You look back in time to some of the greatest one handers; Edberg, Sampras, Becker, Stich, Krajicek. Their non dominant hands stayed close to their bodies and sometimes even were bent forwards at the elbow. Different technique but most definitely effective.

I'm with you on these tips especially the first tip. I crush short balls on my back side. My hitting partner lives in fear when he gives me a short backhand. I know you don't like the high backhand but I love this shot. After I learned this shot about seven months ago, I no longer think about stepping back on high balls. I just smack that ball back deep. The feel you get from this shot is so good, you can paint the baseline. You should develop this shot.

So you don't step back on high backhands but step in and take them on the rise? Or do you really hit them high?

Great video, Brady. Thanks again for your great tips on the one-hand backhand, especially with regards to the non-dominant hand. In my experience you’re one of the first pro’s to emphasize this. Because of this tip I get better upper body rotation and I don’t get a sore shoulder (hitting arm) anymore, even after long hitting sessions. Thanks again.

Super helpful. I try and do all three, but great seeing all three (reminders) put together as Musts. My lung step (especially on a diagonal) can improve as can the non dominant takeback control be more prevalent and ease on finish consistently.

Very helpful Brady - I think I can keep these three tips in mind without hitting overload. One question - when you lunge, it appears that you are keeping your feet in a slightly closed position (as opposed to the forehand when your stance is more open). Would there ever be a situation where you would open your stance to get more whip?
@DailyTennisLesson
@DailyTennisLesson 3 жыл бұрын
No a slice should be hit out of an open or neutral stance. Using an open stance can cause problems like the ball popping up.

Awesome video! Adding to the question below about the recommended grip for the one handed back hand, what bevel do you use?
@DailyTennisLesson
@DailyTennisLesson 4 жыл бұрын
Eastern backhand grip, which means your base knuckle should be on bevel 1. Here's a video I did on this: www.dailytennislesson.com/video/eastern-backhand-grip-backhand-grips/

I use a western grip on my one hander (knuckle on bevel 7), but everywhere I read says Eastern is the best (knuckle on bevel 8, the top one). Why is that and should I worry?
@DailyTennisLesson
@DailyTennisLesson 4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you're in a semi-western grip, which is totally fine and some pros use this effectively. Although an eastern backhand grip is more common and not quite as extreme as it's typically easier to hit for power. (also fyi bevel 1 is the top of the racket, not 8)

Can you explain/show how to hit a high looping top spin back hand and a harder top spin with less net clearance? I can do this on the forehand side, but the backhand side is another story
@DailyTennisLesson

OK noted Ralph. Will do more contact on the backhand side for sure.

Brilliant video. In an earlier video you promoted a eastern grip, you index finger knuckle on bevel 1 but in this clip you have all your fingers close together and your index finger knuckle appears to be on bevel 2. Why is that?
@DailyTennisLesson
@DailyTennisLesson 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Laurence. I definitely play out of an eastern backhand grip, but you can certainly cheat over for more spin. Hybrid grips are OK and common.

Thanks Brady 3 Great musts, starting with a great leap(step) forward (defiantly not musts to avoid kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKannqmXltOabJY) I like to have a song in mind when hitting a backhand I find it relaxes me and that grip.
