The third week of the renovation project has been, by far, the most productive. We have builders, engineers, plumbers, electricians and a/c workers all on-site doing their respective jobs. A few deliveries arrived too, like the stone tiles for the bathroom, the marble kitchen sink, some lights for the bedroom, and a set of gorgeous 1960s cinema seats from Italy.
We demolished the internal walls and constructed new ones to create a guest bedroom and a more spacious bathroom. The permanent features in the living area and bedrooms are almost complete, the electricians have made great progress rewiring the house, and the air conditioning pipes are now also installed.
This week we also began the application for our building permit, so we can construct a pool and other exterior areas. Things are moving along very smoothly, with thankfully only a few minor hiccups along the way, but that's all part of the process.
It is looking likely that we will put the property on the market by April or May of this year, and we will be inviting potential buyers for private viewings in March. Let us know in the comments if you're interested in owning your very own dream home in Greece!
Now, I will go to Ireland for some days for work, and when I return, we'll complete the kitchen, bathroom and outside areas.
Then, all that remains is to paint, furnish and decorate the house.

I'm just finishing a 500 year old olive mill in the Mani ,I know what works are involved, in these restoration projects, I'm from Donegal,I found doing the work myself with a little help was more cost effective and it was done the way I wanted, good luck with the project

Now I can see why you looked so hard at the folding chair, you have great taste for good design. Loving your purchases, those lights are really well designed and beautiful.👍

It takes time and effort to find the right things, but it’s so worth it in my opinion.

I do hope the local council gets the road repaired. It took almost seven years to get our roadway paved. Every winter the light gravel would wash out leaving sharp stones sticking out everywhere. I finally got to the point after asking for years that I was going to bring my military HUMMV from the states, keep my plates on it as well as the military plate on it, not pay any road tax or import fees on it. I went through three sets of tires on my car in those seven years plus no taxi would come up to the property in the winter when we needed one, they did not want to ruin their tires or suspension. It seems they never have money to do any improvements here.

Sorry to hear about the bad experience in your area. We’ve seen quite a lot of improvements to the road systems in Crete over the last few years, but mostly the larger roads are prioritised. We’ve had a very productive and open dialogue with the council here, so I have full confidence in their plans for our road.

I am anxiously following along to see the results. My husband and I were just talking today about my dream of owning property in Greece to live part of every year. We fell in love with Greece/Crete over last summer as were fortunate enough to explore around the islands for 8 weeks. I’m curious… do you live there full time? Do you have building/renovation experience or in the field of design perhaps?

Thank you for following! I split my time between here and Ireland, but in a perfect world I would be here always. My degree is in design, and I have built/renovated a number of projects both in Greece and Ireland. You can see these here: stonebystone.gr

Thank you! We constructed our own house, and this is the only other one. It will be for sale as soon as the renovation is complete.
