Agreed...I can't stand licorice, yet I love the licorice notes in a tea. Also, I gave some Eastern Beauty to a tea dabbling friend of mine and she said it was like a pudding. 👍🍃💚🍃

My favorite teas to drink when I feel a sugar craving are 1) Honey Duchess (just divine. Decadent with a variety and depth of sweet flavors and aromas). 2) Purple Bud (the AFTERTASTE on this one. I usually don’t think too much about the aftertaste but this one lingers, clean and sweet at once like a cocktail garnished with herbs). 2) Jin Xuan oolongs because that rich milky feeling in the mouth is just so luxurious and dessert-like.

Don, you should check out and source dried monkfruit pieces as a tisane! Natural sweetness! And for anyone who isn't aware, monkfruit is sweetened by a natural antioxidant, and is very sweet per volume compared to sugar. For instance I sweeten 1 cup(US) of Wildwood Black with just 5-7 drops of liquid monkfruit extract, and it adds little to basically no flavor..and an ever so slight different mouth feel than sugar, but well worth it in a hot cuppa. Give a try, I don't think you'll be dissapointed, given what I've described.

Generally you can't go wrong with most oolong's. I think they are also the most forgiving tea since it is difficult to overbrew them. Raw puer's require a much more delicate balance so they don't become too bitter.

I've found for my tastes that if I brew souchong liquor at 86C and steep for about 20 seconds on the first infusion and then start adding 5 seconds for each infusion after that I tend to get a much stronger and sweeter chocolate note with a slight floral aroma.

Yes, my favorite teas are floral oolongs! I love the sweet flavor! I usually have to sweeten roasted oolongs/blacks or earthy tasting teas, and that just feels sacrilegious--especially because I use stevia and not sugar or honey #PreDiabetic). And YES, sweet teas are the best for introducing someone to loose leaf tea. :D

KZbin must be spying on me. This morning I was thinking how my teacup is stained and imagined myself looking up how to clean it. But I just rubbed some vinegar on it and let it rest. Then opened youtube to put on some music, and was recommended a video from your channel about how to clean teacups... A couple hours later, I brew up a new tea I have not tried before... Some sort of silver needle white tea. Smelled a bit funky but the taste comes across as sweet. So I sit down at my computer, open youtube and it recommends this video. It is bad enough when they read my emails to recommend things to me, but now Alexa is spying on me when I am not even online??? And I don't even have an Alexa... Well, I am not sure exactly what tea this is but it is the first silver needle I've tried and it seems sweet to me. It is so soft too, I want to make a bed out of it. I want to rake a pile up and leap in to it... Too damn expensive though...

All the teas are suitable after 3 biscuits, 4 cakes ... you know what I mean.And now without joking. When before the River High I eat something sweet I do not feel his sweetness, but if I drink it without anything sweet before, then it is pretty sweet. Anyway, I rather prefer contrast, a little sweet and then a bitter tea

@chrisw7347

@@aosteklovYou have a right to disagree, but it doesn't mean you are correct. I tried to substantiate my disagreement with reasons. Not everyone can be right. If I say the correct temperature for Oriental Beauty is 47 degrees, I'm not some unique flower entitled to my opinion, I'm just being an idiot who doesn't understand that there are better and worse answers to brewing temperatures.
@aosteklov
@aosteklov 5 жыл бұрын
@@chrisw7347 i was drinking last year almost one kilo of oriental beauty i bought in Taiwan (yes, i actually bought the best one i could find all over the island) and from my experience, over 85 degrees the tea loses a lot of flavor and texture. I like to cold brew it as well.
@chrisw7347
@chrisw7347 5 жыл бұрын
@@aosteklov That's great but, I don't think that changes anything I said. It is possible to like something, and be wrong. Some people like McDonalds , which uses the worst quality meat and products since the goal is "Make a lot of money". To like something and be right, it must follow aesthetic and culinary axioms. It's possible to love some food or drink, and be very confused about liking it. This is why some people can say..."I used to like...but now, I know better." It's possible to be wrong, it's not pure opinion. I guess the compromise I can give you is, it's possible that the tea which you bought is best at 85 degrees. But based on my experiences drinking different OB grades, anything under 90c doesn't express the full the tea, and that includes competition winning grades of tea. It's simply not a green tea.

@@tehninjadude I'm 60 and been buying whole leaf direct from China & India for years. I know it's morally wrong among tea connoisseurs to use sugar in tea but I just can't stop. For some reason I *can* stand to go without sugar in a good baked gunpowder, but that's it. Just a rebel I guess.

@@thzzzt I used to have tea with sugar and then I just started making it right and drinking it on its own and it tasted weird the first like three sessions and then it was really good and natural sweetness came out overtime to the point where I wonder if they'd been adding sugar to my tea cakes in prossesing, but I know they haven't because sugar has all kinds of weird unpleasant aftertastes now If you haven't gone off sugar for a full week or so, try it see how your palate develops.

Well, it's been two years since my original post and I've changed. I was forced to. My doctor told me my blood sugar was in the pre-diabetic range. I wasn't surprised. I like my tea really strong, and because of that, I had to use about 1/4 cup of honey for the 16 oz of tea I drink every day. Doctors haven't proved that sugar causes diabetes, but there is a strong correlation. The tea connoisseurs are right, the sweetener partially masks the taste. I've been drinking unsweetened for about a year now and I'm about 10 lbs lighter. I'd probably go back if there wasn't a price to pay, but I still like the "tea high" I get from drinking. It's not just the caffeine, but probably one of the two other psychoactive compounds in tea that I'm super sensitive to. All in all, it wasn't as difficult to change as I claimed it would be.
