Pass this on to someone who’s new to CrossFit or thinking about starting.
CrossFit can change your life, and getting started can be a little intimidating.
Here are three things to remember when you’re starting CrossFit from Certified CrossFit Coach Denise Thomas:
1. Remember your 'why.' 🤔
2. Do a little less than you think you're capable of, at first. ⬇️
3. Ask for help. 🤝
Reminder: You do not need to be fit to start CrossFit. When you begin training, a supportive CrossFit coach will teach you how to move and adjust all workouts to your current fitness level.

I’ve learned through the sessions there is time for everything, just keep on being consistent and seek your goals, always ! We don’t have to perfect all the time :)

I like point 1 and 3, but I don't agree with point 2.. I just started CrossFit last month and finished up the 8 initial personal training sessions I needed before jumping into classes.. and part of the reason I've been excited about Crossfit is BECAUSE I pushed myself and learned I could do more than I thought. Going in half heartedly and saying "I'm a beginner, I can't do this, so I'm not gonna give this my all" is only setting yourself up to make giving half effort a standard for yourself in the future. If I feel like I could have done better and didn't give it my all, I'm not excited, I just feel like I've let myself, my coaches, and my classmates who believed in me down. I see the underlying sentiment of trying to make it so your are excited to try again and fabricating an artificial scenario where you're doing better than the day before to make yourself feel good, but rather than cutting yourself short of possible PRs or proving to yourself you're capable of more than you realize, find something else to excite you. Maybe it's the community you find in class, or the idea of learning to do a hand stand and show off to your friends, or maybe you find someone else to encourage by example. Really it's just re-emphasizing the idea of finding your why. But don't do the disservice to yourself by setting the standard of putting in half effort.

Go 100 % everyday and then tell me how long it takes before you to get chronic tendenosis on shoulders, knees and elbows. It will probably depend on your age, sleep/rest patterns and even diet. But some degrees of injury won't recede, so I would be very careful about going 100 % every day for a sustained period of time. For a person who's 36 years old and tries to be realistic I will tell you I push a LOT. But my mentality is that I would like to do this for many years to come, so I respect my limits and try to take care of the machinery, by understanding and respecting as much as possible rule number 2. Now, if you are like 20 you and wish to go 120% everyday and possibly take testosterone or HGH and other anabolic drugs to compete at peak level, then you would be in a whole different path, and that decision is repectable and 100% up to you.

@@Ucho469 Okay, that makes a TON of sense, thanks for your response here! Framing it that way, it sounds a lot more like a playing the long game mindset and I 100% agree on not pushing yourself past your limit to the point where you injure yourself or burn out. So I guess rather, I'm thinking here about people who are absolute beginners who are still unsure of themselves and just starting out. I feel like initial wins and excitements are crucial to keeping someone invested in a new practice in the long haul, especially something like fitness that is so hard to get into for many people. So I just feel concerned that going in to a practice telling yourself not to take it seriously can cause some people to miss out on potentially getting hooked on fitness. And I do want to clarify, my thoughts are coming more from a mental state of mind place vs. physically pushing your body to its limit. If someone feels they can't go further without injury, they should definitely stop, but they shouldn't let that affect their mind or drive. Thanks again for your points though, I agree with them for sure, and that wasn't at all what I was understanding from the video. 😅

I've been doing crossfit 3 times a week for 6 months and feel like I'm still struggling nutrition wise... eating a lot gives me a lot of energy but isn't burning the fat on top of the muscle (I think? I can't tell). Eating too little gives me no energy for the WODs. It's tricky!

I've found this. I've previously dropped fat quickly through diet and regular gym. But it's harder to balance your calories for fat loss when doing 3x a week. Its just trial and error for me ATM.
