I'm about to change mine. We shut the water off for a week when we went on vacation and when we returned the valve throbbed loudly while I was taking a shower. I bought a gauge and found the pressure at 80 PSI and it could not be adjusted lower no matter which way I turned the screw. The throbbing has now stopped but I will change it since the house is about 15 years old and I want to try a lower setting then 80 PSI. Mine uses the exact one you show in this video and Amazon right now has it for $66 versus $104 at the big orange box store. Please don't let the critical commenter cause you to change things too much. I appreciate that you don't have ridiculously loud and annoying music in your intro and that you talk at a pace where I don't have to slow the video down to catch the dialogue. Thank you. Edit: I Just changed the valve successfully and it's down to 50 PSI as set at the factory. There was quite a bit of water left in the system after shutting the water and opening up a couple of faucets. I was a little worried that the shutoff valve was not working but the water stopped after a while. I had to re-tighten the nut on the pressure valve and get a bucket to catch the water, then I loosened the nut gradually until the water completely stopped. The new valve comes with only one o-ring that I put on the outlet side of the valve and the screen filter that was on the inlet side of the old valve was reused. Hope this helps someone in the future.

Thanks Renaldo. I recently turned off the water supply that has a 1/4 turn valve during a water hose replacement at the sink. Since turning it back on, there is a noticeable reduction in flow and/or pressure throughout the home. I do not have a gauge yet, but wondering if the PRV could be the culprit. I have a question, so my water pressure is good until I flush the toilet then I lose water pressure in the kitchen. Or if I turn my washer machine on i cant take a shower because the pressure drops tremendously. Would that be a bad PRV? Or would it be something else?
@PPG19672 жыл бұрын
So, I'm not a plumber, however I've spoken to a couple of friends that are plumbers and they said it could be a blockage in your supply line or a leak somewhere. They also stated that 9 times out of 10, it'll probably be your PRV. Do you have a pressure gauge to check your pressure?
@Manning2k232 жыл бұрын
@@PPG1967 no I dont after watching your video I plan on getting one tomorrow, but not sure what im looking for. So if I hook the pressure gauge up to the washing machine and then flush the toilet if it drops what should I look for?

Attach the gauge to the cold water pipe at the washing machine box. After you attach the gauge open up the cold water valve at the box all the way. Don't turn on or flush any fixtures. Read the pressure gauge, if it's lower than 35psi that's considered low water pressure. Normal water pressure is between 40 - 80 psi. If it's below 35psi it's probably a bad PRV.

Thanks, great content! I reduced the pressure on my pressure reducing valve. Unlike the “how to” video published by watts, where only a few counterclockwise turns on the bolt resulted in a significant change in pressure, I nearly removed the bolt and noticed zero change in pressure on the gauge hooked to the hose bib, and I did verify that the hose bib is downstream of the pressure reducing valve. I did however note a decrease in the faucet pressure accompanied by a high pitched whistle. A couple things perplex me. Why the new gauge is not detecting a change in pressure. It certainly dips and fluctuates in real time when the faucets are in operation or the toilet flushes, but the pressure reducing valve made no difference in the reading, so maybe the pressure reducing valve needs to be replaced? Yet, why is there a decrease in the faucet pressure? 2. What’s up with the high pitched whistle?

My house is only 2 years old and has had great water pressure until recently it started having issues. It is fine unless more than one place is demanding water at a time. It doesn't matter if it's hot or cold or hot much the second source is needing. It's never been a problem before now. We have always been able to use multiple sources at once no matter which ones the washing machine and dishwasher or shower it didn't make any difference. However, now it turns to a trickle at both locations if i say have the sink running and flush the toilet.

Intro's IMHO should be 5-15 sec max. So would agree on shortening that. You can keep the one you have and just fasten the pace of it if you want. The longer the video the harder it would be to skip past the intro. "Umm's" are natural for people doing public speaking which in a way is what you are doing. As far as fixing those if you are trying to have a legitimate money making channel that might be something to work on. If you are just trying to help and share content people should get over that. I enjoyed the video and found it to be useful. If you do grow big enough I would say just hire someone to edit the video for you. Someone who does video editing would be able to remove those way easier then most of us trying to no longer say "Umm" or the other filler words. That takes a LOT of time and practice to get rid of. The sound and video quality were great and things that I think are way more important then human behavior type stuff. Thanks also for providing a sample valve and gauge and providing rough cost of each as well! Good stuff!

I finally just increased the adjustment screw and it seemed to have solved the issue. Also I had to stop using my ice maker because it kept dripping and building up of ice. I thought it was my solenoid on my fridge not opening and closing. Turns out when I increased the pressure it solved that issue as well. I live in a mobile home and since 1974 it had no pressure regulator valve. The only reason I put one in was because of frozen busted pipes last winter. But I solved that issue as well. I got smart and invested in some heat trace for the pipes. Now when it freezes I just go into my washroom and throw 2 switches and bam no more worries about frozen pipes. You would think that would be in the electrical supply but to my surprise it was in plumbing. If you go spend a good half a day in Lowes you be surprised at what you can find.
