It all depends how you base it. For me if we go overall it is Pep, Klopp, Emery, Poch, Arteta. But to be fair there are top class managers in the league now. I sort of like almost every single manager in the league now which is crazy rare

He also got spurs to a UCL final ( which tops winning a FA cup) , many top 4 finishes on a much smaller budget as the stadium was being built. Arteta has essentially had one good season ?

People love to bring up Arteta finishing 8th twice and at the same time suck off Emery. Arteta took over an Emery side mid season when we were 12th. Even when Emery finished 5th and got to the Europa final, the football was absolutely dreadful. Just looking at league finishes over a negligible amount of time doesn't tell you much.

Emery is better even if you discount that season Arteta still finished 8th in the other season he has had one season with Arsenal where they actually finished higher than with Emery and Arteta has been there much longer you can’t just compare the one season Arteta finished higher and ignore all the seasons where he didn’t. Emery has proved he can do it at more than one team for almost 20 years Arteta has barley started you can’t even mention Arteta in the same breath as Emery. So what if it was boring it seemed to work Emery changes his style dependant on the players he has and he did what he felt would work mostly with players who weren’t his that’s what any good manager does. it only went wrong for a couple of months and he unfairly wasn’t backed but Arteta was when he struggled. Also Mourinho was boring but guess what he won stuff which is the most important thing.

@MultiDejohn Emery would never challenge for the league with Arsenal. The fact that you're even trying to argue Emery vs Arteta at Arsenal says it all. Nobody who actually watched Emery's Arsenal vs Arteta's would ever say what you're saying. It didn't go bad for a couple months with Emery, his entire tenure was bad. We went 20 games unbeaten or something with him and it was the luckiest more dire football I've ever watched at Arsenal. Emery was letting Watford pepper 20+ shots vs us because he couldn't set up a midfield or defence. There's no way in earth you actually watched Emery's Arsenal. Emery got backed more than Arteta did in his first 2 windows. Actually know some things before you speak please.

Of course I didn’t watch Arsenal all the time and you may not of liked how Emery played but at the end of the day in his only full season he still finished 5th. Stop making this just about Arsenal I’m trying to talk about the individual managers. Also when I said backed I meant given more time not financially. I’m saying Emery is better than him as a manager not he did better at Arsenal. He had one bad season (which actually wasn’t that bad) even though it’s at the same team it doesn’t prove that Arteta is better especially as he only finished higher than him in one season. A manager shouldn’t be judged on one season especially given how well he has done at other teams.

@@SN64736 league position is what matters in the end though Mourinho didn’t always play the most interesting style but it got results. In terms of finish it wasn’t any worse than Wenger’s last few seasons. I don’t really think the board’s opinion proves much as keeping Wenger as long as they did was also a mistake as Arsenal stagnated for years after the initial success of Wenger. I think with Emery it was more a case of wrong place wrong time rather than not being good enough especially as I feel much like Ferguson at United anyone following Wenger was destined to fail.

It will be interesting to see how he deals with setbacks at spurs like injuries because that's what makes a manager special is when they can perform in the tough times. People don’t understand how hard it is to be the elite. Villa can go into mid table games and if they lose no one will criticise. Arsenal don’t win arteta will get a lot of criticism. Simple as this the top are pep klopp arteta. To be an elite manager you have to be elite week in week out and title wins and charges show that.

By your definition Emery is an elite manager. He took over a team with arguably no elite players, poor form in a relegation battle and instantly brought them up to the game winning level of a top 4 team. He took control of the club at the end of October last year and between that point until the season ended they racked up points at a similar rate as Liverpool and Arsenal. Not to mention his 10 trophies to Arteta's 3, clearly an elite manager

I'm an arsenal fan and I'm not convinced by arteta. He's had more misses than hits when it comes to transfers. His in game management is not great. Of course Arsenal are better now but Emery only had one season Arteta is only at this stage because he got the time Emery never did and didn’t have the baggage of being the manager after Wenger.
