3 Surprising Things Authors Should Know about Draft2Digital

Draft2Digital is a book distribution aggregator which means that you can publish your book to their platform and they will get you access to platforms like Kobo, Kindle, Apple Books, Google and so many other places. We like Draft2Digital for it's access to libraries through their Overdrive, Bibliotecha or Hoopla partnerships. Aggregators are useful because they will allow you to upload and manage your book from one place while being able to sell to many. That's the primary benefit but Draft2Digital has some other cool features that are worth noting and that is what Julie Broad of Book Launchers covers in this video.

I've been with D2D as of my last book. I'm amazed at its reach and how much they offer all self-publishers in terms of getting their work out. The sales have been phenomenal there.

A few ideas that I would love to hear about are how to schedule social media marketing, does it help to promote books on Pinterest, and what are the rules for using song lyrics. I heard if you use more than 15 words then you have to pay the artist for that.

Using an aggregator like D2D makes the international sales element a little easier than if you tried to set it up in every country so you just do the paperwork with them. Hi Julie - great video. Another great thing is that they just released info about their proof copy costs this week, right? Now you can choose which shipping speed you need so that you don't have to pay their $30 fee for one expedited proof copy. That's fantastic news. I'm going to be setting up my next book with them soon instead of Ingram. I've heard nothing but horror stories about Ingram and D2D is run by writers for writers, so that's very appealing.

Yes!! I laughed when I saw the news because this video was filmed a couple of weeks ago. It always seems like I launch a video about a platform and then BOOM they make some new announcement which would have been good for the video. :)

I think they have a lot of limits on low content book but because I don't do that (we only do non-fiction content books) I really don't know too much about that.

There's no option at all on D2D for printing internal colour manuscript images. They do it only in black and white ink. This is a huge problem for creating recipe and children's story books.

I didn't know that Draft 2 Digital had coupon codes. Good to know when it comes time to upload my book. I do have a question. I know you focus on nonfiction book marketing. As a fiction writer, I'm always looking for ways to transfer the best practices in each industry into my own marketing. Do you have any resources for us fiction writers whose main focus is on the book and not an outside product or service?

Hi Julie, I've been watching a lot of your you-tube videos and am learning so much. Quick question about pre-launch/book reviews? Do I understand correctly that I am to give my book (digital or paperback thru Draft2Digital) to my book launch team and ask them to put a review on Amazon on the launch day when it goes public? Or do I list the ebook on amazon before the public launch day so that my book launch team can go and leave a review so that reviews are already there on the public launch day? Help!

Yes this is mostly correct. I would probably use a secure site like StoryOrigin or Book Sprout to give the pre-order copy of the book. You would have the book listed for sale but you're giving them a copy through another platform so they can read it and post their review on launch day. My book, Self-Promote and Succeed will help. Hi Julie, great videos, thank you so much. I am in the process of writing an ebook on how to paint with pastels. I would love to use D2D to sell my book but have just found out that they only work in black and white. As my book is all about painting it obviously has many internal coloured pictures. I would love your advice on which distribution platform to use. Thanks again for so many great videos.

is there a functional difference between a Canadian isbn an american isbn with these digital platforms? Does locality matter? I am assuming there must be some region modification of results
