Wow! I held my breath as you began to apply the gold glaze because I thought the black red and white were so strikingly strong and absolutely stunning. Nonetheless, it was intriguing to see how delightful they all became as you mellowed them down with the glaze. Simply Divine! Thank you for sharing.

For me the hardest part is calming with white or other neutrals. I set marks and colors I love but are mess. This video is especially good and breaking down great ways to finish.

The white/quieting down is challenging for sure. I am still working to push myself to quiet things down even more to have a clearer focal point. It’s definitely a process. We just need to keep creating - the more we make, the better we’ll get! ❤️

I’m watching this a year after it posted. How very timely for me to come across it now. I’ve been exploring abstraction more and more and always feel like I’m an imposter. Lately, I am feeling stuck. About two years ago, I cut up work I’d done on a large sheet. Those pieces sit aside somewhere in my studio waiting to be pushed further or turned into collage papers. It’s the other three steps that followed in your video which I needed to see. The white, the black and the glaze. (And I did remember the baby wipes from another of your videos.) I will try these additional steps on my very next piece! There was an issue raised while you were making marks. My painting routine typically covers all the "white" ground. To see you add white back in is the breakthrough I need. Thanks for these videos. They’re a great help.

What's the secret to making marks that look good, like yours. Why do mine look ugly? Is it practice? Talent/instinct? The motions used? Or ?......
@jackieschomburgart Жыл бұрын
It’s repetition. Quantity is more important than quality when it comes to developing your own style. Make as much art as you can, as often as you can and your own unique marks will make themselves apparent to you ❤️

Thanks for posting this. FYI, for me it was waaaaay too speedy to watch comfortably! I had to slow it down quite a bit to be able to watch, which makes the voiceover really strange. What about showing some of the process in regular time, then speed up for the rest? In any case, appreciate it.
@jackieschomburgart2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback, Mary ☺️ I edited the video before I figured out how to insert the timestamp links into the description. I wanted to get to the point of the video quickly (the 3 steps), but I also wanted to include the start-to-finish process because I know how much I like watching other artists create. So I sped up the first few minutes to super speed to try to have the process available to those who liked it but to get to the point faster for others. Perhaps it’s best to “mute” when you slow it down 😆 Next time I’ll put the timestamp links in from the beginning so people can skip around AND keep the time lapse to a normal speed. Thanks for watching! ❤️

@marykarmengonzalez94689 ай бұрын
"But why so small? What do you do with them? Do you sell such small pieces?" Greetings
@jackieschomburgart9 ай бұрын
Why not? 🤗 I could sell them in small frames, or in large frames with large matting, or make them into cards to send friends, or……? Sometimes I’ll bring some small paper art matted to a standard sized frame to art fairs and they help make art affordable for people who want to own something original but can’t afford something huge. Lots of possibilities ❤️

As with the previous comment your vids are always a delight. I enjoy your wry approach to both art and life. I have encountered this sort of reduction/addition approach before, tho yours is a variant that i want to try out and as with amherst88 i will revisit to get the steps. It never ceases to amaze me how much better things are cut down in an arbitrary fashion and how black does wonders! Ideas for actual pictures emerge that you would never have thought of. Leastways I wouldn't, but i am not sure that says much! Thanks. Best R
@jackieschomburgart2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your thoughtful words, Robert - I really appreciate it ❤️ A few years ago, I realized that I had assumed that painters knew exactly what they wanted the end result to look like and they had the skill and patience to achieve their exact desired image. What I now know to be true is that many artists (myself included) have no idea what the end result will be and work in response to what they see on the canvas as they go. I find it’s much more fun to create if I get to discover the image as it unfolds than to try to recreate something that I won’t ever quite be able to achieve. ☺️ Once I realized that, it was a game changer for me. The pressure came off and the ability to play came back. Cheers to discovering all of the creativity as it unfolds!
