You made the best point on the fact that commuter traffic is the most dangerous traffic to ride in. Not only in high numbers but often those cager drivers are tired or on their devices working before they get to work or getting on social media before going into work. Same when they finish, people often still working on the way home on devices or jumping on them again after a shift. Oh and everyone is in a hurry! Lethal conditions to be filtering in. Stay safe Salt 👍

I live in an urban West Virginia area, traffic is fairly heavy in the mornings during the commute but due to the amount of riders in WV most drivers are fairly aware of motorcycle riders. I ride a 1600 mean streak so most people hear me before they see me which is always a plus. I went from a Z8 to the mean streak mainly for comfort for highway riding. I always wear my gear. Jacket, helmet, gloves, and boots. Most of my pants are FR for my job and hold up a lot better than standard denim. I personally enjoy the commute, my lunch goes in my backpack when I pack it, and where I park at work is a gated lot so no issues with theft. Who the hell would want to steal a 750lb bike 😂. Anyway, I normally use my bike to commute 2-3 days a week to work just to keep the mileage down on my car and to get that nice wing thru the beard feel that wakes you up at 6:30am. Only issue I have is the wildlife here in WV. Deer are a huge issue, even on the highway so you always have to keep your head on a swivel so safety is always a top priority for me.

To each their own. I commute year round and have for years. I can't disagree with your points and understand those that won't or can't. To me riding is a big part of my mental health and I feel better riding then driving even on bad days. I've also commuted on bicycle up to 15 miles each way for years and the hassles are the same. I guess I got used to it. I've found it's nice to have a cheaper smaller second bike or scooter for commuting on instead of my nicer bike. You can't be to proud to do that though, and many are.

Here is a different perspective... I love the daily 2 hrs of commute (including winter riding) and lane splitting adventures. For spirited stuff, I go to the track - doing twisties and touring seems really boring (and unsafe) after that. Commuting is kind of a guilty pleasure, something is always happening (there is always a fool in a family sedan or hot hatch trying to race you :D) and you have to think at least 1-2 steps in advance. It's the best training for defensive riding, and I still can have a lot of fun on my MT-09. I always ride in full gear with a Kriega backpack and change at the workplace (I keep the bulkier clothing under my desk). On a hot or wet day my gear has plenty of time to dry. My bike is fully insured and I lock the front and rear... Wouldn't give up commuting for anything else, TBH.

Most of my riding is commuting. I used to have a sport bike and commuting on it was a pain. Now, I have a sport tourer, which has made commuting much more pleasurable. I also take my lunch in to work and I have hard bags to put it in. You have to have the bike that meets your needs. I live in Albuquerque which makes commuting always an adventure. I think it really depends where you live. In Southern California the weather is great year around, with very little rain overall. I've been using a motorcycle for commuting 12 years. In other states it can be inconvenient with snow, rain and other weather factors, but 7 years here in Southern Cal it's great. Also with lane splitting and traffic, you save a lot of time. Car time from my house to work with traffic is 1 hour 45 mins, on my bike it's usually 30-35 mins. It doesn't really get too hot usually here or too cold so not too much sweating going on in full gear. When I lived in PA it rained and snowed a lot, so definitely not the best for commuting much.

Also communicating in dress shoes just wasn’t cool. Shifter messed up my shoes man lol. 3 Someone hit me almost everyday. 4 daily task like grocery shopping was a pain. I had to put groceries on my handle bars and balancing was a mother lol. Overall it made riding less enjoyable and more of a task. Now having a truck and bike. I love it so much more! Hope you hit 100K soon nan congrats.

I agree with you 110%, anyone who disagrees obviously hasn’t done it. I’ve comminuted to work a quite a few times and it got old and I decided I’ll never do it again unless my vehicle is in the shop and thats my only mode of transportation. You know what job I have and the hassle it brings to change into my uniform and gear and id have to do my hair too and put it in a bun. It easily takes me an extra 20 mins to leave the house and I have a cruiser. I hate having to change at work cause by the time I’m done I’m all hot and sweaty before I even start my shift. It’s easy for people to ride their bike to and from work when they can wear jeans and a polo or T-shirt but for me it isn’t feasible. It’s just a hassle and that’s when I hate riding my bike. Idk how you commuted on a sports bike for 2 years. The weather is a big one too. It’s always raining in Florida. I don’t like to ride in the rain. It isn’t safe and drivers act like they’ve never driven in a rain storm before and are horrible.

The benefit to motorcycles is they are easier to park they can get through traffic jams and they can squeeze through where cars would be stuck. The only problem is people are impatient while commuting so someone could easily sideswipe you or run right into you. Any collision even very slow can cause serious injuries since you fall down.
