Protip if you still want to tie your hair: use smooth-material scrunchies. Silk is the best option, but for vegan-friendly, satin will do. It literally saved my hair and years of frustration

@@TrinaGallo she means it’s the best type for not damaging your hair, which she’s right. obviously straight hair has a hard time being tied up in general, but she’s not talking about the best in regards to how well it holds.

If you have straighter hair, and want to hold up your hair in something stronger than a silk scrunchie, for me the best things to hold it up while being gentle are those big jaw clips or alligator clips. Personally though when I'm running, the second best thing are those thick spiral hair ties. (Yes I know some people hate the way they look and think they're chunky looking, but I love them. I think they look adorable.) They hold up my hair better than everything, BUT if I'm not careful when I use one it can tug a little on my scalp. Once again though, that's if I'm not being careful.

Before swimming in the ocean, I use a spray bottle with filtered water and rosehip oil and soak my hair. I learned this from my mom's hairdresser! I am suffering from some thinning (age and menopause) I've been EXTRA careful about clipping my hair up and I bought silk scrunchies. I've read they help. I hate my hair loose when cooking or cleaning. Thanks for much for this video!

Something that has helped me a bit when it comes to higher pony tails is basically pull half the hair up (half up half down style) and secure it. I've been using the bands with the hooks on the ends to wrap this pony around. Then pull the rest of the hair up around the first pony and secure it, I use a scrunchie for this. It helps take some of the pressure off the front of your hair since a lot of the hair is now being supported more with the first pony then just the scalp. I hope this makes enough sense!

Don’t forget to also rinse your hair with clean water after the pool or frozen ocean 😊 Philip Kingsley has a “swimcap” product to coat the hair but I haven’t tried it yet. He designed it for the US synchronized swim Olympic team!

Hello. I would be careful with what leave in or conditioner you are using when swimming in the ocean. A lot of products we use are harmful to coral reefs (sunscreens to). And though this is fantastic advice to protect your hair, also think about our reefs.❤ I love all your videos thank you for all the information.

Thank you for posting this - the chemicals we use are killing life in the ocean. Sunscreens are the worst, but probably only because they are so widely used. Conditioners may have similar ingredients! Killing the planet isn't beautiful!

For me, a vitamin deficiency really effected my hair, among other things. I had blood testing done to confirm this though. I’ve been on a dr recommended dosage of certain vitamins for two years now and it has definitely helped my hair & other symptoms. But with my hair, I also get regular trims to avoid split ends, I don’t use hot tools on my hair, regular leave in& deep conditioning, & I don’t pull my hair back unless I’m washing my face. All of that together helped a lot

my doctor said a lot of people are finding out that their vitamin D is low. Mine was depleted & had to get a prescription Vit.D3 1.25MG (50000UT) I only have to take it once a week. A few years ago I had to take a lower dose of D3 daily and it took a year to get it up where it should be. not sure if my hair will improve, but I know it has lifted my mood . Dr also told me to go for a walk in the sun for 5minutes a day before I put on sun block.....not sure if other Dr's would agree. Has anyone had a Dr suggest going out without sun block ?
@lindseystein9676
@lindseystein9676 Жыл бұрын
Yes, a lot of women especially have low vitamin D. I live in a state with long winters, so I know that contributes to my deficiency as well. I don’t think sunblock would stop absorption of vitamin d from the sun, but if it’s only 5 minutes without the sunblock I don’t think it would do much damage to your skin. I’d go with your dr recommendations though.

I am a dr and yes their are studies that show that even in Spain a lot of people have vit D deficiency. Usually it s recommended a dose of 1000 International Units per day a la long for everybody. If you had your blood work done and you see your vit d levels are low, than a higher dose will be recommended and you should repeat the blood work after a few months. Also, if you are a vegetarian you definitely must take vit B 12! and maybe even some multivitamins. Also, pay attention at your proteins in a day. You should eat at least 1 gram of protein per kg per day and do not keep restrictive calorie diets (eg a diet with less than 1200 kcal per day)

For those days where you want a high bun / ponytail, I recommend leaving out the front section, tying the rest up, and then in a much looser way adding the front to the rest of the hair so you vary the tension point. My hairline was thinning a little at the corners so I just opted for bangs until they regrow thicker again.

Unfortunately nothing will work since the falling is probably due to low estrogen levels. You should do some blood tests to see what your levels of estrogen are and if your estrogen is low your dr will recommend a substitutive treatment with estrogen which will help a lot with your hair and also will prevent osteoporosis. Also, your thyroid hormones, vit D, calcium, iron may be low so you should test these too.

Hair damage is one thing and these things sound really important for that…but what concerns me is the mention of hair loss and breakage. Hair loss, easily pluckable hairs, and easily breakable hair can be a sign of numerous nutrient and micronutrient deficiencies or digestive/absorption issues. They should be a sign to go get a check up including nutrient testing and potentially to see a nutrition professional. Nutrition changes or other nutrition related interventions may be necessary.

Everyone says that salt water damages your hair. But from my experience, it definitely makes it fall out less. At one time I used to put salt water on my roots and it helped. Another thing I recommend from experience is to regularly get sweaty or hot. It will bring circulation to your scalp and improve your hair loss problem. Another thing I will tell you to do is to supplement with selenium and zinc. It's a game changer. You're welcome.

I actually noticed there being more breakage in my hair when letting it air dry vs in a braid, or I just didn't see it coming. I stopped using elastics a while ago and even rarely use hair bands or scrunchies. Most of the time is braided or a knot with hair pins because a scrunchy or hair tie can't hold the weight (waist length). At the end of braids I use small hair clips.

Those little claw clips are what caused my initial hair loss in my teenage years, in the back of my head, because I used to wear my hair in those clips everyday. It just really pulls on the area where it’s flicked up. Frizzy curly hair is so hot. I guess people always want what they don’t have. As someone with thin straight hair, I love the look of big poofy voluminous hair.

Back in high school I was on the swim team and chlorine absolutely wreaks serious havoc on your hair, I didn’t fully notice it at the time but your hair becomes so insanely dry and there is so much breakage. What I personally do now prior to getting into the pool is wet my hair and apply a basic conditioner, it truly does help. I also do this if I’m wearing a swim cap and having the conditioner on your hair lessens the tug on your hair from the swim cap as well.

We stopped using hair bands in high school because the hairdresser could see the LINE of breakage where the band sits for a ponytail. That was a good hunk of hair cut off and it was scrunchies from then on. Now days I use hair clips and tryyyyyyy not to pull it up tight, but my fine thin hair will spit clips out if they're too big or heavy or loose. boo hair boo!

I learned this about a year ago I wear my hair in a ponytail for work (garden center). I use satin hair ties now in a real loose low pony and if I am wearing a hat I put my hair up in a tie, put it through the hole, and then take the tie out so my hair is loose but contained. I lose very little hair now when I have it up and no pulling.

I have scalp psoriasis which can already lead to hair loss. But I always get ba patches at the spot that guys tend to lose hair, not sure what it is called. And you are not supposed to but I would scratch the scales off. And I started noticing hair loss there and realized it was because my scratching was probably damaging my follicles or whatever with the hair there. I also don't wear ponytails anymore to avoid pulling on my hairline.

I've just switched to braiding my hair (majority of the time) and usually with a scrunchy. My hair still hates me but not due to styling, it's just dry af lol. My hair does feel more dry after swimming in the pool but I do the water rinse so might start doing the leave in conditioner. My hair grows from my scalp just fine, to my knowledge, it's just it's fragile cuz ya gurl don't produce oil.
@oilofolady2363

Mine is dry and very curly so the ends always get in knots and the worst are the single hairs that make a knot on the ends. It feels so annoying and I finally just bought some professional hair cutting shears and whenever I find one I cut it off. The leave in conditioner made some improvement also, but the best improvement is when I apply Castor oil to the ends after washing and every other day. If I keep up with that, I don't find those little knots.

As a 17 year old I use 7 styling products everyday with a diffuser since I style my hair as volumised wavy and brushed back, so I am literally causing hair breakage everyday. Plus I stress, so I am basically destroying my hair constantly. So it's so important that I eat foods high in iron, biotin and niacin (eggs, spinach, avocado, berries, nuts) everyday along with using products for treatements, shampoos, conditioners and hair masks with these ingredients specifically; Rosemary Oil, Peppermint, Tea tree oil, Niacinamide, along with others including Argan Oil (repairs hair damage and follicle production), Jojoba Oil (moisturise hair) , Caster oil (strengths hair, dandruff and dryness), Grapeseed Oil (reduces stress on scalp), Almond oil (protects against hair loss).

I stopped using scrunchies/hair ties a long time ago because they would give me head aches (starting this my hair was approximately your length). Alternatively I found methods to put up my hair in a bun without any tools and I its my go to daily hairstyle to this day (today my hair goes down to my butt). I know this does not work for every hair type but I highly recommend it to everyone to try it. At the very least you learn to get your hair out of your face even when you happen to have no hair tie at hand 🙃

Yea tight ponytail or tight hairstyles like braids are what ppl don’t know that can cause the hair loss. Also the black rubber bands can also pull hair when u take them out, don’t just pull them out u have to careful cut them out. Putting stress on the hair strands or cuticles can be bad so please take care of your hair Cassandra.

I actually heard about how putting your hair up causes hair loss. I never really put my hair up since middle school, since I tried hiding my acne with my hair. I’ve always had so much hair but after giving birth omg first time experiencing this much hair loss. 😵 Hoping it’s temporary because it’s intense~
@mygirldarby
@mygirldarby Жыл бұрын
Hair loss after childbirth is almost always temporary. While you're pregnant you have super high levels of certain hormones that stop the natural shedding process you normally have. We normally lose 50-100 hairs a day, but during pregnancy we barely shed any hair due to high estrogen/progesterone levels. After giving birth those hormone levels drop and all at once you lose all the hair you would have gradually lost through normal shedding over the last 9 months. Your normal hair cycle will usually return to normal within a year or so.

You do not have to use tight hair ties to put hair up, it is actually not very healthy for the hair, if it is long to just let it down and let it tangle and be exposed to all kind of damage, physical, chemical, bacteria, etc. if you do not want to put it up, you can put it in a loose ponytail with a banana clip or loose braid it. Nothing wrong with having it up time to time, on a losser side, still better than just hanging down around all day long
