This information is really helpful for me, because I am in a developing country; the education system is extremely flawed and we do not have strong scientific curriculums. As a result, many people in my country, Egypt, believe in pseudo-science and superstition. These nice animations and wonderful puns, combined with easy explanations of science (biology, ecology, geology), helped me develop critical thinking skills, improved my communication abilities and enhanced my vocabulary in English. I want to thank all the directors, writers and illustrators of the Minute Earth team, and most importantly, the patrons who help make this free for people like me. Thanks a lot for your hard work and detailed illustrations. Thanks for the entertainment and education. Thanks for the funny puns. Science has also helped me understand the world and know facts from lies. It saved me from developing radical ideas. These videos have a huge effect on me. So, thanks for everything

Cowbirds differ. Some lay eggs identical to their host birds eggs, or as near as they can. But recently scientists have noticed that the host birds are going through and finding the cowbird egg and pushing it out of their nest. Some birds have begun to change their eggs patterns so the cowbirds egg is more noticeable. Extinction might be coming for a few breeds of cowbirds.

To be fair, both cuckoos and cowbirds have legit reasons for not raising their own young - they simply don't have time. The majority of cuckoos that are brood parasites are migratory by nature and often have to travel vast distances to find the best food, leaving them with little time to raise a family. Cowbirds are the same - they frequently follow cattle and bison and eat the insects they either disturb or attract. As the cattle are always moving, the birds are always moving too.

Some cuckoo species actually kick off the competition from the nest and the fake parents..warblers in this case..will still continue to take care of them! The main idea is that the cuckoo baby doesn't have any intent to kill, it just wants space and so it uses it's feet to grab on the nest and proceed to toss the eggs with it's butt. @fubberpish36142 жыл бұрын
yep! like the Cuckoo Catfish (Synodontis multipunctatus) from Lake Tanganyika in Africa, that finds spawning cichlid fish, and then dashes in and spawns it's own eggs. The cichlids are mouthbrooders (a form of parental care practiced by many fish, where one parent protects the eggs by holding them in their mouth), and will mistakenly pick up and care for the catfish eggs as well. When the catfish fry hatch, they will then begin to voraciously gobble up the cichlid young, as well as unhatched/infertile eggs. You may well have seen a Cuckoo Catfish and not even have known it - they are sometimes kept in aquariums. Their bold spotted patterning and lively, active swimming makes them an attractive fish. However, they require a large tank and due to their lack of scales, are more sensitive to water conditions than other fish.
