On my channel, that is not true. People coming from shorts, simply don't watch the long form videos. The long form video audience typically don't watch shorts. Views from shorts pay almost nothing, and since people coming from shorts, don't watch regular videos. So there is no real benefit to grow the channel that way. That bridge you mention, as of now, does not exist. Also, once a regular viewer skip a short, youtube take that as bad sign, and the overall channel reach will suffer over time. Shorts can hurt channels, it hurts mine at least.

Some people only watch Shorts, some only watch long-form, some watch both, some watch different types of videos on both. So, it's possible Shorts will grow your long-form, it's also possible Shorts will give you access to a whole new audience that would never watch your long-form. And no, if someone skips a Short, KZbin doesn't take that as a "bad sign". That would be bad for everyone

I'm not so sure the same algorithm applies to shorts. As "The Truth" said, KZbin is trying to compete with Tik Tok and as Renee implied but didn't say because he's not allowed to tell us the truth, that would hurt KZbin's ability to compete with Tik Tok. Though as I've already told him before, KZbin can't compete with Tik Tok because it's simply not trendy enough, they shaved those edges off around 2009 with the web 2 point 0 trend and it kept getting more cold and sterile, like when they added the mandatory mobile mode to desktop browsing. Course KZbin denies subscriber burn even exists at all even though we all already know it does so it's hard to say for certain.

If already successful in long form this may be true if you don’t do too many shorts. From my experience there isn’t much crossover because I built my channels off shorts first. Look in analytics then audience and it shows what % of your audience watch both. If I have 70% of my audience built from shorts then 70% will skip past my long form suggested videos thus killing my CTR on long form, thus killing its reach. But if you have 70% watch long form then having some not a lot of shorts is probably ok. Most of the giant channels I found that are heavy in shorts will try to make a couple longs, get poor results and quit longform. The answer is separate them or have a higher ratio of longs. IMO

I believe this is true. I've had very good success posting both Shorts and long form content on the same channel, and the Shorts definitely seem to encourage subscriptions and views on my longer videos. The key is to not overdo it by posting so many shorts that it annoys or alienates the people who came to your channel to watch the longer videos.

It really depends on your content. When I first started making KZbin shorts, it hurt my average view duration terribly (from 2-3 minutes to under 1). Even though it helped get subs and views. On the other hand, I've seen some other channels (long form) absolutely blow up when they used shorts. Especially podcast channels, but also entertainment channels like dude perfect and Zach King (these two were already huge, with over 10M subs). What I've learnt is, I need to use clips from my longer videos directly rather than create new shorts. This has been helping, and im very grateful for the linking feature.

My shorts were doing at least 1000 or more each time. Now the same style of shorts posting at the same time are struggling to get even 100 sometimes. The fact that they’re so inconsistent, even when you’re posting content that has worked well before at the same time it has works before.

youtube should be honest if video shorts are hurting. because shorts subscribers wont watch long videos or other shorts videos. so it will damage the CTR. KZbin continues to influence creators to make shorts for fear of the threat of TikTok

When we say "most" we mean just that - some will have even better results, some may have very different results. That's very much being honest. But our systems are smart enough to understand who watches Shorts, who watches long-form, and who watches both, so there's no reason to worry about CTR from that point of view

Is anyone at KZbin looking into the iOS app’s “Create a Short” feature? Volume controls for the uploaded video footage and added audio are totally missing, and even when I upload video with audio, it gets muted. Until this is fixed, no more Shorts for the channels I manage and many others. I’m not the only one this is affecting.

Great validation! I confess I am getting sick and tired of people demonizing multiple formats on the same channel… it would make no sense to limit growth based on what type of content a creator has decided to upload!

I believe that this transition is a little awkward for us long form creators, but what you are saying is true and YT is adjusting and tweaking and we are all growing into this new area. I believe ultimately it's a good beneficial change to have both, even if you don't see it at first. For me personally, it's refreshing and fun to create and make shorts, and hoping the income is better soon

Maybe their long-form videos aren't good, and people prefer short videos. I'm subbed to someone who primarily makes shorts, but I rarely watch her longer videos because she makes them like she makes shorts; she doesn't put much effort into them. That's just my experience with one channel that primarily uploads shorts.

Plus, YT pushes Shorts more these days. I have a feeling this won't last much longer. I upload both short and long videos on the same channel. Shorts help my channel grow faster than my regular videos. Who knows how long this will last?

Even I don't believe this. Because, I had a short channel and I used to post 6+ shorts daily. I got a lot of views with those shorts, but whenever I have started posting long videos, it didn't work. After deleting all the short videos, my long videos got views.

Dont think thats true. In my top 30 videos show in analytics only 1 or 2 will be Vod.. rest all will be shorts. Thats happening since a year now. I hit 1k subscribers fast but getting 4k watch hours was a big challenge.

The one thing I don't like is that you can't choose to "not" post short videos to subscriber feed in mobile.. like you can do in desktop. I typically only watch longform content, and all the shorts that show up in my subscription feed are annoying. Just so that I don't "annoy" my existing subscribers.. i'm publishing my shorts on desktop, instead of mobile.

Shorts have not helped my channel, people don't watch the long. The opposite is current, my watch time hasn't moved even thought I've had 500 more subscribers. So I disagree

Shorts are a failed concept. They're worthless in almost every way. They don't pay. Their watch time doesn't count towards your 4000 hours. For monetisation a requirement of 10 million views in 90 days is absolutely ludicrous. They attract the wrong audience to your channel. They wreck your watch time on long form content. They're pretty horrible.

Posting shorts on my channel has actually helped my channel. And using the remix button to make shorts of my longer videos has helped my longer videos. Especially my video about The Shining movie.

Is there a video update regarding KZbin community guideline updates? Recently, I am hearing more and more malicious behavior of folks making claims in reporting back into KZbin but these folks are bogus entities. Also, will KZbin be supporting SRT for live streaming soon? Not SRT for captions, SRT on the transport side.

TikTok has treated me so much better sadly. I’ve been using KZbin for 13 years and I posted my old videos on there and now I’m doing so much better. Such an easy fix without years of stress :D I’d love to stay on here and have been super positive about KZbin. Defending them at every corner. I’d bash TikTok everytime. You just can’t beat a system that actually cares about your growth.

The KZbin audience is so varied in so many ways that this statement of channel content performance is virtually irrelevant in my view. Ask “The Quartering” how is channel is doing as a result of Shorts. Likewise, a certain channel that I assist with content creation saw a very clear correlation result when Shorts were being published on the same channel as long form content, and it wasn’t a good one. As a result, we stopped doing Shorts on the main channel entirely. Some creators may be on KZbin just for fun, but most of those I follow who do it for an income stream seem to find little direct monetary benefit from Shorts specifically. We are still experimenting with Shorts, but it is not on the main channel with long form content. The audience demographic of that channel simply is not the target audience for Shorts, and our analytics clearly show that.
