Man, lately I've been feeling stale and generally lost with the guitar and it's been depressing. However, seeing your videos always makes me feel inspired to play again. Thank you for the content.

I cannot wait to start these exercises. I basically gave up trying to shred in the 90's, but like a fidget spinner, i need to have one !! [practice these] Rick is an amazing teacher. With impeccable technique AND,,,,,,,Attitude. . Why did i give up? like many of us, we never really knew about picking techniques, other than TRYING to keep alternate picking going, and then Eric and Yngwie came out.......

Definitely going to spend some time with these patterns! Not sure if you cover it in any of your lesson packages, but if you could ever go over your picking technique, it would be amazing. Your pick attack is so good and immediate. I’m guessing it has a lot to do with how you angle the pick and possibly if you shape them a certain way? Thanks Rick!
@nigelalker53864 жыл бұрын
Hey Rick, can you put out the tabs for these 3 patterns - great lesson but bit quick to digest the sequence. Really into your teaching so after this I will be on your store to buy some lessons, pls can you let us all know when you can do these {asap} and pls mention the R, 3, 5, 7, 9,11, 13 ETC order of sequence. Are these just the extensions {as in the modal extensions, I am thinking in terms of a type of a HACK}, great job, best teaching and inspiration yet, thank you.
@straightshooter86625 жыл бұрын
You showed a pic of yngwie at the beginning. He always used easier sequences that used even number notes per string that allowed changing strings on up strokes and if not he would use legato to make it work that way only up strokes on the string changes which allowed the speed he got. These are much More difficult to do. BTW what pick do you use? You find thicker or thinner ones work better? Tia

Yes, I posted it when I first started watching the video and was trying to figure out what mode it was to help grasp the patterns. I think it would helpful if it stated that he was cycling the sequences through the positions in D natural minor.

@tommcilwraith69255 жыл бұрын
Hi Rick, Another great lesson. I did notice though that you change the pick stoke direction at the beginning of each sequence...Sometimes you start with an up stroke and other times with a down which is confusing me. Would you be kind enough to quickly tell me what the stroke is for the first note of each new sequence and I'll be on my way with this. Many thanks form a huge fan.

Hi Rick. I ve a question: in the third pattern you use an upstroke in the fourth note (first string) , doing an 'outside picking' from the second string ( third note) .. is it for more articulation or what?thanks

Rick you have replaced my all time Guru Paul Gilbert, as the virtuoso that has increased-improved my ability to pick shred, jaw dropping type soloing, put a band together and get out and tour, have some t-shirts made, too many people don't know who you are. Would love to have a few pints with you ,you have a great sense of humor, too many Guitar Gods take themselves so seriously, and need a good kick in the ass. I would love if Guthrie Govan , Greg Howe? did a similar daily teaching series, get back into the gym brother, that extra weight is unhealthy,I would like to have you around for a real long time, bet you're not fighting off the Chicks much lately, anyway really enjoy your amazing playing! Thanks mate! Come to Florida.

for the first example, It seems you are starting with an up, but when you continue the sequence you are starting with a down. Otherwise you would have 2 ups in a row.

Ok, I see what you are doing on the first example. This worked for me and felt most comfortable. Economy picking as you descend and alternate as you ascend. So the pattern is: U,D,U U,D,U U,D,U D,U,D U,D,U,D for one position, then repeat for all the next positions.

so your teaching ... 22fret huh??? so you start it off showing the main pattern starting on the on the 22nd??? makin it rather difficult on a tele or most guitars and startin it out there is akin to a swift kick in the balls ...and your playing it way to fast and tellin to practice it slowly...now some guys will teach painfully slow and yak yak yak but this thing your showing is a little more deserving of at least a slow showing.. don't need calling out each note or fret but crap you just blow thru it like it's your standard fair!!! why you doin that???
