@@joelotto1252 I also married a much younger Filipino that I put through nursing school after she got here. Did it so that she would be secure no matter what happened to me. Being a nurse had been her dream as a kid, but her family did not have the money to send her to nursing college. So, she became a nurse, loved it, started making good money, and now she and her current husband are very happy. Oh, by the way, I am still her current husband, 16 years and counting.

There is one that I disagree with you on Tim. I think the PI tradition of taking care of parents is a good idea. Kids being taught to respect their elders with the tradition of "bless". If a girl gets pregnant and needs to work to support the baby and uses her parents to raise the child. She works and sends back what she can. In a country that is overall poor and doesn't have a retirement system its good that the families look out for each other. I really believe that we can learn much from them.

Only child forever. Adopted at birth in 1980. Was obscenely bored at times to the point kicking a ball against a wall was legitimate entertainment. Hawaii is just too expensive , and that is even for the locals born there. Many native born are being forced to move to the mainland to survive, like the family of a recent winner of American Idol. Of course, since you are from California you may be used to exorbitant prices. An average family from the middle of America would have serious sticker shock moving to Hawaii.

She is similar to my Filipina gf she comes from a large 9 kid family and she is like kids are to expensive and you can only have one, an I think its an over correction. In my experience most single children are spoiled brats. I am from a family of 5 and into my 30s now and am good friends with my siblings and very thankful i wasnt a single child with more stuff or that traveled more. Truth is kids dont care about travel or toys they like to play with other kid's wayyyy more. I think Filipino people have been a bit to influenced by tiktok and Instagram people who glamorize travel and material things, these things are great but not really that fulfilling long term and need to be balanced. I think these Filipina that come from large poor family and struggled think if they have 2 or three kids it will again be like their childhood and thats just not the case especially if them come to America and both me and my wife have good jobs and dont in in the most expensive cities. The poorest American kids live like pretty rich Filipinos, but i think it comes from a good place but is a bit frustrating at times
