Lecture 3 completed summary: Important processes: Isothermal process:constant tempertaure Isobaric:constant pressure Isochoric: volume constant Cyclic process: just remember it will come back to original state. And important thing state fucntions are always zero in cyclic process. Reversible process:a very hypothetical case which will take place very slow in infinite no of small steps. At every instant in reversible process it is in thermodynamic equilibrium. when the path of reversible is reversed system and surroundings will come back to orginal state unlike irreversible process. Irreversible process takes place in fintite no of steps.equilibrum will only exist and current and final state of irreversible process

23:18 pr sir if we keep the m2 mass again after final equilibrium is achieved. Toh Bhi after some time aisa ho sakta h na...ki fir se sys. And surr. Thermal equilibrium me aa jaye...although... We cant say that very initally P,V,T ki jo values the that may not be same now...but if still with new P',V',T' system is back to equilibrium again.then,would you call it reversible or irreversible ??
@Rituraj-ty4qw3 жыл бұрын
Actually initially V increased is the path so reverse path is volume decreased in which it is irreverisble
@amitsingh27823 жыл бұрын
It will be irreversible as during the process of acquiring equibrium there is no equibrium maintained

Sir in the analogy used for irreversible reaction, if the path followed by the system is reversed i. e. if the weight is added back then the system will regain its original state. Then, how are we classifying it as an irreversible process?
@howdadogdoin7298 ай бұрын
I know my reply is very late, but this is for others who might have the same doubt: (Pasted from wikipedia) A system that undergoes an irreversible process may still be capable of returning to its initial state. Because entropy is a state function, the change in entropy of the system is the same whether the process is reversible or irreversible. **However, the impossibility occurs in restoring the environment to its own initial conditions**. An irreversible process increases the total entropy of the system and its surroundings

6:40 Sir, if throughout the process, we give the system 5kJ heat and take 5kJ heat. Then ∆Q=5-5=0kJ but dQ≠0. Is it still considered adiabatic?
@amAn-xe6br4 ай бұрын
i think not? cause by definition there's no heat transfer between system and surrounding. Giving and taking 5kJ energy is considered heat transfer

#askCompetishun Sir as you have mentioned that when irreversible process is reversed, either system or surrounding or both do not get back to their original state but the example that you have stated above if we will put mass m2 on mass m1 eventually system will get back to it's initial state Can you please explain this point .
@11thWasteHogyaYaar Жыл бұрын
did you get an answer?
@existential_turtle Жыл бұрын
Replacing m2 back is a separate process in itself. What he meant was there can never be a spontaneous reversal from the final state back to the initial state.

say me thx later
