I've carried machetes in the bush for about 59 years Southeast Asia, Africa, Central & South America & Far North. Favorite is customized Tramontina I got in a trade with a Miskito Indian in Nicaragua. Have used many over the years. It's a primary tool.

Great video. I have only bought one machete in my life and that's the 18 in Ontario. Except I got the saw back version because you can use that for cutting notches Etc. If anybody wants a sheath for it all you have to do is buy the hard rubber sheath, cut off the hook on the back, then get the Rothco canvas machete sheath which the plastic sheath fits into perfectly. The Rothco machete canvas sheath has two D rings, four molle straps, two pockets for sharpening stone etc and a big belt loop. The good thing is that you never have to worry about the machete cutting the canvas sheath Plus the hard plastic sheath has a little flip up blade sharpener so the machete always stay sharp every time you pull it in or out Just waiting for my Ka-Bar Reinhardt and a 1213 Ka-Bar arriving today or tomorrow.

Hard to argue with what your selling. I hardly live in even a subtropical environment but Love the Tramontina (Lowe's now has the 18" w/ sheath for $16US) and use for light vegetation and go to my modified 12" Ontario machetes for seasoned woods or working with hardwoods or just when I need a HD chopper.

Nice video. Have you tried some parangs? Just wondering how you like them, they look fairly suited for your environment. I live in Australia and found it to be my personal favourite tool for this environment. The mini douku parang to be precise. I am not saying they are better, I am just wondering how they would work on your homestead. Actually find it funny on how many forums people bash each other about 'my axe is better then your machete hands down- no buddy, you have no idea, this is better'- Without considering the different environments and personal preferences and needs...

Holger Göhr I like the kukri, bolo and parang style blade shapes bolo being my favorite and they all work really well in the jungle my environment. I just think for a beginner a Latin style blade shape is the best. Mahalo for watching

Say Heah Gabe, I only a few Machetes, I have a Ontario Military Issue, I also have a Blackie Collins 22" heavy duty Machete with D-Ring handle. I also have a Condor Golok and a Jungle Saber. and a Fox Hitam Golok, I also have a vintage Cold Steel double edge machete. And a Woodsman Pal Premium, I also had a Battle Horse Mad Hatter I had modified, I had a Scandi Grind out on it with the sweet spot being a convex grind, I also had a 90° area put on it, But most all of the spine is rounded. I also had the handle modified to match my Modified Attitude. It's also made in the L6 Steel, Yeah, I had it made like this, so I could also use it as my Summer Long Knife. But my Fav. is my Rodent Rucki, I also put black handle on my Parangatang, I really like it alot better now. I also changed my Potbelly, now the handle is black also. A F. Y. I. The Swabbie and the Zomstro handle fits the Potbelly and the Parangatang. Oh, I also have a B R Bravo Golok. I guess that's it. A couple.,,. p

Brother the only issue I see with that cold steel chete in the states is that theres no way a cop wont consider that a weapon They designed it to be a machete and a weapon while tramontinas are exclusively tools (unsharpened digging tip(

Do you know the difference between the Ontario 6144 and 6145 or co 1-18 ? they all look the same to me...
@JCOwens-zq6fd2 жыл бұрын
My 2 cents would be that it depends on the where's, why's etc. If your in the jungle a longer thinner blade is better. However in in the Eastern US you need a thicker choppy type blade & in the Pac NW you really need an axe. Orange handles are great assuming you dont need to be low vis such as an escape & evade situ & i could go on. My point being there is no 1 tool for every situ imo.
@astrazenica77837 жыл бұрын
The hook on the handle is for getting leverage with your last 2 pinky fingers when you flick the machete. You don't really need to use hammer grip to get a lot of force, you just flick, let machete do the work.
