I personally think one of the hardest things to do in sewing is up cycling. Something can be made from old garments and/or scraps but to make it look nice and purposeful is very difficult. By far you are the best sewist at accomplishing this. It is always enjoyable to watch your videos.

I do re-watch your videos from time to time. Today, I thought about how you made lace - which I typically avoid in garments - look so comfortable to wear. I always learn something new or have a new perspective when I watch your videos. As I learn from you, I have a different perspective when I return back again.

I agree about lace, Alina. I really like eyelet which is kind of lace and embroidery at the same time. I recently made a great top from some black eyelet I had been saving and it is great, has a border for the bottom and is cool for my very, very hot Texas summer.

They all look great, but I really liked the white top with black lace. If you're going to do more block printing I'd recommend a brayer or rubber roller for applying your paint. Easy to see that your little one loves her swishy top!

FYI I have used straight up acrylic paint on fabric for costuming which is then machine washed all the time. The thicker the paint is the more it will crack eventually but if you use just a wee bit or spray paint.

Love your upcycles! What is "fabric medium"? I have some Indian block printing stamps that I got in India many years ago that I would love to be able to use in garment making. What dyes can be used this way? Thank you for all your great videos!

Fabric medium is a substance that is added to acrylic paint to make it adhere to cloth fibers.

Well done! Help me out the the myths of sewing. I was told that the seams made by a serger aren’t strong enough to hold a garment together. I also believe this because serger thread looks so fragile, linty & full of knots. Will you please discuss this issue being that you actually serger your project. I appreciate the video you are sharing with us, in order for to become efficient seamstress. Thank you as always!
@ThoughtfulCreativity Жыл бұрын
Hello there :) totally a myth, I often find that people in the sewing community are very set in their ways, sometimes without rhyme or reason. But in this case it depends on what and how you are using your serger seam. Don't forget that when you are serging you are using a 3,4 or sometimes even 5-6 thread overlock seam. This seam is also stretchy. This makes for a great construction seam for knits. Take a look at your store bought t-shirts - they are all made with serger. I have made sweatpants and t shirts years ago on a serger that I wear and wash every week, the fabric by now has faded, but the seams don't show any wear or tear, I don't even think about it. Now when you do a woven project, first a straight stitch on a sewing machine and then a serger to finish the edges is the best way to go, because when we stretch knit garment - serger seams stretches with it, when we stretch woven garment - then the thread is more likely to pop as there is no give. I make all clothes for my daughter, since she was a baby, and you know how rough kids can be with clothes while playing and I make mostly knits for her as they are softer and more comfy than wovens, that also means that I make them almost entirely on a serger - nothing has ever fallen apart, and those clothes get a lot of wear and tear and lots of washing. Serger thread can also be of different quality.I hope hearing my perspective helps you :)
