Last November, "the master" Steve Gadd and his band visited a Seattle Jazz club called Jazz Alley for at least 4 nights. I was able to catch 3 shows. It's often said, never meet your heroes. I can honestly say it didn't apply in this case. He's as gentle and kind as in any interview I've seen. He took time out with me to discuss a snare drum that I own which was once his, and then signed the inside of the shell. The visit with his band featuring Jimmy Johnson on bass, Michael Landau on guitar, Walt Fowler on horn, and Kevin Hays on keys was spectacular and they each also took time to meet and greet the audience as we departed. I've been to the mountain and it is good!

I heard Steve live six times and exactly had the same experience. The magic of his playing was outstanding and personally he was very humble and nice.

Had the pleasure of being at the Dearnegate Theatre, Northampton with my good friend Tim Broughton of Provenance Drums. What a truly inspiring performance by Mr Gadd. Couldn't believe my eyes and ears. The whole event was amazing with contributions from Steve White, Ian Palmer and The Pete Caiter Big Band, truly unforgettable.

Great band and great drumming by Mr Gadd. I would have liked to have seen Mark Fletcher and Bob Howard on this gig. Many great UK drummer’s in the country so why not get more of them together…….

I have the perfectio here! I give 1 numerator beat to Steve & the denominator to Ian. Together you can tell me what you think & feel. Currently I have 4 of these fractions that are better rhythms than anything come lately. This realm creates ideas for life not just drums...

Great project, but please don't mix music and speaking. I would love to hear this wonderful music pure because it's worth it. Also like the interviews, but would prefer them separate.

For sure... Me too! The challenge was that this is not a commercial music release but I did however want to put something out. This was the compromise and of course promotion for the event. Thanks for messaging! I will hopefully do another one in the future... 🙏🏼

@@ianpalmerdrums Thank you very much and of course it would be a joy to hear music and speaking separate. 👌🙂

Why in the heck would you insert Steve talking over his performance of "Aja"????? I so wanted to hear him playing at that time instead of talking. You could've done the interview either before or after the music. Just my 2 cents.

You sound great Ian and where can we get a DVD of this performance?
@ianpalmerdrums8 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, It was obviously something that would have been amazing. Unfortunately I am the sole promoter of the gig and take the financial responsibility. The reason for the talking over the playing is partly due to the compromise over releasing the material for all to see and the fact that to release this stuff commercially and just music would be something out of my price range. I am not personally geared up to do that justice. If you know anyone that may be interested in releasing it, that could be a different matter. All the best, Ian

I enjoy the video much , I do thank the Host Drummer bringing on Steve Gadd , One thing I notice is that the Big Band , Everyone is Dress up professionally but many times the Drummers dress down. I know they may have their reasons . It just seem to me that one would always want to be seen in better light . They don't have to be in a suit that is , But Please, A T's shirt ? What happened to Glamor , Stardom and Professionalism ?

Hey let's hear Ian plays drums instead of him talk over his drumming... He seems like a great dude and is a great drummer but let's hear him play cus well he told us.

Hello SM, Thanks for commenting... The concert was a celebration of the music of Buddy Rich who was known as the "World's Greatest Drummer". All the best, Ian

Greatest Drummer? Was Carl Palmer, who holds every open stroke roll record on one head and across the kit of at least 6 drums there? No? Then this a nice group of percussionists but not the best by a long shot.
