@@joshuahiemenz4857 It's much more than that. Change of perspective can be as simple as walking around an object and seeing parts that were invisible before. You can always say, but they were there already, but it's meaningless if you don't know how to switch to that different perspective. Also in quantum mechanics, interaction changes the outcome, so you don't know the result before you have it. Not all reality is deterministic and you don't just pick a state from a state space.

I was once teased by the school bully for wearing an unfashionable brand of jeans. I said to him, "It's true. I've never really cared much about following fashion trends. I always thought it more the sort of thing girls worry about." It did the trick. 1. I showed him I wasn't hurt or intimidated by his teasing (which leaves a bully without his main weapon) and 2. Left him either having to abandon the fashion concern or acknowledge that he was focussing on something that tends to be more of a concern for girls (which it was and probably still is), thus impugning his masculinity. He walked away without a word.

I remember being with a friend who some class bully got upset at over something petty and ridiculous and felt he needed to assert his image in front of others with violence. He began to charge my friend with raised fist, clearly intending to start fighting. The bully was large and almost certainly a cinch to win the fight. My friend calmly and without any sign of fear said "well, this doesn't bode well for my recent dental work, wish I had put that off for a month." The bully hesitated and laughed, and my friend immediately followed up with, "I'm honestly confused, what are you angry about?" which forced the bully to then talk about it. Within minutes my friend had the bully convinced it was a simple misunderstanding, apologized to the bully for it and diffused the situation entirely, letting the bully walk away with his ego intact (and my friend with his teeth intact). Everyone who witnessed the interaction knew who really "won the fight".

Oh, yes, enjoyed it immensely. For me, it's very important to remain authentic throughout the entire encounter and that can be really difficult for someone like me, who immediately wants to trust an interviewer's best interests are aligned with mine. So, I often stop by ahead of time...for instance if there are dressing rooms, I poke in my head and genuinely let them know how excited I am to meet them...adding (only if I can say so, genuinely) how encounters, like this, when I know I'll walk away better than I was before...those encounters are not guaranteed. I know you have to continue and I wont hold you, but...thanks for having me! I've been able to show respect for their person, their thoughts, their time, my admiration and that I believe the special nature of moments like this change life and therefor the world. It typically works and since I do want to change the world, it's always worth it. In an interview, I find something about their office or self-presentation that I like or aspire to...then apologize for jumping right in using my enthusiasm as an excuse...adding a tiny gesture of embarrassment like taking a deep breathe, as if you're regaining your composure...adjusting my pace and tone to show composed and genuinely, "I'm so happy to be here." then remain silent. I've acknowledged I am in their space (or domain, office aura, etc), their superior power of presence, my excitement and ultimately, my desire to here them speak. These things usually endear the interviewer to me and I do not take advantage of them, afterwards. Any possibility of them attempting to make me uncomfortable later is either abandoned or clearly noticeable in this moment. Then, I'm ready, either way. Love your videos

Brilliant! This is one of my favourite quotes from Game of Thrones "Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armour and it can never be used to hurt you." - Tyrion Lannister (the dwarf), Game of Thrones

"The point is this: whoever controls the options has the power. Your options are rarely exactly what people tell you they are because that's how people have power - they control options. The truth is that everything that is possible changes based on your creativity. Nothing is fixed so you need to be resourceful. You need to not take what other people put on the table as your only choices. When you're faced with the decision that says 'This or That' and you don't like either choice, refuse them both and create a third way. The way out is probably going to be different every time but the realization that your options are never just exactly what people say they are, and that you can break free from the options that are presented to you is going to be valuable for the rest of your life...and that is how you win in the Game of Life!" I needed to have this cleared up or me. Thank you.

I had a talk with my boss. He gave me 2 options: I could work only part time at my current position or search for a job in a different company. I presented him some options that he wasn't happy about so i directed the conversation by listing some of the problems in a different part of the company. He then had the idea (or atleast he thinks its his own) to create a position in the company especially for me to solve the problems using my experience it that field. Saved my butt there 😅
@icawn Жыл бұрын
I was in this situation recently and tried to present other options, because I have other related skills. It became apparant that my boss simply wanted me gone, whether it would be bad for the company or not. I'm not sure how to get out of that one. But, what I did do before losing facility access is have 1on1 conversations with the other managers in the facility and presented the option of contract work. What I really wanted to understand is if the decision to eliminate my position was mutual among managers, or an isolated decision by my boss. It was clearly isolated, which I guess might mean I have the potential to apply for other positions in which my particular manager has no jurisdiction. The only caveat is that, if I do turn in this severance agreement offered, I cannot work for the company for at least 6 months. 15 years of service reduced to nothing.

This video is brilliant and insightful and educational! It is really about social interaction and dealing with people who try to have power over you. It is not about power on a large scale, say, for example, how Apple abuses and mistreats workers at their factories in China.

You actually solved the riddle of how do you get people to pay attention in the world of social media?! You teach a deeper meaning in what they pay attention to. If you had used a real historical figure like Shaka Zulu, they probably never heard of him. But everyone knows Tyrion lannister. It's the "game of thrones ". So well-done, you made it fun. And, most importantly, you got thru to me like I was 5yrs. old. And that's genius. Encore!

Funny enough, # 1 actually works very well for children in a tantrum. The best way to break it is to disrupt the tantrum by changing the site of the tantrum by moving them to another room. It allows them to disassociate with possible triggers or whatever it is that they are holding onto in that state. And then you can begin to talk to them about what their needs are.

I really liked this video. As a doctor i have to deal with this sort of thing every day. Every patient you work with brings a different frame into your office. Most are fine but you get those unruly one that you really have to be in control of the frame. I dont know if you have seen Burn Notice but Michael Weston even takes framing to another level where he uses it to mind control his opponents. Its definitely one of my favorite shows of all times.
@moristhetiger5 жыл бұрын
Basically what you are trying to say is that we should not get carried away by what others are saying, one must use his own mind and one should not be a person who simply gives in to the beliefs and nonsense of others. This was a wonderful video I learnt a lot. I haven't watched Game of thrones but this video was wonderful - I guess I am seeing this video for the second time, last time I watched this video 6-7 months back then I guess I didn't really understand this video or perhaps I was not able to emotionally connect with this video, after a few experiences that I have had over the course of these 6-7 months I think I am able to emotionally connect with this video in a much more deeper way. I think it is very important to apply one' s own mind and to be creative - Let me tell you a story I have a friend of mine and he is a wonderful person but he is has been suffering from depression I guess he is kind of getting out of it now, he thinks a lot - I think thinking a lot is a good thing but then out fear and our lack of confidence we don't really apply the creative things that we think and this is what causes depression - The moment you do what you have being thinking about you will automatically stop overthinking, really - Don't get bogged down by small mistakes I believe that humans are the finest of God' s creations and I think that it is fine if you think you don't believe in God, perhaps deep down you do. Really we are so capable of doing things please don't get bogged down by mistakes. And Thanks a lot for this video I just love this channel.

One of my brothers, John or Paul, tells the story of his confrontation by a school bully. My brother drew a line to separate them and then challenged the large fellow to "Cross that line." When the bully had stepped across, my brother then greeted him with the exclamation, "Now you're on my side!" The confrontation now having been surprisingly reframed, the unprepared bully then simply agreed.

This channel has really helped me to understand myself and some things discussed among friends in the past. In one of those discussions, my best friend since 5th grade discussed that there are three types of power/manipulation 1) Those that are generally disinterested in power and manipulating people, 2) Those that actively seek to control people - whether subtle or not, and 3) Those that are exceptional at controlling people but do not realize it. I am apparently the third - my friend asserts that it is because I had an overbearing mother and I had to outwit her to get my way. I think Tyrion is much the same way - his father was a jerk to him his entire life so he had to learn wit and the ability to maintain power. Yes, he learned about power from books - I have a PhD and Master's in the management sciences and an MA in Sociology, so I also have the booksmarts on power, but it comes naturally. I am the absolute master of coming up with the third options and making myself seem valuable by focusing on what people want. Now that I am cognizant of it, I'm going try some of this stuff out and see if I can't get ahead even more.

Your advise is great, but in order for them t work, you have to have an actual power "leverage". In the case of game of thrones, no matter how smart and well spoken you are, if you were a poor commoner with no good poition, you will be stepped on.

Touche. Great examples and I love how you utilized Tyrion of the hated Lannisters for your video. When I first experienced Tyrion, I did not care much for him(the character) As the series progressed, however, I began to admire and appreciate how he was able to re-frame other people's thinking and intent. Plus he became more honorable as the story unfolded until he was thrust up to the pinnacle of political power. Among so many strong characters in that series, my 2 favorites were him and John Snow. "I'd trust the eyes of an honest man more than I'd trust what everybody knows" Tyrion about John Snow's report of 'White Walkers'.
