Birds are loud. People need to know things like they bite and they are loud and I love them. If people that sell them were honest that would save a lot of birds from having to be rescued and re-homed.

How horrible! Just to make a sale and the bird suffers in the end. That's why anyone should research to see what bird is for them. @grantrev-nz43374 жыл бұрын
I am glad its illegal , your country has done an intelligent action , i love birds and have an alexandrine , i love her , she loves me , and if i thought she would survive in the wild and find a mate i would let her go. After owning an Indian ring neck , and now an alexandrine , i have become so close and studied birds so much , i now believe humans should never have caged birds. I tears me apart when she shows her natural desire to breed. Its uncontrollable , birds should always live in flocks with 30 - 40 other friends , screaming , playing , and having little birds. If we showed them nothing but respect and caring , wild birds would not be so wild. They would actually interact with us . But over the last few hundred years we have shot them for fun , to stop nesting , to keep away from crops , and some people simply dislike them. When people first arrived in NZ birds walked right up to them. The birds reward for being friendly and interactive was death , or imprisonment in a cage. New Zealand was the land of the birds , before humans discovered their fantastic wilderness Cheers from New Zealand Grant

I live to the west of London, England, we have lots of wild Indian Ring Necks here, the green variety. I first noticed them visit our garden about seventeen years ago, but they have been in this country a lot longer than that. Nobody knows how they got here, but once they did they proliferated. They originally had no natural predators but I'm told some have fallen victim to sparrowhawks and other similar birds of prey. They are beautiful but without doubt the loudest birds I have ever encountered.

So it is believed pets that were taken to England probably from back when India was an imperial colony escaped and established a thriving feral population. I have one that we adopted from an elderly and unprepared pet shop purchaser, and although they don't live where I live they do live in London where I work, so I tell people in London who ask about my birds that he is one of the green parrots that wake them up in the morning. The wild ones in London are more hand tame than mine was when we first got him, they land and eat on you in the parks. I think he was probably raised in an avery and first handled by being grabbed out of it to be taken to the pet shop. Now he is affectionate but still hands are the one thing that he wants to initiate contact with, not have approaching him. The wild ones have no fear of hands.
@DiscoverPARROTS6 жыл бұрын
I wish 'my' parakeets were as tame as the ones in central London! They wer more tolerant to me in summer, when they were desperate to feed their babies. But now they fly away as soon as I open the door to my garden. It's a time of abundance, when many trees have fruited, so they don't need us so much. You could say that London is a giant aviary with plenty of food! :-)

About the loudness: as someone who has previously owned many many birds and only have an IRN now I would like to say that I prefer this species noices the most 😅 for example I never liked cockatiel noices, they are so high pitch that I don't really like to keep them anymore. Macaws made less noice but the noice shook the walls 🤣🤣 IRN noice is the most pleasant in my opinion, he can make noice and it's not bothering me at all I actually like his voice a lot. I think that is something people don't always take to consideration and is something I have learned purely from experience. IRN noice is much nicer than cockatiels and budgies for example. African greys on the other hand make noices that they hear and mine repeated my ex's voice for a long time wich was disturbing to say the least.

I was told he was African but he looks just like an Indian so I just say he is a rose ringed parakeet or Ringneck. lol Unfortunately he has been neglected for a decade so he is terrified of hands. I am working with him but it is very slow as he gets anxious very easily. I had to buy him a huge cage as he doesn't like his tail to touch anything...he came to me with his tail trimmed short which he does himself...so my solution was to buy him the biggest cage I could get which is about 5 foot long. lol So far so good...his tail is growing. 🙌🏾 I had to get him a travel cage larger than yours as his tail. lol

Yes they have very long tails, glad it's growing, they need it to balance themselves for flying.

I have a male that looks very much like yours. He was born on St Patricks day this year. He will step up but will not let me touch him. I'm his favorite person in the house and hangs out with me yet still bites me occasionally. His name is Loki. He also loves the ball like yours but likes to rip them apart. I'm hoping he gets nicer to me but even if he doesn't I love him with all my heart.

I got my male ringneck last year and he's an angel. He used to do the same thing and it took a long time for him to trust me to pet him but now he loves it! Try not to react if he bites you and let him get used to your hand. Don't give up and keep trying!😊

I have 2 male IRN and despite being hand-raised, they were NOT hand tame when I got them after weaning. The first few months I had them were a huge struggle between their fear of me and the biting. The more wild one would literally fly to me and just chomp down on me....! It was incredibly frustrating! However, I continued to work with them. Since they are flighted, if they ever bit me, I just gently shook them off and they would fly away. I've had them now for 2 years and they are so much better trained now. I haven't gotten a real bite in a very long time--part of this is that I also know better what the signs are that will LEAD toward the bite, and I don't even permit those signs. They are now two very friendly little birds and they will readily fly over to me, chill with me, preen my hair, and climb all over me. What's more is that they have also turned out to be quite social with other people too as long as I am nearby. :) Take heart and be patient! He will come around eventually :)

Dont worry upto 4 months they behave like stub born teenagers.. Dnt react when he bites u, I tried to stop give attention when bites..so it works most of the time. Try to talk in soothing voice..

Wendy Wood Stress less, had the exact same issue! Was cute and affectionate as a baby, then started biting and being nasty/grumpy all the time. Although that didn't stop us from giving him lots of love and affection. He has now grown out of this stage after about 6 to 10 months of it, and is once again a cute & loving happy little boy. Our bond grows stronger each day that comes by, so it was well worth the patience. Very rewarding.

This was so helpful! I was unsure of my IRN’s gender but now I’m 100% positive it’s a girl. She displays the same way and has no ring. She’s my only bird and although I am her primary caretaker, she loves my husband. Thanks!

I can understand this. I also was excited and nervous. When I got her home, she was VERY afraid (she was OK at her breader's home though). I was quite worried that I couldn't tame her. But, exactly, it took me 10 weeks to make her comfortable with the "step up". After 20 weeks, she couldn't spend a day with me in the house without asking for being with me ;)

@@georgiamae3037 I wanted a purple but they were so mean when I went to get one. I ended up with a green baby. But either way be prepared to work with the bird because they require some daily work and handling to get them to be docile.

Rio is simply gorgeous, ❤❤❤ and her behavior is absolutely adorable! Her bathing routines are simply devine! I've got a sweet sweet Senegal who turned 19 this spring! He hates men and I suppose I do too now! 😆 His name is Forrest and he isn't clipped either. He loves flying and he's absolutely fabulous at it. Which pellets does Rio enjoy? Well, I absolutely enjoyed your video and meeting sweet Rio, so we're new subscribers.

my bird is going through the bluffing stage and I do not like it. If my bird ends up talking I think the most he'll say is : don't be a meanie. cuz that's what I tell him when he's in that stage or being a meanie.

Awww you’re the best bird 🐦 mommy. I have a parakeet and a cockatiel. My parakeet has no smell and isn’t dusty. My cockatiel on the other hand is very dusty but he has a wonderful smell. I truly enjoy his smell. I also love how my Yorkies smell naturally. I wonder if that’s weird. I like smelling them. LOL
