I was lucky enough to attend GIT in 90 and went to every Scott and Dan Gilbert session I could. It really took my “rock” playing to a different level. Those guys are definitely on a different level.

I was checking out the school. And I heard a jam. I asked counselor. You have a student that good. He goes that scott Henderson. He is a teacher. He goes. Go ahead sit in . He asked me to play. I played heartbreaker. He said. I could sit in as long as was in town. There was only 5 or 6 people. Sitting in. I couldn’t believe it .

My favorite S.H. album - Tore Down House. Beautiful music, incredible musicality - one of the great albums. If you haven't heard it, you have missed some truly great music and guitar playing. Go treat yourself to an emotional journey and a somewhat jaw dropping experience!

Henderson has been my favorite player since the late 80s, and one reason he's never left the top of my list is how he has continued to change and improve over the years, to the point that today he sounds like an entirely different player than he did 40 years ago. And what he plays today is just so self-assured and mature, it sounds like he transcends the guitar and simply speaks the language of music. His vocabulary alone is unbelievably vast. Great lesson, thank you.

Scott plays the blues like no other player in the world. An amalgamation of major and minor pentatonic, straight blues and jazz scales, and lord knows what else. It's like watching the history of every music genre in one lead solo, in one bar of music. Quite amazing, half the notes are out of scale, until the next half throws the last half out of scale, perplexing. It's like the first time you saw Bugs Bunny pitch a baseball, "Watch me paste this pathetic palooka with a powerful, paralyzing, poifect, pachyderma, percussion pitch", just brilliant phrasing.

Yeah, man, Dog Party is RIPPING!! My exposure to Scott came through Dr. Hee, which is difficult to find. I wore that cassette out big time. Then hearing him on Chick Corea's Electric Band album destroyed my brain. Great stuff, Dave!!

West Palm's very own wonder child. When he comes to town every guitar player shows up. Last time I saw him everyone was talking to him in the parking lot after the first set. We were out there so long most people thought the show was over and left. Scott goes, "Oh shit, I gotta do the 2nd set!", and runs in to an empty house. He starts playing with me sitting alone in the front row. After two songs he goes, "I'm not doing this." I say, "C'mon, just one more." Then he says, "No, and I know what you're doing." I say, "What, stealing your licks?", and he goes, "Yeah." Of course he was joking although I did pick up a thing or two. He signed my CD 's and thanked me for coming out to the show. I'll never forget being serenaded by Scott Henderson alone in the front row mere inches from his guitar wizardry at the Orange Door.

Great lesson David. Im a huge Scott Henderson fan, from the first time seeing him jamming in one of the rehearshal rooms at GIT in 1982. Right through all his recordings. I took a lesson last July via Zoom with him. Sometimes amazing musicians are not the best at teaching, for whatever reason. Not the case with Scott. His ability to convey more complex musical ideas and theory to less advanced players is the best. Hes very patient and talks to you at a level with which you can understand the information. Great player, composer, teacher...and fckin funny (had a few laffs at the end of the lesson)

Intense stuff! I think I might have borrowed the Dog Party CD back in the mid 90s from my friend Per Nilsson (Scar Symmetry etc), who went to the same high school as me. I definitely listened to it on his recommendation. But it was a bit to advanced for me back then. I’ll go back to it for sure!

Great lesson, love Scott Henderson’s playing! I have Tore Down House and Well to the Bone, now I gotta get Dog Party! The third lick you did with the unison playing reminded me of a lick from a Shawn Tubbs pedal demo (Sinvertek distortion pedal, video from July 2022). It’s one of my all-time favorite guitar licks, at about 1:04 in the video, it’d be great if you could check it out and maybe put together a lesson on it and some of his other licks.

Cool. I saw them twice at Toad's place in CT. in early 90's. Willis was a bad ass, but he definitely didn't steal the show. The band was sick - Covington on drums, Kinsey on keys and Willis. I agree they definitely pushed each other
