Birds are loud. People need to know things like they bite and they are loud and I love them. If people that sell them were honest that would save a lot of birds from having to be rescued and re-homed.
@Loveofpets

That is very true. I have heard breeders say that they don't bite and are quiet but in reality throughout the birds life it will bite for various reasons and scream.

I heard a breeder one time at a show tell a customer that Sun Conure's make good apartment birds. My mouth fell open. That is why birds end up plucking and in rescues.

How horrible! Just to make a sale and the bird suffers in the end. That's why anyone should research to see what bird is for them. Some people believe what breeders say because they assume they know their breed, some breeders that are good of course tell people but others trying to make a buck won't say anything negative about the bird.

Ring necks are so odd. They dont look like any other bird They dont sound like any other bird And they dont act like any other bird They look like a plastic toy, they are so smooth. And they have this very animated way of moving around. Then there is that high pitched voice that sounds like trying to talk wmusing a squeak toy.. What ARE ring necks? They are so unique!

Thank you so much for your honesty in this video. I was thinking about getting a ringneck, they are so pretty & smart. But I’m 74 yrs. old on a limited income. All I saw in this in video was $ signs. Plus I doubt I would live long enough to take care of a bird like this. I live in a small apartment, with no room for very large or multiple cages. I am so grateful I came across your video. It was the reality check I needed. Again, thank you and best of luck to you and your feathered & 4 legged friends!

Your welcome. A budgie or canary may fit into your lifestyle or you can consider adopting an older bird. Ringnecks however are too loud for an apartment. I am glad to hear my video helped you in choosing a pet bird.

@grantrev-nz4337

I am glad its illegal , your country has done an intelligent action , i love birds and have an alexandrine , i love her , she loves me , and if i thought she would survive in the wild and find a mate i would let her go. After owning an Indian ring neck , and now an alexandrine , i have become so close and studied birds so much , i now believe humans should never have caged birds. I tears me apart when she shows her natural desire to breed. Its uncontrollable , birds should always live in flocks with 30 - 40 other friends , screaming , playing , and having little birds. If we showed them nothing but respect and caring , wild birds would not be so wild. They would actually interact with us . But over the last few hundred years we have shot them for fun , to stop nesting , to keep away from crops , and some people simply dislike them. When people first arrived in NZ birds walked right up to them. The birds reward for being friendly and interactive was death , or imprisonment in a cage. New Zealand was the land of the birds , before humans discovered their fantastic wilderness Cheers from New Zealand Grant

I have one of these, and boy do they have a personality. They actually just want affection when they tilt their heads back. Though the video says not to encourage it, you also don't want to neglect affection from a very affectionate bird. You just have to learn its behavior by watching it and think logicallly what he/she needs. In my case, she. A very great pet.

I live to the west of London, England, we have lots of wild Indian Ring Necks here, the green variety. I first noticed them visit our garden about seventeen years ago, but they have been in this country a lot longer than that. Nobody knows how they got here, but once they did they proliferated. They originally had no natural predators but I'm told some have fallen victim to sparrowhawks and other similar birds of prey. They are beautiful but without doubt the loudest birds I have ever encountered.

Since Indian ringnecks were popular pets a lot were exported, they have been described as pets in the Roman empire. So it is believed pets that were taken to England probably from back when India was an imperial colony escaped and established a thriving feral population. Since they're very intelligent they fare well in cities, they feed on human scarps and fruits and seeds in urban areas and use tall buildings as nesting sites.

I have one that we adopted from an elderly and unprepared pet shop purchaser, and although they don't live where I live they do live in London where I work, so I tell people in London who ask about my birds that he is one of the green parrots that wake them up in the morning. The wild ones in London are more hand tame than mine was when we first got him, they land and eat on you in the parks. I think he was probably raised in an avery and first handled by being grabbed out of it to be taken to the pet shop. Now he is affectionate but still hands are the one thing that he wants to initiate contact with, not have approaching him. The wild ones have no fear of hands.

I wish 'my' parakeets were as tame as the ones in central London! They wer more tolerant to me in summer, when they were desperate to feed their babies. But now they fly away as soon as I open the door to my garden. It's a time of abundance, when many trees have fruited, so they don't need us so much. You could say that London is a giant aviary with plenty of food! :-)

About the loudness: as someone who has previously owned many many birds and only have an IRN now I would like to say that I prefer this species noices the most 😅 for example I never liked cockatiel noices, they are so high pitch that I don't really like to keep them anymore. Macaws made less noice but the noice shook the walls 🤣🤣 IRN noice is the most pleasant in my opinion, he can make noice and it's not bothering me at all I actually like his voice a lot. I think that is something people don't always take to consideration and is something I have learned purely from experience. IRN noice is much nicer than cockatiels and budgies for example. African greys on the other hand make noices that they hear and mine repeated my ex's voice for a long time wich was disturbing to say the least.

My Robbie lived 28 years . He was an Indian ringneck parrot. Loved that bird, very happy. Loved the mirrors. I think he believes there were other birds in the mirrors. Was so upset when he passed. There was no warning , he was healthy his whole life, my Robbie went through bluffing b ehavior if I paid more attention to my other birds more than him .sensitive bird, he’d get his feelings hurt and turn away when I gave him attention after the others, he’d do that until he figured I had paid enough of a price! Lol

I have three indian ringneck parrots too. The thought of losing any one of them scares me. All my life since I was a kid, we have been keeping these greens. Have seen so many die. The death of a parrot (pet in general) is same as the death of any family member. It makes me sad to learn that your parrot is no more. 💔

28 years??? That's a long time! Hope mine lives that long. I got a 2 year old lutino Ringneck, probably female for what I see in her behavior. I had budgie that lived 10 years, a lovebird that lived 15 and a cockatiel that lived 22. Very sad when they passed but can't complain about living above their life expectancy.

I have a ringneck. I was told he was African but he looks just like an Indian so I just say he is a rose ringed parakeet or Ringneck. lol Unfortunately he has been neglected for a decade so he is terrified of hands. I am working with him but it is very slow as he gets anxious very easily. I had to buy him a huge cage as he doesn't like his tail to touch anything...he came to me with his tail trimmed short which he does himself...so my solution was to buy him the biggest cage I could get which is about 5 foot long. lol So far so good...his tail is growing. 🙌🏾 I had to get him a travel cage larger than yours as his tail. lol

Yes they have very long tails, glad it's growing, they need it to balance themselves for flying.

Aww, Rio loves her mommy very much! Rio is living like a Queen and eating like a King! So lucky to be your bird! I also put napkins on the bottom of my cages too. I love your multi-colored/marble effect wall in the beginning of the video. Did you paint that yourself? Also, dd you paint the lamp on your desk in your computer room? I have seen them in solid green and solid colors but never that colorful. Thank you for the valuable info about IRN parrots. Kisses from Mango, Blueberry & Rainbow!

Thank you for getting back to me. It’s so important that people realise not all birds talk. I think a lot of people see you tube videos on birds talking and go and buy one only to be disappointed. I have fallen in love with my Kakariki Alan . If he never talked we don’t care here’s a joy x
@Loveofpets

That's true unfortunately, I have seen birds being rehomed because they won't talk, so sad. I loved my Kakariki so much, he died very young of a bad heart. I can't find anymore Kakarikis in my area.

Love of Pets I’ve just been informed by a vet this morning not to feed chillies 🌶 to my ringneck and Kakariki. He said it can mess their stomachs about. Please help as my birds look forward to their chilli first thing when they wake up 🤔
@Loveofpets
@Loveofpets 4 жыл бұрын
I have never heard about chilli's hurting a birds stomach. Many people feed chilli peppers to their birds without a problem. I would have to research about this but as far as I know it's not an issue. Is your vet a certified avian vet? I will ask my vet next time I see him.
@aprillroberts
@aprillroberts 4 жыл бұрын
Love of Pets he’s an exotic animal vet. I went to see him because my canary had been bitten by my Ringneck ( sadly my Canary passed away yesterday )😢 He’s an Avian vet who also does a lot of work with a very established Zoo. I was truly shocked to hear his comments on giving chillies to my birds. If you could find out from your vet about the danger (if any ) I’d be very grateful. It’s 7.45 am here in the UK and I’m about to go downstairs to see my boys. They will be excited to get their chilli but I’m reluctant to give them any more until I’m positive it’s safe to do so 🌶🤷‍♀️💕

I have a male that looks very much like yours. He was born on St Patricks day this year. He will step up but will not let me touch him. I'm his favorite person in the house and hangs out with me yet still bites me occasionally. His name is Loki. He also loves the ball like yours but likes to rip them apart. I'm hoping he gets nicer to me but even if he doesn't I love him with all my heart.

I got my male ringneck last year and he's an angel. He used to do the same thing and it took a long time for him to trust me to pet him but now he loves it! Try not to react if he bites you and let him get used to your hand. Don't give up and keep trying!😊

I have 2 male IRN and despite being hand-raised, they were NOT hand tame when I got them after weaning. The first few months I had them were a huge struggle between their fear of me and the biting. The more wild one would literally fly to me and just chomp down on me....! It was incredibly frustrating! However, I continued to work with them. Since they are flighted, if they ever bit me, I just gently shook them off and they would fly away. I've had them now for 2 years and they are so much better trained now. I haven't gotten a real bite in a very long time--part of this is that I also know better what the signs are that will LEAD toward the bite, and I don't even permit those signs. They are now two very friendly little birds and they will readily fly over to me, chill with me, preen my hair, and climb all over me. What's more is that they have also turned out to be quite social with other people too as long as I am nearby. :) Take heart and be patient! He will come around eventually :)

Wendy Wood Stress less, had the exact same issue! Was cute and affectionate as a baby, then started biting and being nasty/grumpy all the time. Although that didn't stop us from giving him lots of love and affection. He has now grown out of this stage after about 6 to 10 months of it, and is once again a cute & loving happy little boy. Our bond grows stronger each day that comes by, so it was well worth the patience. Very rewarding.

I can understand this. I also was excited and nervous. When I got her home, she was VERY afraid (she was OK at her breader's home though). I was quite worried that I couldn't tame her. But, exactly, it took me 10 weeks to make her comfortable with the "step up". After 20 weeks, she couldn't spend a day with me in the house without asking for being with me ;)
