Yes this is true. I watched a documentary years ago about "the fall of the world's greatest civilizations". I'd suggest also if you've already purchased AR's in the past, this would be a great time to BUILD one. Great way to get intimately familiar with how the platform works, and where everything goes, and allows you to customize as you build from the parts you know you want/use (grips, triggers, safety levers/bolt catches/charging handles, etc.). Lowers are very easy to build. Uppers take a little more work (and some specific tools), but you can always purchased assembled uppers and you're then ready to go on your custom lower!

Don't forget the fact that with minimal gunsmithing tools and ability, the AR-15 can be reconfigured for a nearly infinite number of different ammo chamberings, from .22 LR all the way up to .243 Sharps, .300 Blackout, 300 Ham'r, .350 Legend, just to name a few from about 175 different ones, to include .458 SOCOM and .50 Beowulf. There is even a .50 Browning Machine Gun cartridge single shot bolt action upper receiver conversion available. Most of these cartridges only require a barrel change, with a few also needing a bolt and or magazine change. This rifle's brilliant design has to be the most versatile rifle EVER. If you choose to just replace the upper receiver with one of the different chamberings, a caliber change can be accomplished by simply pushing the two take down pins out, and utilize the original lower receiver for each different upper.
