Lol same here girl. I started watching Mell and learned a ton from her on how to take care of my curly/wavy hair. I also use the LUS leave in styler and the Verb foaming gel. And the EvaNYC 10-in-1 primer for heat protection and extra slip. Past that I just diffuse and then use the Verb Ghost Oil to scrunch out the crunch and make my hair look super shiny. It's been such a game changer for me!!!

So curly me never learned either, so I tried to hide it. My husband was actually the one who said he loved my curls once he saw my curls after 5 years😬🤷♀️ Yes, I was a star in hiding. Curly girl here! Had a mom with stick straight hair. I feel your pain. Embraced the curls in 2018 and never looked back. I am also super lazy and have fine hair so….. bonnet for sleep is a must, diffuser is a meh I mostly air dry. Love twist products. They are cheaper baby sister of Ouidad. Also “not your mothers” and Eva NYC have great products that will help fine hair. But layers and brush styling are an awesome start. I can also recommend the microfiber towels that Manes by Mel sells. They rock! For me a leave in conditioner is amazing and can help you prep your hair for swimming. Either way your curls and you are gorgeous. Love your videos and your energy and honesty. So relatable. Keep up the stellar work. You are glorious!

My hair is very curly but also very fine. I have recently started using a nano microfibre towel to blot/squeeze the water out after washing. It is very soft and a smooth texture (not like towelling ). It has made a big difference in reducing frizz.
@jessicataylor13 Жыл бұрын
I have the same hair type: fine and curly. So fine that the weight of the water and curl cream can easily have my roots plastered to my scalp. I need that volume! So I started pressing the microfiber towel into my hair after applying products while leaning from side to side. My favorite products for a super simple routine is light leave-in called Curlsmith 3 in 1 Multitasking conditioner (small amount as a leave in). THE product that pulled the whole routine together for me is the DesignMe curl cream. My stylist suggested it because I was trying to slather on product to my hair. Even most gels were too much. I saw so many other girls with curly hair applying so, so much product and sectioning the hair off so I thought I should too, but FINE curly hair is really a different beast. It’s curly hair on Hard Mode.

Oh I feel your frustration! Curly Gurly here, 70s kid and yeahhhh... outcast bc all of my friends had thick, straight hair. I'm the only one in my family with coils and frizz, and no one knew how to style or care for my locks. My hair has thinned from health issues, medications, age, etc, but I embrace the tumbleweed upon my head. I've tried ALL the products, and it's hit or miss. The Cantu coconut spray from the drugstore has been my recent fave, along with John Frieda curl refresher. The Suave Baby leave in conditioner is also miraculous. For shampoo I use products intended for textured, natural hair as they seem less harsh. It's a process, but I wouldn't trade my curls for anything 😊

*Favorite Low Density, fine, 2B Wavy Products* . Pacifica Rosemary Purify Shampoo and Condition, JVN Pre-poo Scalp oil, Aussie Sprunch + Leave In Mousse, Shea Moisture High Porosity Mask (20 minutes prior to shampooing). Too many silicones definitely affects my waves. The Aussie Sprunch does contain silicones but it works fabulously for me for a re-fresh on non-wash days. I find using a hair mask prior to shampooing gives my hair great conditioning without being too heavy. The Pacifica Rosemary Purify is a holy grail and will always be in my shower. I wash 2x/per week on average. I highly recommend a shower filter and I only use distilled water for my re-freshes. I do get better wave pattern using Mel's brush styling technique.

There's nothing wrong with the hair getting a little bit crunchy, you can scrunch it out with a lightweight oil like Grapeseed oil and that way you also seal the fibers and avoid some frizz. I have very fine hair (coily like Mel's) and use Curlsmith products and they are 🔥🔥🔥 their Scalp Recipe line is fantastic!! Doesn't leave it greasy and doesn't weight it down.

When you spoke in the beginning, it was like you were telling my life story! I'm 42, curls from dad, and mum always said my hair was frizzy, brought me to salons and I have had my hair rebonded since I was 20! I actually loved my straight hair because it was easy to handle. So the lockdown caused me to miss my rebonding sessions, and I decided to just accept the frizzy, slightly curly hair. Well, 2022 was the year I started learning abt skincare, and 2023? I started learning how to take care of my curls! And the journey has been amazing! I don't have slightly curly hair, it seems I have type 3b which is quite curly. Slowly learning the different products involved, and next purchase will be a diffuser. You know what? My current hairstylist is so happy that I decided to embrace my curls that she's suddenly sharing all the methods to care for curls that I'm like, "why didn't you say this before?" "You always wanted straight hair and so happy about it!" 😂

You should really try curl Smith bonding salve. Especially if you’ve used heat it is what saved my hair. For well over 10 years, I straightened my hair. But I would use hairspray then straighten then hairspray. Only for it to last maybe 30 minutes. So it led me to just hating my hair. Then I found KZbin and Manes by Mell and went on a hair care journey and in my sixth year, I truly feel like my hair has never been more beautiful. I know how to take care of it. I know how to tweak it to make it what I need it to be. And I’ve learned the products and techniques that have given me the hair of my dreams. I love my hair and I’m so happy Cassandra that you are on a hair care journey as well. I would suggest Fekkia apple cider vinegar line get the scalp detox scrub, shampoo, and the detangling conditioning rinse. The use a deep conditioner in shower or moisturizing curly conditioner. I use the shea moisturize coconut and hibiscus curl, and shine shampoo and conditioners. And because you like being out in the sun and swimming and things, I would also suggest the curl Smith miracle shield. It protects against the sun, heat, and chlorine/sea water. It’s been a lifesaver for me. I’m outside for a couple hours a day and I always stay covered head to toe in 70 spf and my hair protected by the Miracle Shield. I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day and enjoy your Saturday. Love all your videos.❤

Sis, I relate SO MUCH with your story! My mom has straight hair, so straight that people thought she straightened it everyday, and my dad has wavy/curly hair like me. My parents are divorced and I lived with my mom. She loved my hair, but had no idea how to style it when I was growing up, and we used the same hair products. When I stayed with my dad during the weekends I knew he hated his hair because he straightened it, so that means that he hated mine too, and my entire life he tried to flattened mine out with his hands, or pulled up my hair and said, this hairstyle is beautiful for you. My dad was bullying me!!! it was really painful and my self esteem went to sh-- because of him. I always hated my hair because of it, kept it at a certain amount of length and call it a day. A few years before covid I cut it as a bob, people loved it, and I was like meh, but i started to appreciate more my curls, and let me tell you girl, COVID helped me to love my curls! My hair grew and learned to style it. It was of course, a trial and error kinda thing because this was brand new. Spend a lot of money, the products didn't work for me, but now I think I am learning to appreciate and love my curls, and people are starting to compliment them, and I never had that before. And you know what? REPRESENTATION IN MEDIA MATTERS!!! now that i am older I am watching and admiring the curly girls when I was growing up, like Carrie Bradshaw, she was proud of her curls, had good and bad hair days and didn't give a shit, and has been a statement for SJP besides her gorg shoes and style. I know this is a long post but I wanted to share my story!!! Have a nice weekend

I’m also a cosmetologist and I’ve got some recs for u! You might really enjoy the ouidad water works shampoo. It’s a clarifying yet hydrating shampoo for hard water and chlorine/salt. It’s my fav clarifier. For a non clarifying wash the LUS shampoo and conditioner are THEE SHIT. So important to have good conditioner and shampoo. You’ll see a huge difference. Stylers are more personal choice, but you can totally do a one and done styler for the lazy days. I love the doux mousse def and uncle funks daughter gel (separately, as solo stylers). Really the most important thing is the wash products, and treating your hair nice. Your curls looks so beautiful and I’m thrilled you’re embracing them 🥹

It's funny because in south korea for example everyone coveted curly hair so they'd all get their straight or barely wavy hair permed and curled all the time, which was why people would look at ME weird or even scathingly when I didn't get my hair permed or curled. My hair isn't even straight per se, kinda wavy actually, so I actually wanna try the verb one if I get the chance.

We have the exact same hair type. I have quite a lot of hair, but it it extremely fine. Looks like a lot, but if you grab it it is not much. I have always loved my curls though even in the eighties and nineties where there where NO products for curly girls with our hair type. My absolute favorite mouse, the one I have been using for the last 4 years is "Moroccanoil Curl mousse". I can go for days just using wet hands to scrunch my curls in the morning after using this product after washing my hair. I also don't like to spend much time on it on a daily base because I'm just too busy for that. 😁

Curly girl here. If you start with somewhat dry hair, you can always spray it with water (use a dollar store spray bottle) as you brush it to knock down frizz and get you back to more defined curls. I feel your pain, though. Notice I have straight hair in my picture...Anyway, I also love shampoo and conditioner bars, so I thought I'd leave you with that recommendation if you ever feel like trying something new. My hair is also quite thin and, although you have to pick which brand you like best (Naples Soap Co - no for me as I found them far too drying. Royalty soaps very good! Leaves a clean scalp while giving me soft hair. Quench Bear is also great, but its shop is temporarily closed), they travel well (so easy to take to the pool or beach) and, no matter the supplier, last every bit as long as advertised, which is somewhere around 45-60 washes.

Try the gel from luv your curls. It is awesome. I am older than you I I just started to embrace my curls in the past year. I kept a brush cut for years... so I didn't have to deal with my frizzy wavy hair.

Oh, the curl cream I use is either the Olaplex 6 (yes, it's heavy, but nothing controls frizz like it and trust me, Ive tried) and the OGX locking + cococmut Curls Air Dry Cream 💗What a lifesaver and curl saver when I have no time to blowdry. I apply these *either, after leave in conditioner, do the brush thing, then use the Verb foam to coat the outside of the curls! @Manes by Mel is a genius💗🦋💗🦋💗🦋

They changed that OGX locking coconut curls cream. I used it for years. Idk what's going on with that company, but it's really going downhill. Sorry. They really have been messing with the formulas and yes, that one seems more watered down, and the fragrance is different. Seems like it may be actually the conditioner. This has happened so many times in the past three years. I keep checking the batches at different stores and you can tell they're changed. I switched to Not Your Mother's curl defining cream and Maui Moisture shampoo and conditioner. Funny though, Maui Moisture is owned by Vogue Intl, same co that makes OGX. But now J and J owns it all! 🤦🏻♀️ I hope you figure out what works for you though.

@Amber🌱Woods🍄 I use the coconut curls one, when I have nothing pending, (aka, staying home) but use the Olaplex curl cream when I go somewhere or know there will be humidity. I'm a bit of a miser🤑 thanks for the info💗🦋

Ok, so I’ve bag around the curry block. I’ve tried the fancy pants brands to the Cheepo stuff, and I have to say my favorite product that I can’t live without is v05 strawberries and cream conditioner. You can use it as a co Wash, reg conditioner, or leave in (but my hair is also fine so I usually don’t leave it in but that’s an option.) it makes my hair feel like GLASS - Slippery, slicker fun. Silicone free, got some protein which my hair loves… and yeah- I can usually get by switching out my other products, but I always use this! Btw, brushing my hair into robins like that I’ve always done and it’s always worked well, but if you ever find it starts to not with as well for a while, I give it a break from brushing for a couple weeks, and it does better again- basically don’t be afraid to go back and forth if your hair falls like it’s not performing as well. 💖💖💖 your curls. No one can ever replicate your own curl pattern, it’s really special. Embrace it m, love on it, and enjoy it like you do your beautiful skin (and spirit) ✨🐬🐈

I most of the time I let my hair air dry at night and style it in the morning I would spray my hair down brush it and scrunch my hair with foam and leave in conditioner and most Of the time I just let my hair dry sometimes I’ll diffuse but I don’t really like to always do that I find it can make my hair frizzy a little bit

If you are willing to invest in a good dryer that comes with a diffuser the Laifen Swift or the Tymo Airhype. Both come with diffuser and straightening attachments. I have the Laifen, anything happens to it I'm getting the Tymo. It used to take 30 minutes to diffuse my hair, now it's 10-15.

I have very wavy hair, but I've been resistant to blow drying most of my adult life. Fortunately, I've found styling creams that work pretty well for air drying.

I don't get the "scalp cleaner" argument for the product that you are using. I'm happy that you found something that works for you, but you are never supposed to shampoo your ends, like what's shown at 5:32, you are always only supposed to wash your scalp, never ever your ends.

I finally tamed the frizz after moving back to a humid climate. I took a lot of trial and error but I got it! And to my friends who say they have "frizzy hair," I say - "frizzy" is not a hair type. You have curly or wavy hair that is just frizzy right now, but we can fix that - it just takes time to find what works for you. If you're struggling just remind yourself, frizzy is not a hair type.

Your hair is beauty Cassandra ❤ I am literally wanting to cry tho because I just can't quite figure out how to take care of my wavy curls. Been using a curl cream for years but never realized that the ingredients were bad and now this one brand is continually screwing up their formula. I switched to Not Your Mother's curl definer cream and flexible gel which I have yet to try out but I'm hopeful. Be washing soon. I know I'm a 2c, but fall into a 2b most of the time. Could probably go up to a 3a. Anyway, I've invested in all the right silicone and sulfate free stuff, currently using Maui Moisture shampoo and conditioner Curl Quench. May be too heavy.. I know I have high porosity hair, but I'm thinking I don't have super course hair after all, more like medium or like yours. I have pretty long hair, dull, dry and shredded ends, unable to retain moisture, prone to insane tangles, I'm 40, not gray, just a natural ashy taupe brown. No heat or color in over 7 years. But it's like my hair has multiple personalities! I could have beautiful natural beachy spiral waves if I wanted to, but I have hard water issues too. I can't afford the whole enchilada yet, but I definitely need to figure this out soon. I am about 2 months into my CGM journey. I absolutely despise straight hair on myself. I love spiral Waves and curls, so I'm researching like crazy. Michelle Manuel has been very helpful on YT. She has similar hair. But I'm mostly Irish, not like it matters, or does it? Lol😅 So growing up, I was always told I was flawed, had rats' nests, cowlicks and brush it to death with a boar bristle brush. Back in the day there was no such thing as wavy curls. It was either your hair is misbehaving, and should be "punished", or follow the crowd and straighten it. My hair is resistant to straightens, even the most costly ionic types. It's just a big frizzy mess unless I take the time and effort, which due to intense, chronic health issues, I'm limited in my efforts. I can't spend that much time and energy. Anyway, glad I came across your video. You should keep embracing the spirals. It's so much prettier. PS; I still deal with debilitating adult acne. Can't kick it in 30 years. I have very high maintenance skin.

Manes by Mell has high porosity hair too so seeing how products work on her hair might be helpful for you? She does use some products that are expensive, at least where I’m from, but she’s done videos with cheaper products too and I feel like once you know what to look for you might have an easier time deciding what to try even if it’s not something she recommended. She has a video about the inkey list and the ordinary, I’m not sure if you can get the inkey list where you are but they have a chia seed curl defining treatment that seems like it can be used on its own. Which is good for people like us who don’t want many steps! If you can find that video hopefully it will give you an idea of whether or not you might like it. My hair is different to yours but I can’t figure it out either. It’s somehow frizzy and flat at the same time, even though it’s thick. I’ve aggressively brushed my curls out like my mum used to do and I’m not sure if they’ll come back. I’m having hard water problems too and ever since my city increased the chlorine in the water it’s been drying, and even painful at times, so I dread showering and washing my face! I’m low on energy from chronic health issues as well, I hope you have good support and ways to manage. You’re not alone in being frustrated, confused and wanting to cry! I keep telling myself that this just means I have a lot to learn still. And that’s okay. Just because it’s challenging doesn’t mean we won’t figure it out one day 💕

I have very naturally curly hair.. I remember my late best friend had the straightest, thickest, shiniest hair that she would brush throughout the day and I always longed for her hair…of course it didn’t help when her Mon would tell me I had “nappy hair”.. I am still trying to find products for myself and my daughter (whose hair is even more of a springier coil than mine) to use..never really knew what to do with it!
