In our school its standard to pick 4 alevels and either drop 1 at some point in the year or at the end of y12
@mustafaaniladanir6 жыл бұрын
But the 4 subject you do in year 12 are AS Levels not A levels, the 3 you do in year 13 are A levels. An AS level is like half an A level.
@TehDragonGuy7 жыл бұрын
Currently in year 12 and taking four A-Levels, expecting AAAA at AS; taking 4 A-Levels is hard and unnecessary. I'm doing Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Comp Sci, and finding the time to fit it all in and to become competent in all 4 is hard. I'm dropping Physics at the end of the year because of it, so all I would say is REALLY consider whether taking 4 would help at all; I know you might want to (so did I), but if it isn't necessary and isn't going to help, don't. Nowhere, not even Oxbridge, need four A-Levels, and it's better to get great grades in 3 than good grades in 4. i.e An AAA would probably be looked at better than an AABB pretty much every.

TehDragonGuy hello. Hope you’re doing well. So my A levels just started and I’m planning on taking the exact same subjects as you(except for further maths) I’m taking physics, chemistry, maths and computer science. I realise that this comment of yours is 2 years old so I’m assuming you’ve started your uni by now?? Could you please guide me a bit? I want to study computer science in uni and will hopefully apply to oxbridge and ivy leagues. Whether i get in or not, is a different scenario. However, i feel that 4 subjects are way too many. Especially because they are sciences. Do you think I should drop one? And if so, which one should i drop? If i end up dropping a subject, will i still have a chance at unis like oxbridge and ivy leagues?? I would REALLY be thankful if you replied. I’m going through such a hard time right now. Thank you.

Bexxa J you have the subjects needed for medicine and if you love french then take it
@LemonGumdr0pz7 жыл бұрын
If I were you, I'd choose between maths and french because all the subjects you've chosen are really hard; that combined with the fact you want to do 4 means you're going to be in for a challenge, I think. You don't need 4, and think about all the work experience you'll need for medicine- your time would be much better spent doing that than extra work for another a-level. You only need chemistry and biology to get into most medical schools; maths/physics may also be needed in Oxford or Cambridge but other than those it is not necessarily preferred- in fact some medical schools prefer an essay based subject for example, so don't rule out French. I've heard doing a language a-level also means you can spend the last year of a medicine course in a placement abroad or something but you'd have to look into that. I want to do medicine and I've chosen chemistry, biology and theology/religious studies. :-)

Take French and drop the maths. If you are good at it, it could give you an advantage over other applicants who will all have bio chem and maths. And now many universities want you to do biology and chemistry with a subject other than maths or physics.

I do English Lang&Lit, Psychology, Art. I currently was also doing an AS Level of core maths but feel as though it will look faulty to unis (as most people who take it, do it because they did not pass maths in gcses) as i got a 6 in my maths GCSE. I spoke to the teachers about upgrading from core maths to A Level maths (i’ve already taken my first lesson there to test it out) but due to my bad mental health in year 10, 11.. their imagery of me is poor and i know deep down i was much better than what i was completing at the time. I want to study Law/Criminology in Uni. I was wondering if you could please help me decide whether to a, take A Level Maths as a fourth subject or b, drop core and A Level Maths and just stick to the three

@alexjones5462 жыл бұрын
There isn't any. You can take as many A-Levels as you want - go private candidate! Though many schools/colleges ask for 5 GCSEs at grade 7 or above to do 4 and 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above to do 3 in order to do A-Levels in their school/college.

@georgiacrossley22743 жыл бұрын
Hi Primrose! I really need some advice. I want to do biology, English literature and french but I also would like to do chemistry. The sixth form I would like to go to only offers three and if you do four (which I can because I am a higher achiever) you cannot drop it for some reason :( I don’t know whether it would be too much to do four but if I decide I want to do a science-related degree then chemistry would really help me. I’m just lost. I always change my mind on careers so I also think if I decide not to do science it would be a waste of hard work doing four :/

I have considered doing four and then dropping (probably chemistry) later in year 12 just so I can see for myself what it is like.
