What I find working for me (as well as the tips given in the video) was to actually do the motion very fast and coming to a full stop at ball contact after the usage of wrist and the pinch mentioned in the video. Doing the motion more quickly increases the spin dramatically, however it will take a lot of practise. Beware this is only what I've discovered recently, and might not work for everyone. Very good tips, guys, it really helped my development for creating heavier backspin.

A few things to improve this is to get lower on the serve - the contact point closer to the table. Also angle the bat past horizontal and actually brush diagonally upwards rather than straight across. Bear in mind the rubbers you have have a big impact on the amount of spin you can generate. Also some balls are too smooth and they just slide across the table and you will not see the ball coming back to you as much.
@Jaksi-a3 жыл бұрын
For some reason this is the serve I'm doing as a beginner all naturally. I do the spin long version you talk about though because I'm new, but this will help me improve it I hope. Gotta hit it lower and have my bat more flat.

I am training the ghost serve, but I am adapting the way to hold the racket. I hold the racket in the same way as during the game, so that I don't run the risk of forgetting to change the racket's grip after the serve and gain a fraction of a second in thinking for the next hit on the ball.
@Shirish2553 жыл бұрын
Most helpful for beginners, as explained in very detail.
@blueckaym2 жыл бұрын
Good video! I'm wondering though, how much distance can the ball be in contact with the racket when serving this way? Ie how long does it have to receive that spin from the flick of the racket? (given of course that the racket is completely flat, so no forward angle accelerates the bounce from the racket) I'm thinking, if the ball is in contact with the racket only a short amount of time (and distance on the racket's surface) then it would receive even more spin if you hit it with the far end of the racket (ie opposite of the handle). As with every rotation (and the flick of the racket is basically rotation) the points further from the axis of rotation travel faster than points closer to it, ie will receive more spin in shorter time. It'll be a bit trickier to get used to it, but as a serve (ie static situation) you should be able to train it as much as you want until you get it perfect.

6:17 I think it's a urban legend that the ball needs so much space to get the friction on the rubber. I've heard this statement many times, but no prove about that. The ball doesn't travel along the rubber when contacting it. The keypoint for a bigger spin is the distance from the pivot point, which in this case is the elbow. In this same video, at slomo you can see that the contact is not where it's advised and, nevertheless, the ball has a lot of backspin.
