doesn't give me any Noah John the right way to do this or anything, I don't know for me videos like this are almost never helpful, these KZbin help channels it's kind of the same thing over and over and over and over This channel does this and you should do it too, that channel does that and you should do it too but doesn't really explain it. It's like making a video that says I'm going to teach you how to rebuild a car's engine and you just say this guy built it this way and you should do it like he did and that guy built it that way and you should do it like he did but that doesn't teach me how to rebuild the engine at all

I get the feeling that the test & compare reaches a conclusion way to quickly, especially considering that it uses time share as the deciding factor. I'm a pretty small channel and the content I create really isn't for everyone, when I release a video and check the watch time of it, it's always pretty obvious that there's a few people, probably mostly old time viewers who know what to expect, that watch the full video, while a lot of the other viewers give up very quickly. Honestly, the audience retention graphs on most of my videos are catastrophically bad. I was really surprised to see that one of my recent videos reached a conclusive result after just 170-ish views. That was a 62 minute long video, and according to the audience retention graph, after 22 minutes only 15% were watching and by the end only 9% were left, so less than 17 of those 170 people watched the full length of the video while most gave up A LOT earlier. This means that the deciding factor probably wasn't related to how good the thumbnail was, it was which of the thumbnails got presented to the most those, less than 17 people, that watched the full duration of the video. A thumbnail could have abysmally bad CTR, but as long as that thumbnail is presented to the largest share of "old time fans" of my channel that'll watch the entire video, it's almost certain to get the best time share %.

I am convinced now. Ran test and compare. A was a tn I wasn't too happy with and thought B was stronger. Results were 83% for A but CTR was .6. Not 6 but .6. I finally gave up and deleted A and went with B. As soon as I did that my CTR went way up, watch time went up. It went from my worst performing video ever to average. YT had to be showing the weak tn A disproportionately high rather than an even split.

I am curious, if anyone knows, Is it OK to upload a long form and a short at the same time since they use different algorithms, or would one throw off the other resulting is less views? If that makes sense.

I don't know for sure, perhaps no one does. But I think it would be a bit risky unless the two are very related. We have seen new videos published a few days or even a week later "cannibalize" current videos that were still getting impressions.

Hi Channel Makers, I'd appreciate it if you did not use the titles of my videos as examples of marketing that are purely for the sake of creating curiosity. When I say on the video you are referring to "The most detailed Starship Enterprise model you will EVER see", I didn't just write that randomly to create curiosity and attract viewers. I know without doubt that no-one else on the planet has built or is building the entire Starship Enterprise in any scale, let alone massive 1:25 scale.

Hey! Sorry if the comment I made came off as negative. That wasn’t the intent of the comment. Your title was a good example of good marketing for your video. I didn’t mean to insinuate that you were tricking people into clicking. I was saying that you made a very bold claim in your title. (Your claim may be right) but it is also technically unable to be proven. It’s a perfectly acceptable claim to make and it sounds like you know the topic very well, and that’s great. Again my apologies for coming off the wrong way.

By extension regarding the Tolkien thing, look at the intro to The Fellowship of the Ring movie. It's somebody talking and a bit of music. And somehow you get goosebumps just from that. So the point like you make is that: make it interesting and you won't even notice.

Great question! A lot of times on our channel when we say "Viral videos" we are talking about a video that does better than the average videos on the channel. So in our case, even though our channel topic is more niche and we aren't getting Mr. Beast level views, we find that our videos perform much better when we apply these principles. And we've done a bunch of research and have seen them applied in nearly every standout (viral) video we watch! :) Also, since a lot of people like the idea of having one of their videos go "viral", using that terminology in our titles and thumbnails make the videos more appealing. It's marketing! It's like on the @mrtrek2117 channel. He has a video titled, "The Most Detailed Starship Enterprise Model You Will EVER See!" It's a great title because it makes people curious, but it's not really a true or proven statement. There are probably viewers out there who have seen more detailed models that might not be on the internet, or maybe there's another KZbinr that has a video showcasing an even more detailed model that nobody has seen. In marketing it's all about selling the idea, and viewers want to be sold to. Statements that are exaggerated often times aren't questioned because they pique viewer interest and people know they are being sold something. It's all about finding the right balance. Thanks again for the question!

I totally get and agree with their decision not to just turn this into a CTR optimization tool that would almost certainly trash up the platform. But it seems the relationship to watch time is approximately nonexistent. It seems right now like someone who doesn't click on the video simply isn't part of the stats... If they want this to work without giving people access to all the stats (so they can just optimize CTR) they will have to build an algorithm that incorporates more metrics. (Maybe they already have without saying it?) CTR modulated by watch time would make a lot of sense, for example-downweight a view under 20 seconds to be the same as a non-click, etc. There aught to be enough knobs to tune there for this to function perfectly well.

You ran these tests long ago with a pre-release version of the feature. If you rerun these tests with the current version of the feature, you’ll find that KZbin defaults to the old thumbnail when there isn’t enough data to give statistically significant results. They also tell you clearly when a result is inconclusive. The current feature will not show any data at all unless there are enough impressions. This video is misleading people and You ought to delete it as it brings the credibility of your entire channel into question.
@ChannelMakers
@ChannelMakers 8 күн бұрын
Except that we re-ran the test on several channels since the tool was publicly released and got the same results. It keeps picking a statistically significant winner even when all of the thumbnails are identical. So maybe you should delete your misleading comment? 🤷🏻‍♂️

This is far worse than I initially feared. I share new video releases with my Patrons via email, and each email contains the same thumbnail. Therefore, these numbers must be incorrect. Additionally, how does a thumbnail determine how long I will watch a video? They need to establish a coefficient with the CTR for each thumbnail somehow (I'm not a math expert).
@Walk4r
@Walk4r 8 күн бұрын
Im not gonna use it frankly - thumbnail is only 50%, if we could run 3 titles, maybe. But you will potentially end up spending a ton of time making 3 thumbnails and start sharing your audience potentially less thought-out and processed ones. I take 6 hours to make mine, it will probably destory me if i have to make 3.

REALLY interesting video! Thanks so much for digging in here! I've used it in my last two long form videos (was really excited with it) and both videos have been my worst performing videos in years. The CTRs were anywhere between 1% and 1.9% where, consistently my average across the channel is between 7%-10% CTR. Sure, that may be an audience thing for one reason or another, but I found that the videos were not being served up to my audience who had subscribed, they seem to take forever to get even half the impressions I usually would get in the first hour and even when I searched for the exact title AND my channel name, it didn't show up either. While I appreciate it's audience and NOT algortihm, I just find it highly coincidental that my 2 worst performing videos in years just happened to be using this feature. I've spoke to some bigger creators who also had similar results. Moving forward for now, I'll do what I always did, if the thumbnail isn't performing I'll swap it out manually.
@ChannelMakers
@ChannelMakers 8 күн бұрын
That's really concerning. It does sound like there's more going on than your audience just not liking the new videos. It's always risky to test out new features. I'm going to go back through all of our videos in the past 7 months and see if I can find any correlation in CTR and using the tester

KZbin often shows it as the top comment when you're looking at it from YOUR account but not from others. Try logging in from another account, or not signed in from an incognito browser sometime. It's most likely buried lower in the comments unless it has a ton of likes or responses to it. Good question though! Idk why they do things like that.
