I love this video. I used to dream about owning an Indian Ringneck. But, the more I learned about them I came to realize they aren’t for me. I still look at them longingly. But, it would be like falling in love with the wrong person. So, I admire from afar.😊

Indian ringnecks are the best. The challenge they give you is the most rewarding of them all when you got to tame them, Call and they fly to you... You just need tons of time and strategies. And remember if you want them as a pet and create a stong bond, get the opposite gender.

I think my Indian Ringneck is a major exception to most peoples experience with Indian Ringneck’s, he is so bonded to me to the point he wants to feed me( very much discouraged and no longer does) and follows me everywhere, sleeps on me, gives me kisses, comes when called, will eat from my hand/palm, I can also pat him and give him kisses I can also preen him and do his nails. He’s so bonded to me that I think he would get aggressive towards other Birds and he doesn’t appear to be interested in other Birds. Thoughts on that?

My Ringneck Floyd wants to eat what I am eating. He sways side to side and bounces up and down. He gives me kisses and wants to be on me. My Superb Parrot I have had just 1 month and he is kind of scared. He is just starting to explore a little. My Ringneck likes my Superb and has started to mimic one of his sounds, but my Superb Gem tolerates my ringneck and will only let him get so close. It will take time, which is fine as long as they can hang in the same room.

We have 3 IRN, it's been 3 months and one of my males landed on my shoulder for the first time. They are very interested in me two will take food from my hand. I will continue to be patient with them. They no longer scream at us when we go by them. They live in our lives area wake up with the sun take a nap then make some noise take a nap then make noise during the evening. I do separate the smaller of the 2 males when we aren't home. We live in an apartment near the street and can barely hear them with the door closed. Our neighbors have young children crying at all hour and have not complained to us about the noise.

Hi! I have a male cobalt Indian Ringneck, and Piper is Awesome! I got him as a baby and while he was still on formula and before I brought him home, I visited him and held him just about every other day. I wanted him to get used to my voice and my smell and I just wanted to bond with him as early as possible. I knew that I wanted to have a very close relationship with him...thus knew I was going to have to put in the time and effort. I have him in an area of my home where he gets lots of interaction. I leave him out most of the day...especially when I'm home. I have 2 green cheek conures (both boys - Lolli & Luna) and they love each other like brothers - though they are not biologically brothers. Lolli would be close to me if I didn't get Luna. Once I got Luna...it all changed. But they have each other and they fly around and play and life is great. As for Piper! He is wonderful and we do a lot together. I take him outside when the weather is warm and we go for drives to the Bird Store (Family Owned Exotic Bird Store) and we spend time with other birds and people. He started talking at the beginning of October and the phrases and whistles are only increasing by the day. Piper was born 2/2/2-23...so he's only like 10-1/2 months old. I absolutely love him. As Parrot Bliss mentioned in her video...they are independent. However, that said...when Piper sees me? He wants me. He makes it known that he doesn't want me to leave the room or put him anywhere but with me. So, I think it's just a matter of how much time and effort you put into your bird. Keep in mind...the more birds you have the less time you will have to dedicate to any one bird...trust me... I have 13 birds (10 parakeets). But having more than one is really great because they love being and living around more birds...they feel safe and comfortable with all the birds chattering. Happy Birding!!! Linda 🐦

Very well said about the bonding, about having more birds and what a great post, Linda. Thank you for taking the time, I enjoyed it. Piper sounds wonderful. My male, Jules, is friendly, but I adopted him too late at around 6 to 8 months. The early months after weaning are crucial. Still, he's much nicer than our hen, Milo, and we love hearing him mimic our other birds. Happy Holidays!

They did tell me that she might not as They said she will certainly be affectionate, but I don’t think that’s true. She doesn’t like to be touched. She does sit on my arm or my shoulder sometimes but she is very very independent which is not what I wanted in a bird I won’t get rid of her because I still love her, but it is kind of unfortunate

I’m just fine with our female Dusky Conure, she’s my little buddy and bonded to me instead of my wife who wanted the bird, lol. As I recline in bed writing this she’s napping on my chest underneath my chin. She likes to preen my beard then relax by pressing her beak on my face. Amazing animal. We adopted her when her original owner passed away and we give Lolly a lot of attention and she only goes in the cage for sleep or if we have to leave the house for a little while. I don’t believe in clipping her wings and she’s potty trained which saves a lot of shirts, lol.

This is so true. Even though it’s better for most birds to have a relatively hands off relationship with their caretakers, the Asiatic species take that to the max. The Aussie grass parrots are like this too (princess parrots, superb parrots, Australian king parrots, etc). None of these species allopreen so they don’t like touch at all. ALL touch to IRNs is considered sexual, even if you’re just petting the bird on the head. Under these types of informative videos will always be people talking about the exceptions and how “cuddly” their IRN is, but in reality the IRN is either tolerating the affection or has an inappropriate sexual pair bond with the owner. Another thing that is super important to mention about IRNs is that there is NO such thing as the bluffing phase. This myth that birds go through a hormonal bite-y phase before they get better has to be responsible for people purchasing birds with the hope that their bird will eventually want to be handled after this “phase” only to rehome their parrot when this never happens. Research on the particular species is so important, as there is a wealth of misinformation out there. Conures are kinda weird…they’re very touch oriented and are perhaps the only parrot I’d consider naturally “cuddly”…MAYBE macaws
@ParrotBliss
@ParrotBliss Жыл бұрын
Enjoyed reading your post -- yes! They don't like to be handled, and it is not a phase. My mentor says that females, in particular, should be in aviaries. I agree. My male is far more friendly, and he comes to us--- BUT we are NOT allowed to touch him! It's easy for me to see the difference because I have an IRN next to a Conure. Yes, Conures are on the other end of the spectrum. They get mad when we ask them to leave our shoulder and they expect more affection. Amazons, Cockatoos, Quakers and Caiques, off the top of my head, are also cuddly, but not as much as Conures. Thanks for posting, I love when people know! Feels good to hear because IRN are popular, but I don't know if people know what they are getting into.

I am sorry but you can form a strong bond with an indian ringneck.. I am my bird's whole life.. he/she calls for me all the time, wants cuddles.. It all depends on how you raise him/her and how much time you spend with your birds.
@ParrotBliss
@ParrotBliss Жыл бұрын
That is wonderful and I'm not surprised. However, unless you have experienced many, many IRN, you may not realize that it is not uncommon for them to not bond. Yes, some is how they are raised, of course. However, this does not override their nature. A lot of people have your experience - and there are people who do not. They have a bird that isn't affectionate- especially females. My mission is to make sure that someone looking to get an IRN understands their nature and what their parrot may be like. I hand-fed and spent time with mine. She's typical, not warm and affectionate. My male is more so, much more. I don't want to see or think of IRN that are ignored and left in their cage because they are not affectionate- punished for their nature simply because we, as people, see a loving IRN online and then expect this, not knowing that it is not necessarily "normal." Hope that explains- but I am thrilled to hear that you are having a great experience. I think it is beneficial for you and your bird. Nothing better!

Hello, i have a female IRN, and had her for a couple months, i believe she's almost a year old now, about 10-11 months. Im wondering on your thoughts of her being a solo ringneck in our household. We have a green cheek conure and a budgie. Im often being told theres too high of a risk of her having health issues or possibly ending up eggbound if she never has a male partner. We originally were looking for a male but got her instead. But it would be extremely upsetting if she ever started having issues and was laying eggs solo. Otherwise if we did consider getting a male down the line as well, the people who sold me her said there would be a high risk i would lose my bond with her.

I disagree with your comments about IRNs not bonding. It has to do with time you have with them. IMO owning dozens of birds isn't going to allow for the same kind of bonding with any bird. IRNs are certainly different and require much work to achieve true tameness and bonding but it can and does happen if you want it to. The bluffing period is difficult but if you work through that, you can achieve a close bond.
@ParrotBliss

I really wish that everyone would consider the fact that birds have wings and belong only in trees with their flocks, NOT in your home! I also really wish that everyone would consider how long birds live- specifically parrots and even cockatoo. IRN can lives till their about 50 and cocky’s till their about 100-120, so how many times do these birds have to be heart broken when they’re abandoned by their owners! I am sitting here writing this with my RESCUED IRN laying on my chest, rescued after being locked in a cage and beaten and abused for 15years and unfortunately this is NOT the only case of abuse for birds, especially IRN’s. So I am her 2nd owner and she’s still got another 35 odd years to go before she’s 50 and so what happens when I die- possibly before her, or get kicked out of my apt because of the noise complaints, or run out of money to get her vet care and the fresh organic food that she loves so much…... I would NEVER EVER consider getting any bird as a pet- it’s damn cruel in sooo many ways- SO MANY WAYS, so please think about just how loud they are, how messy they are, how demanding they are and how expensive they are as pets, for you need to take them to an Avian Specialist and not just a regular vet. They don’t have “off’ buttons and IRNs’ are the most abandoned birds. please see this if you do’t believe me. www.letcompanionbirdsfly.com.au/ and if you absolutely have to get a bird- ADOPT DON’T SHOP and don’t support the bird factories- which are just as bad and many times worse than puppy farms! If you do actually love birds so much, then let them be birds- FREE IN THE TREES!

IRN have an advantage in the wild, they are survivors. There are A Lot of species that have lost their habitat. The only reason there are some Spix Macaws in the wild now is because people have had pets/breeders and these are a part of an attempt to put some back in the wild. I agree, birds should fly. Unfortunately, their trees are there less and less each year.

@@ParrotBliss Unfortunately not so true for all hand reared birds- atleast not my Indy. She once got away and was on deaths door when she was found, cold and starving in a tree, skin and bones.... And yes, too many species have lost habitats and homes and its great to have legit breeders doing it to save them and the environment, but they are very few and far between AS THE MAJORITY OF BREEDERS are only in it for the MASSIVE profits. THE MOST PROFITABLE industry with the LEAST amount of regulations, governance and policing so these breeders can literally get away with murder. Far more prevalent and 'dirty' than puppy farms and we all know how utterly atrocious those 'breeders' are to their dogs.

Hi..I’m so sorry for doing this I know it’s for comments but I would like to ask a question if I may..I have male IRN named Fiji he’s almost 6 years old…he’s pretty tamed,sometimes so sweet,sometimes he can be a little mean but I love him,he does allow me to pet him most of the time,but I feel like he doesn’t get as much attention as he should,I work and out of the house for at least 9 hours a day,I was thinking many times to get another IRN (male as well cause I don’t want to breed them) but he’s really obsessed with me,it’s just he and I in the house so anywhere I go he follows me like a shadow,he seriously thinks he’s the boss in the house too,so I’m worried that if I get one bird he would be aggressive/jealous and I would have to rehome the new guy and I would hate if I had to do that..he doesn’t really show any signs of being stressed being by himself but I always imagine how cool it would be if he had a friend to play with… or should I just leave him alone..how can I know if my IRN would get along with another bird?The reason why I was always skeptical about getting another bird is because I’ve seen so many people selling birds online because they got them as second birds for their IRNs and they didn’t get along so they had to sell the second bird and I think it’s so sad!
