I have many knives and machetes. Some are low priced and some are very expensive. To all of the "snobs" that commented in the last video they don't know how to care and sharpen a machete. I've got a condor parang and I keep it sharp and I love it. Some people can't afford expensive equipment and thank you for showing and giving opinions on affordable as well as expensive equipment. Camping is for everyone.

Dave, Dave, Dave…I highly respect your judgement on all things bladed, however, this blade may well be the Ferrari of blades but the machete you custom made for yourself is the Lamborghini! Hey, Pearson's. I am glad you like your new machete very much. You seemed to be very happy to see us for a few seconds there.(6:00~6:10, LOL) I will look around to see anyone imports the 3 River Blades where I live and will learn to sharpen convex ground blades. Enjoyed the presentation and thank you Pearson's.

I’ve got a Chinese made 440 steel bolo/ kukri blend, 3/16 thick. Hollow grind. I bought from the Ft. Lauderdale Swap Shop 30 years ago for $50. It’s 18 inches of baddassery. Never chipped. Barely roles. Holds an edge as long as my 1095CV. But doesn’t get quite as sharp. That doesn’t matter because it a chopping beast. Since the day I bought it, I expected it to fail. Just break while batoning. But instead the top bevel chews through batons. Tip has never failed with lots of throwing , stabbing, being a stupid 25 year old.Now that I’ve sharpened it down about as far as I can over the years, I wish I had bought 2 for $80. The vendor had a second one. No brand name. It was marketed as a mall Ninja weapon when I bought it in 1993. But It’s really the perfect survival chopper with a great self defense/ offense tip. Ready for the long steep bevel to be sharpened. It has #440 stamped on the tang(deep) . But in 30 years it’s never had the tiniest spot of rust form. I even lost it at my campsite for over a month, no rust when I found it in it’s crappy original nylon sheath with no insert.I’ve beat on it relentlessly. Especially through my twenties. Mostly in the southern Everglades on mangrove , brush Oak, and palms.I have no idea what the steel really is. But it is a stainless, holds an edge a long time. Field sharpening isn’t bad. And it loves to be honed with a 1095CV rod. Ceramic really doesn’t do much. It’s outlived 3 sheaths. And the TPE style rubber handle has seen better days, but is still 96% sound. Just some damage to one corner of the butt split to lanyard brass tube. My 440C folders and fixed blades I bought in the late 80’s and early 90’s are still in use, and from what I’ve seen online new today, considered to be expensive knives now. Linen micarta, glass infused wood layered, Diamond wood,TPE, and G10 handles.

@@Reallybigmonkey1 all of the years I have been carrying a fixed blade I'm 78 now and have had a fixed blade on my hip since I was 12 years old or a small one in my pocket. My thinking is the belt strap at minimum should be even with the butt of the knife in my case they are all one inch above the butt and some even more . The S-P-53falcon piggy back has the biggest distance of 31/2 inches because of the length. Happy Trails stay safe .

Outstanding machete, on a side bar we all know that everybody has an opinion and everybody’s inundated with gear ,information, junk, and steel fairies as I call them. D2, is an underrated steel. The sweet spot is in the heat tree and there’s only been a few people that have mastered the heat treat for D2 steel. On the other side of that most people don’t know how to sharpen a knife much less a machete.

That thing is throwing chips better than most hatchets/boys axes. It’s a very expensive piece of gear but for those that can afford it, they will have an absolute incredible tool that will serve them very very well. With that said, you say no sharpening, possibly stropping will be necessary for sure.

Looks great and your endorsement validates its Functionality. Wow D2. I always thought that would get chipped in a machete but the maker used thick steel and that convex edge put a a lot of strength being that edge. Smart. Next please do a video on maintaining that convex edge while sharpening. Thanks for the demonstration.

Dave I watch your videos in chronological order and I was only halfway through your previous machete comparison vid when I saw the thumbnail for this video and my first thought was the last thing this man needs to feed his blade addiction is another machete and then when I got a closer look at the machete I was like whoa I'm going to watch this video before I finished the previous one and I'm glad I did,if only for the fact that now you have helped me make my decision between getting D2 steel or Damascus steel for my next Katana.I can't justify that expense for machete although she is a beauty , and the only reason there are any Dodge or Ford people is because they simply can't afford a Lamborghini or Ferrari because if they were all the same price, yeah their would be no Dodge, Chrysler or Ford just the best of the best and clearly she's a beaut!So thanks for the info! And just to let you know I'm not really a mind reader,but I'm pretty sure at the end of your video when you asked Nick if there was anything he'd like to add I'm pretty sure what was going through his mind is where's mine LOL!👍

3 River Blades has an interesting site. A 10 percent discount can mean 'real money' saved! The photo gallery is well-done. Check out the 'shop' section and some Mosquito knives seem to be available now. (The Mosquito is a 3.5-inch blade and it is an EDC beauty!) TekLoks come in two sizes and there is a Moly lock available and well as a Kydex belt clip. They are on the 'accessories' list. Unfortunately, there is no company backstory on the site so I don't know which three rivers went into the name. We know the Hudson is one; the Mohawk must be another.
@3riverblades
@3riverblades 2 жыл бұрын
3 River Blades started in 2010 in a very small shop in NYC. The company was named after the three rivers that surround the city. Manhattan Island, which we locals just call “The CITY”, is bounded by the Hudson River to the west and the East River to the east. To the north, the Harlem River divides Manhattan Island from the Bronx and the mainland United States.

That grin before you intro'd the "Ferrari" of machetes.. I knew you were holding something good & I couldn't wait to see you make 'dem chips fly! I personally have an assortment of expensive & cheap machetes.. Some folk don't understand how the utility & purpose of all kinds of machetes to get the job done. I for one rocked a ww2 Australian army bolo for a decade before upgrading to something nice.. Had it sharpened, honed & cared for till it became a bit too ragged n bent out of shape. I spent a small fortune on some Condor blades then ended up favouring a cheaper cold steel sth African bolo because of how it cleared certain low hanging tree branches.. That being said, when you swing n miss or clip a rock or wire fence or whatever it doesn't matter if it cost $60 or $360.. you're going to be upset you're edge is cactus.. but if the blade wasn't that expensive to begin with.. you're less inclined to chuck a hissy fit over it.

Dave, there is no doubt that this is where a fine steel and excellent craftsmanship meld into one fine machete. I am still an old Beckerhead but find the Three Rivers Machete quite impressive as you have demonstrated. Anything that eats up hardwood with edge still intact and ready for more hardwood munching is right down my alley. I am a stickler for razor edge though, even on my axes and hatchets. It was nice watching Nick wailing away with the machete and repeatedly hitting the same spot without deviation. I guess that makes him a machete marksman. Many people hit everywhere but where they are aiming at. Thanks a whole lot for showing this Three Rivers Machete, maybe the manufacturer could be kind enough to send you some keeper knives to demonstrate. I would love to see some in your hands. I love 1095 ni-chrome steel that K-Bar and Becker uses. It is a high carbon steel but the steel is proprietary. 1095 can be found in various knives but most are inferior if they are from China.Precision tempering has much to do with how any steel holds up in my knuckleheaded opinion. Well at any rate, I pray that you and Nick are doing well and that God blesses you and the ones you love. Later. A friend always !
@Reallybigmonkey1
@Reallybigmonkey1 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Peter, I'm glad you liked it. I think you hit the nail on the head, precise tempering really means a lot on D2. I've got a Kabar kukri, Kabar Cutlass and a Kabar grass machete all in 1095. Is it their special 1095? I don't know. Thanks for watching Brother
@peterkinberger9741
@peterkinberger9741 2 жыл бұрын
@@Reallybigmonkey1 Yes it is their special 1095 Chro Van steel. I said ni-chrome in my note above by accident. Chrome Vanadium steel has long been used as a tough tool steel. Old wrenches were often made of Chrome Vanadium, in fact KBar has a really neat knife that is small but extremely practical that looks like a wrench handle. I don't have it in my collection but am going to get one. It just came out last year I believe. They also have something else you may be interested in, I have four of them, it is a survival fishing reel. You wind your line on it and clip it on the reel. The handle unscrews revealing a hollow handle where you can put floats, sinkers and hooks inside. Screw the handle back on, remove the reel clip and cast out your line. To retrieve , you just grab the line with one hand and with the other make a circular motion with the reel. There is also a hole on the end of the handle wherein you can put a loop of paracord to secure the entire assembly to your wrist. A great safety that prevents you from losing the whole thing. It will assist in bringing in heavy fighters. I love mine to death. I have three of the rigged with 4, 6 and 8lb. line and another I am rigging with 65lb. Spiderwire braided line. I want to see how well it catches in both fresh and saltwater environments. I love to carry 65lb. spiderwire in my pack because it has many uses beside fishing and I think you get 110 yards on a reel. In military training it can be used as a weapon , the garrote, primitive bow string, trapping, saw for plastic or nylon zipties, lashing, and so on. I really like 65lb. and up braided fishing line it is as indispensible as duct tape. You can even sew with it. I know you could think of a zillion things to do with it. Oh well, I apologize for this late reply. Thank you and may God bless you and those you love ! A friend always !

Finding I like convex grind for chopping as it doesn't seem to stick in cut as much but still has a good bite...Convex also seems smoother for baton splitting by not fighting the resistance of the wider wedge angle as much as with Scandi (depending on wood) Baton with Scandi DOES get that "pop" split = less striking with baton on dry "thready" wood...MY observations for THIS region ...Other's results & findings may vary ... :-) ...> Good description on use of tool steels for this application!
