I do wear green....and I believe in genrously heaping out threats to my family if they do not. My pinchers cannot discriminate. My husband loves corned beef and cabbage. However, when the kids were small they werent big in traditional corned beef and cabbage with carrots and potatoes. So we made a tradition over finding recipes that use corned beef and cabbage in more creative ways. Our top favs over the years were corned beef and cabbage tacos, corned beef and cabbage egg rolls ans lastly a corned beef and cabbage pizza that used a garlic sauce in place of red sauce. Those were excellent. When they were small I also had a fun time preparing rainbow breakfasts and lunches. We would talk about how it isnt really about leprechauns and gold but forgiving those that persecute you and sharing the gospel. With the lost. I havent even thought about what im making this year. Because it kind of crept up on me. Maybe your stew.

In our home, we make New England Boiled Dinner, consisting of a corned beef brisket, carrots, potatoes, onions, parsnips, turnips, and Cabbage. I season it all with the spice packet that comes with the beef. I am from New England, but have moved to the glorious South. I am keeping that dinner tradition alive, though!

Hahahahaha Steven is sooo funny. My husband is called Patrick, his family are Irish, so of course we celebrate St. Patricks day, we don't necessarily cook anything different but we do make poundies (mashed potato with sliced green onions in). My son with his wife and my grandson are heading to New York this weekend for the St. Patricks Day Parade. My grandson just turned 18, he's disabled and thats what he wanted to do for his birthday. So I'm (with Patrick) going over to their house to spend it with their other 3 children. He's so excited. Happy St. Patricks day when it comes. Thanks for sharing the wonderful recipes xxx

Hi Mandy. Im irish and used to live in the US and I think you did a great job on the stew and the soda bread. I have a few tips. Its more traditional to used a fluffy style potato in the stew. Cut them really big, and the outsides disintegrate a bit, making the stew thicker, but keeping the insides from over cooking. I usually make the soda bread from wholewheat flour, but all purpose flour is fine too.The cross should be cut from side to side halfway down into the bread. I think its to speed up the cooking, especially with wholewheat. But it also makes it easy to tear the bread into 4 chunks which is very traditional. Also I never baste while its cooking, as i dont think its neccessary. You can add nearly anything to soda bread to flavour it...savoury (cheese, leeks and herbs) or sweet (dried fruit). Caraway seeds are also a nice touch in the bread. Happy St Paddy's Day.

It's a cross on top not an x And I love it with caraway seats inside

I actually have a tattoo with green in it now to keep myself safe! When I was little my dad would wait for us to get up in the morning and if our nightgowns (yes, I'm old enough for nightgowns) didn't have green on them he would pinch us! So eventually I got myself a triquetra tattoo with green highlights so no matter what my dad can't pinch me! (He's 80 and still tries to get me!) :D Some of my favorite memories with my dad!

Mandy ... in total I have 5 guys. My husband and our 4 sons. All about 2 years apart. Not many leftovers in our house. A typical dinner when they were younger teenagers was 6 chicken thighs, + 6 chicken legs + 5 lbs mashed potatoes + 2 lbs corn. We went through about 8 gallons of milk per week (and they weren't allowed to just arbitrarily drink milk - that was breakfast and dinner). They're all grown and out of the house. I can't tell you how hard it was to cook for only 2 people lol. We have now been blessed with 2 grandsons. Apparently, we can only produce boys. :) Love your channel/videos. I look forward to them every week. Keep up the good work. God bless you and your beautiful family.

My mom put Meringue on most of her pies. Yes, it's made with whipped egg whites and sugar. After cooking it was so fluffy and lite and it created some golden drops on it, not sure if it was the sugar or not. My dad famously called Meringue "calf slobers". We have called it that our whole life.

Easiest way to make soda bread is with the dough hook on your kitchen aid mixer. The other is to grease and flour a round cake pan. Cut a deep cross in your bread to prevent it from cracking on the side. Traditionally you add raisins that have been warmed and soaked in Irish whiskey. This is a great bread to start with in your baking journey. In my house we have a traditional boil with a corned beef brisket, carrots and potatoes, along with soda bread served with slabs of butter. Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Hi Mandy! And family 😊! You put the x on top for 2 reasons . 1. Steam builds inside of the bread as it is baking. So it will sometimes cause your bread to have a "blow out" if you don't make a way for the steam to escape. Reason 2 and the old fashioned reason is to get the devil out. In this case you make a cross on your loaf on top!

I always wear green on St. Patrick's Day. I often wear green all month leading up to the big day! We get a Wagyu cut corned beef brisket from Costco. I cook it in the slow cooker. I boil the red potatoes and cabbage separately from the meat too, as I think they get too salty with the meat. I serve with biscuits. I love yellow mustard on my corned beef. To use up leftovers, I usually make a hash with eggs and potatoes and corned beef, and we make reuben sandwiches. Then we are done! And don't want corned beef for another year!

The pie that Steven couldn't figure out looked so yummy and had me laughing out so loud that I got shushed! Another great video! "May the road always rise to meet you, may the wind always be at your back and may you be half an hour in heaven before the divil even knows you're dead!"--my Mum's favourite saying on St. Paddy's Day! Miss her so much these past 5 years. Her Irish Soda Bread and Scones were the best! Blessings, Mandy, Steve, Cole and Gracie-Lou 😊❤

The Irish were Christians the cross was to bless the bread as well helps it cook. The 4 dashes is to let the devil out ,but in later years it was called fairies. I have not finished watching yet but my recipe on calls for 4 ingredients. 4 c flour, 2 c buttermilk, 1 1/2 t soda & 1 t salt Bake 425 for 15 minutes if the bread falls apart it is most likely to much flour or not enough milk. You actually add half the milk and gradually add the rest.

Got a big laugh at the end. Steven's taste buds are really out of whack! LOL With a name like mine, it's a good bet that my heritage is Irish - my maternal grandfather was born there and the story goes, my Mom named me Colleen because she wanted me to be the apple of his eye. As far as your question about my Irish traditions .... yes, I *do* wear green on St. Patrick's day and the last few years, I've made "Shamrock Milkshhake Cupcakes" (really only a white cupcake with a mint icing). The cupcakes are in deference to my son who loves McDonald's Shamrock Shakes. 😊 💚☘☘

Quite an entertaining video. You two at your finest. I'm an old lady but yes, when I was in school and you didn't wear green you were certainly going to be pinched. I have made for St. Patrick's Day an Irish chicken stew, colcannon and Irish soda bread. That was several years back when my health was better. It was so very good. May the luck of the Irish shine on you!!!!

St Patrick's Day is a special day, it's my Birthday. We usually have Fried or steamed Cabbage with onion. Then we make Irish meatballs with Brown Cream gravy which includes carrots and potatoes cut into wedges to the meatballs and gravy and placed in the oven to finish cooking. I cut a fresh green Cobb salad. Then Closer to Suppertime I stir up Cornbread and fry them up into cornbread cakes. Looking forward to Sunday, this is one of my favorite meals. I also will prepare lime jello salad (dessert) with cottage cheese, pineapple & whipped cream. Let the dish set up. Serve. Yum.

My husband is Irish/American. Yes indeed. I am American. I am a huge fan of Guinness Irish Stew. They serve it in the pubs exactly as you made it. All Irish food is delicious and wholesome. Try Cabbage and Potato dish called Colcannon. Absolutely a family favorite. You and Steven are too funny. Priceless.
