3 things I do to include my 2 year old in homeschooling: 1. Have them watch a learning show while her sister does computer work. This gives her the feeling that her and her sister are doing the same thing. She is eager to be like her big sister and follows her lead.
2. I provide multiple sensory activities while her sister does hands on activities. You want to find an activity for your younger “student”that is similar to their older siblings. This gets them involved and distracted while you dive more in debt with your older children and what they should be doing.
3. I move the classroom outside. This is beneficial for all kids. Sometimes the fresh air does them good. Also nature is the perfect learning tool. We use twigs, rocks, leaves, and anything else we can find to help in the lesson.
The key is to include them in as much as possible. This allows them to feel included and also build a love for learning. Doing this has excelled my 2 year old in learning. She has learned material that her 5 year old sister is in the process of learning, all because I provided small activities to do next to her sister and included her in as many activities as possible.
Everyone wants to raise little Einstein and sometimes can feel a pressure to do 101 things for their toddlers. Often the pressure makes them forget….they are toddlers. Allow them to be toddlers, and as they progress they will clearly show you their strengths, weaknesses and passions. From there you can build a classroom that they love and look forward to going to.
