This is great however if all students are working on the same thing , then what’s the purpose of having stations ?

HI there! Great question! When you begin to implement stations, you want all of your students to work on the same thing so that you can allow them to practice the assignment, practice actually being physically in the station, and nip any behavior issues. Allow students to practice for a bit (this will depend on your class, how much time you'll need). Then you'll add in another assignment so you will have two assignments and allow students to "switch" and practice moving through stations, practice both assignments, and again handle behaviors. It's really important for students to practice the assignment because we want our students to be independent with the assignment SO THAT we can eventually be able to pull students into our own small group (at the teacher table) - but this cannot happen if students have a ton of questions about the assignment and/or are misbehaving

@@PrealgebraTeachers Thanks . To make sure I understand, you gradually add in new stations ? For example, if I have a class with 32 students , I can have the stations set up and have them practice switching to the next station after 10-15 minutes ? It’s like a dry run of the station except everyone is doing the same thing ? After , they start to get the hang of it , then I can have different students doing different things ?

@@stacyr4768 i would allow my class at least one full day to practice the same activity in the same station. I think 10-15 mins is not enough time. I actually go through the process very thoroughly with lots of visuals in our free training. I show you how to get started, how to structure your stations (depending on if you have 45 minute or 90 minute classes), what your stations can be, and more. The training is free if you want to sign up: bit.ly/Math station straining
