Also, incest may only be brought attention to if it was the immediate family, so it might not be considered incest between them or it very well may. Only season 8 will tell.

The best players Tyrion and Little finger always ask you or themselves what do you want and give that to you or make you think that you get it. Jon never does it, he came for asking sy without offering anything. He acts like he deserves to get it but not because of entitlement but because he believes so much in his fight. (This is self boundary as well in contrast to the narcistic entitlement which Daario, all the bad boys and model girls have in real life.) Brilliant that even when Tyrion helps him he doesnt tell Jon to give sy minor to the queen but advices him to ask sy minor. Like the Imp doesnt try to change Jon's paradigm and make the king think, behave, and be like himself (like most of us do it in real life) but understand how he works and give him what he wants in Jon's own paradigm.

I don’t think Jon Snow is always the sharpest blade in the drawer, but he is a good man. He did not, however, have the right to turn the North over to Daenerys. He was acclaimed The King in the North by the leaders of the Northern houses, he didn’t become their owner. Kingship by acclamation is a “first among equals” kingship. Jon could have bent his OWN knee to Daenerys, but in doing so without the agreement of his countrymen, he forfeited his right to lead them. (Gorgeous, dragons, armies....I get it. Having great looks can give you a huge influence over other people, depending on the circumstances.) The North has no reason to respect her name, indeed quite the opposite; her father was an insane tyrant. She has done nothing to earn the respect of The North; they don’t even know her. Has she learnt anything from knowing the blow she inflicted on Jon’s best friend by killing his brother and father - not in battle (which is normal and expected) - but when they were her prisoners? I know there is no Geneva Convention in Westeros, but killing disarmed prisoners is a war crime. I think the North and the South should be separate kingdoms. That way they could become allies instead of always suffering from infighting.

Interesting analysis, but I thnk you missed another important element. Dany is extremely taken with the "legend" of her older brother Rhaegar - and became even more intrigued with him based on the stories Ser Barristan Selmy shared with her - especially when he told her that for all his fame as a soldier, he never liked killing - he loved to sing and play for the people. There is a moment early in season 7 when she says "everyone enjoys what they're good at" and Jon responds "not me" - referencing how little he enjoys battle and how much he'd rather do virtually anything other than kill. I think that small moment, along with everything else she'd seen about his commitment to his people, his honesty, his bravery, and the obvious loyalty he engenders in his followers, makes her think of her much admired older brother, and what she thinks is best in a man.

George rr martin defintiely thinks it out this far... you think so many plot lines influencing each other and still making sense and working out greatly at most just develop by starting to write whatever and then adjusting as you like over time? nope. thats why 99% of tv shows this day turn to shit after a few seasons because nobody thought it through from the beginning, and they are usually soooo much less complicated then the story of game of thrones... grrm thought this through in detail before starting to write even the first book and there are many minor details in earlier seasons that become more important later... so why not this detail?

Huy Nguyen Honestly even if you think D&D are bad (which I don't agree with but I understand), they work on the show all year long... They read the books and they made the show. They probably know a good part of the script by heart. So I do think they tought at least a bit about that. ^^

7:00 I think it's largely because Jon is not impressed by her. Many of her other lovers are impressed by her and try to woo her by Jon does not. @MrMarinus185 жыл бұрын
@Artoria Pendragon He respects her but is not impressed by her, that's an important distinction. Not respecting Daenerys after what she has already accomplished is just boneheaded. I think one thing that makes Jon more desirable is that he doesn't seem desperate like the way Jorah does or the way Dario did when Dany told him she's leaving him. One reason behind Jon's attitude being the way it is, is that he prioritizes his work, his mission(to save north from white walkers) more so than he does his own feelings of attraction or pretty much anything else. He's a driven guy, to him everything is below his mission. Now, THAT on its own, often times, is enough to make a person desirable but add to that the fact that his goal is self-less or it involves saving lives amplifies attraction to a next level.

As a result, I see no problem with overlooking the possible consequences of their shared DNA, just to enjoy the sweetness of their chemistry. It's fiction. Enjoy it however you like.

no, all that shows is that the suspension of disbelief has been accomplished. This is a world where people, Targaryens at least, can commit incest and suffer none of the bad consequences that would happen in real life. That is one of the rules of this world. You have entered that world in your mind, so the relationship looks different to you than it would if it existed in the real world. There's nothing wrong with that. If you start becoming obsessed with incestuous fanfiction, *then* you should probably see a shrink.

The very first lesson we learn in GOT was "He who passes the sentence should swing the sword". Daenerys never does this but passes the most sentences throughout the 8 seasons, always her killing done by other people or dragons. "They can live in my new world or die in their old one". The whole show is about power and who should have it. Targaryen rule had to come to an end, even though Jon would make a great king, sooner or later history would repeat itself. Now we have a king who knows history itself. A king who showed great wisdom and mercy by forgiving Jaime and Theon, king who holds no grudges. Broken king for a broken kingdom Jon Snow is the Last Targaryen, who continues to be the shield who guards the realms of men (as the 1000th Lord Commander of the Nightswatch). It was about doing the right thing, no matter the cost. In the end he sacrificed even his birthright for peace. He is the Prince who was Promised, "Promise me Ned" The Prince who was promised to be kept safe by Ned. Two tragic Loves he knew,, one of Ice and one of Fire.

@@Shamyrl no, because her relationship with Drogo was different. You have to remember that Daenerys thought she would be with Drogo for the rest of her life, so she just tried her best to make a life for herself with the Dothraki. It wasn’t the path she wanted, but she had no other choice, so Daenerys did her best to care for him, and make him care for and respect her as well. Jon and Daenerys on the other hand, had a more rushed relationship. Their relationship wasn’t a bad build up at all, but D&D definitely could have done better with it. The only reason they really fall for each other in this season is because they have good qualities. But we never really see them talk about their lives - such as the fact that Daenerys is basically fireproof, and how Jon helped the Wildings - which would have really helped cement and further their relationship, and show more of why they fell for each other.

Penny, check your facts. She didn't use a body double. The only part of the contract she changed was that she didn't want to be nude on screen for no reason other than being eye candy for male viewers. So the only times she would go nude is if it was important for the plot. Burning the Dothraki and coming out of flames in the nude was part of the plot so Emilia was filmed naked in the scene and it was a scene of empowerment. Dany has spent her life being exposed to people who appear to be one thing while the whole time bing the complete opposite. Trying to stay one step ahead of two-face deceiving types the whole time and wondering who she can and cannot trust. Even some of those closest to her had betrayed her severely. Jon Snow was about the first openly honest guy she had ever dealt with. For once, she knew exactly where she stood with somebody. Somebody who sticks to their word no matter what...even if it means disadvantaging themselves in the process (At least in the short term)...I guess after all the slimey two-faced types with more faces than Big Ben, this was a massively refreshing change for her....but I definitely agree about caring more about character. Too many guys in particular think that just giving a woman compliments on her looks is all it should take....as if that is all that matters. It is not.
@marysueeasteregg6 жыл бұрын
Yes, but the irony is that Jon is not what he appears, or what he sincerely believes himself to be. Nor is Daenerys. He is not not Ned Stark's bastard son or the half-brother of Bran, Sansa and Arya. Daenerys is not the true heir of the Iron Throne. Their personal identities will be profoundly shaken when they learn the truth.
@TmHudsonArt6 жыл бұрын
But neither of them are actively deceiving each other about that so it's not really relevant here. Jon genuinely believes he is the bastard son of Ned Stark....and Dany has no idea about his true heritage either. It will of course be interesting to see their reactions when they find this stuff out.

I think too many people equate SEXUAL tension with so-called 'chemistry'. They're not tearing each other's clothes off. But loving someone for who they are rather than what they look like or what they can do or their status in life is deeper than just wanting to jump their bones. Jon's only been in love with one other woman and that may have seemed like more chemistry because the actors are actually lovers in real life and of course they bring that to the screen. Also, look how that ended! There's an 'innocence about this relationship that's just sweet. Like teenagers discovering love for the first time but restrained by the environment and they're roles in it. I like 'em fine myself.

"Clovis" is respected just as much as any lord to him, immediately a brother in arms same as all the others m and he's a "lowly bastard". I dont think daene is too far off from that either, although not as close.

Unfortunately the rules of what amounts as incest in Westeros is not covered as well in the tv series as it is in the Books. Only immediate family couplings are considered incest in Westeros. Aunt/Nephew, Uncle/niece, cousin/cousin couplings are considered completely acceptable and half siblings are a bit of a gray area. The only reason the Targaryens got away with marrying brother to sister was because they ruled and had dragons. After the dragons all died it had been going on for so long that the people just sort of accepted it as something Targaryens did. There's also a very interesting theory that Targaryens may be slightly biologically different than other men considering that they have a very long history of miscarriages, still births, and ill pregnancies, but this seems to happen less frequently when the parents are both Targaryen than it does with couples where only one has "The blood of the dragon".

Marijke Cuffe - There's another theory about Tyrion being a Targaryen. His mother died giving birth to him too. Of course, there's a lot more to be said about it other than that. One, being how the Mad King was obsessed with Tyrion's mother. Which could explain why Tywin hated him so much. Not because he was a dwarf, but because he was a different man's son. There's videos that explain it more thoroughly. It sounds far fetched but it could be another interesting twist the writer's could use.

cassidy nova In the novel A Dance with Dragons, Dany becomes quite ill while lost in the Dothraki Sea with Drogon. Though she could have bloody diarrhea, or be suffering from poisoned berries, she also has what seems to be be her "moon blood" -- and it is late, heavy and extra painful. There are a lot of book readers who suspect or even believe she suffered a miscarriage, of a pregnancy which would have been by either Daario or her new husband Hizdahr, which she did not recognize as such because she is so convinced she is sterile. Admittedly the ability to conceive doesn't prove the ability to carry a healthy pregnancy to term, but I agree with you. I don't think she is or has been sterile. Readers and viewers have been tricked by her own mistaken conviction that is the case.

I can see the forming of a teacher - student relationship between them. Danny was becoming more of a megalomaniac, before she finally met someone with strong norms and altruism like Jon. From that point, Danny acted less self-centered and more melancholic like her northern 'teacher'. Jon may learn as well attending negotiations beside Danny (Dragonstone, King's Landing). The dynamic of their relationship is just beautiful.
@alexh39747 жыл бұрын
Also Jon understands the North, Westeoes far better than someone who spent decades in the free cities. Honour and is a reluctant king. he never asked for it, he earned it. She however understands the tricks of power far better, Jon being ned stark 2.0 . So between the two they make competent leader and counter the other flaws. All in alll, good writing... its a fairly clever way off showing the flaws in to characters.

Good video, thx. One thig: Dany somehow lost herself when she arrived to Westeros. She was "Miha", the Breaker of chains, the Choosen queen for her people, and here she is only another wanna be queen, who fight for the power (and Westeros has enough of that kind in the last years) - as Jon said to her at their first meeting. But Jon is the kind of king, Danaerys was before, and want to be again: the chosen king, who lead his people to protect them. And he helps her find herself again. We fall in deep love to one who help us to be ourself, to be what we wanna be.

Actually, Jon never lied to Dany. He just didn’t answer. It’s more a sin of omission. Otherwise, I agree with it all. Sad ending for both, but as a book reader, I can see how it may end in a similar manner. “Sometimes different roads lead to the same castle.” It’s heart-breaking, regardless. Great video 👍🏼

I heard someone say it once that what makes for strong love between two people is shared values, not shared interests. It makes a lot of sense. While I think Daenerys may not have actually shared all the values she saw in Jon - honor, honesty, integrity, concern for innocents, the willingness to risk his own life - she wanted to believe that she did or that she could. Thinking about the declining quality of writing of the last couple seasons (especially the last, holy crap what a poor example of storytelling!), the love story developing between Jon and Daenerys was done really well. This video really highlights it.

I really hoped the love story would be something huge. GRRM himself had hinted in the early parts of shooting the show that the convergence of Jon and Daenerys was "kinda the point of the series". Then we get the last season, and the love story is barely there, and it only serves as something to tear down Daenerys. While I could see Daenerys ending up the way she did, it just didn't work in the short, poorly written last season. With good writing and probably two or three full seasons to develop the love story into something epic (you know, the thing they'd write songs about - songs of Ice and Fire), there could be events that would feasibly bring her down... like say the loss of a child. They foreshadowed Dany being pregnant heavily in the 7th season, and that went nowhere.
@Story2ScreenMovieReviewPodcast5 жыл бұрын
I honestly wish we got just one more season with the two of them. Season 8 focus on the white walkers and knight king while Dany and Jon's love story serves as the backbone of the season. Culminating with them having a child and getting married. Then in season 9 show the decline of Dany into madness. Season 9 would be the Excalibur/Doctor Zhivago of Game of Thrones. The ultimate tragic love story of fantasy films and t.v. shows. Both seasons would also explore the political/social ramifications of the romantic relationship.
