The fact that they adapt and survive so well in our urban jungles when we've destroyed so many other animal habitats for smaller things is nothing to laugh at either. These birds are fighters.

Also fun fact about Pigeons... They have 5 cones in their eyes (humans have 3) which means they can see way more colours than we can, and we have no idea what these colours are. This ability also makes them able to recognise faces (even human ones) really easily. They can distinguish paintings, their own reflections (really rare in the animal world) and also have apparently a taste for art (being able to pick what they like more) lol.

Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the evil in this world, God is full of justice, mercy and love. Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die" - if we break one in thought/word/deed it's as if we're guilty of all of them. Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans . The law shows us that 1. We will die in Hell if we fail to follow it and 2. We cannot save ourselves BUT, 3. God's perfect, immovable law points us to Christ, who followed and fulfilled the law in thought, word and deed perfectly in our place. He did what we couldn't and did it on our behalf. He was then sentenced to death on a cross, and took our personal punishment for our sin, paying our penalty (like paying our fine) completely FOR us, and has given us freedom. If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. It's not about following the law - perfectly, as it's impossible - it's about letting Christ in to guide and teach you and obeying Him through His power (not ourselves as it's impossible without depending on His power and instruction). He is our substitute in His life, death and resurrection. He essentially rewrote history in our place so that, if you believe in Him, it will be as if you had never sinned if you accept Christ's death as our own in our place. He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it. He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. Hes giving EVERYONE a chance, He wants everyone to take the free gift of salvation from Hell. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through Him. So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to follow His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and ask Him to help us in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the ultimate victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, pray for Jesus to come in and He will do what we can't. Give us The Holy Spirit who will guide us in the right way. NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER If you have any questions let me know X

Pigeons ARE Very Rad! Their an awesome creature! Out of absolutely nowhere, I had 2(on separate occasions) come into my life! The first one on my birthday this year! Up until I met these birds I had no idea, not a clue, as to just how incredible they really are! I always have a great respect for any animals (not too fond of snakes but they're special too in their own ways i suppose), yet still my pigeons never fail to amaze me as I learn more and more! Their highly emotional and are very easy to bond with! They have these amazing eyes that they almost seem to speak to you with! No surprise how far a pigeon would go (as in the war hero's), to help the one(s) they love! I Love it!

It always makes me sad when people complain about pigeons living in cities- guess why? We domesticated and bred them for a good thousand years to do exactly that. People kept pigeons as homing pigeons, for eggs, and for meat, as they were easier to keep than chicken or ducks. It's only in the last 50 years that we don't need them anymore and all of a sudden they are vermin to us.

you are ABSOLUTELY correct HCSunny . We humans are so selfish that now we call them flying rats & nuisance animal. I live in India mumbai, the myth that one can get asthma and bronchitis and the urine can cause structural damage is thrown on my face by our apartment manager. We rescue pigeons that have hair tangled. Worse some have lost their foot. When hair gets tangled in babies there no sufficient blood flow and with time it gets more tightened to kill the claw. We untangled hair and strings of pigeons. They're cute and funny They fly to our balcony exactly when we're having lunch They can sense when we're having lunch They know our kids and fly close to us. But we had to stop feeding them every morning as fine was threatened on us.

Weird, I always thought pigeons bop their heads to perceive depth. Because birds have eyes on the side of the head the vision doesn't overlap as much as with mammals, and bopping your head has the effect of letting objects that are closer to you appear moving faster towards you than far away objects. You can test it by holding out a finger while focusing on something far away and bopping your head, your finger seems to come at you much faster.

I learned a lot about it over the years just out of pure fascination and fun of it. His dad still does it to this day, has since won the national championship several times, and countless other events. He is also a show pigeon judge. Yes that's a thing to. And has several show winning birds for that type of event. I fully understand why Mike Tyson is in love with the sport. It's a different kind of relaxation working with the birds. One can't fly well enough, the other has some serious head/neck issues and I have to tube feed him everyday. I really do love the birds, they're very pretty with their neck colors and they'll even watch us. I just wish people had more respect for the birds. They really are harmless...

Cher Ami did not recover and die years later. She was gravely wounded, and despite surgery and heroic efforts, she died just 8 months later (June, 1919). I hope this is not an indication of the care with which you research your subjects.

You realize birds die in a couple years, right? That is like saying: War Hero Bob was shot in the pinky at age 20. Unfortunately, he did not recover and died in a hospital 80 years later.

Dan Gould Pigeons and doves can live well over 20 years. Some bird species (many of the larger parrots, for instance) live considerably longer-50 to 100 years. This is well documented. Look it up.

2:50 Cher Ami was actually the pigeon that carried the "stop it" message from the American (not French) 77th division. Also, by the time that message was sent, there were only about 200 soldiers left in the original 600. That story was dramatized in the 2001 movie "The Lost Battalion.".

Oscaror S Dude is that so cool. I gotta get me one. Honestly? Petsmart? You're right though I wouldn't expect a pet store to have doves. What are they like though? I find parrots can range from friendly to outright batshit psycho who will bite you for the fun of it but I always figured doves and pigeons and other members of the family columbidae to quite friendly.

These doves (diamond doves) are kinda skittish but can be tamed like mine is. It has a play gym outside of the cage where it just sits and it is homing to that area. They wouldn't hurt a fly, well they would but that's it they're really nice. They're a small species mine is 7 inches long and it's easier to care for than my budgies.

Another fun pigeon fact (which I discovered while working at an avian nursery): When you feed pigeons their seeds, you can check to see if they are digesting them properly by feeling the pigeon's belly. If the seeds aren't digested yet, the pigeon will feel exactly like a beanbag chair. It is adorable and cute and I love pigeons.

neat pigeons stabilize there vision by moving there head, and habib levi so you know pigeons also travel threw magnetic fields you can train them to go in a certain spot very easy if there a nuiscance do some research there are plenty of methods to make them leave without a gun heck buy some bird seed set a feeder down the road they will go to the food. pigeons have saved many human lives and are a very intelligent animal you calling them a nuiscance i find quite insulting as i keep them as pets got them trained to go to the bathroom in a garbage can got them trained to do tricks i can take them outside on my shoulders or if its cold they snuggle into my shirt they can be trained to find things you can train a pigeon to do anything u want yet u cant train most humans to do anything productive AND THE PIGEON is the nuiscance? were the ones destroying its habitat and forcing it to live in cities where the ones that are the nuiscance if i kicked u out of your home and told u if u want to come back ud be shot how would you feel? thats what your telling the pigeon

I agree. Pest Control companies should adopt non kill methods as public(Facebook groups etc...) are calling them out for trapping and killing them.
