The advice to keep it on the down-low is a very good one. Mods are very similar to ERP on FFXIV; they'll ban you if you get reported for it, but otherwise they don't care all that much for most of them. But if you're keeping it to yourself, or to others who you know are also using mods, then they really don't care and you're free to have fun with your customized outfits, fox tails, and QoL upgrades.

Absolutely. It's legitimately the only rule. If you force their hand, they'll have no choice but to enforce the TOS. Otherwise, they are more than happy to keep going after the bots that are disrupting the game for other players instead.

I feel like SE needs to openly embrace cosmetic modding (I don't mod myself but know plenty who do); there is so much work that dedicated individuals have done for the game aesthetic; the team can get so many ideas and feedback just by simply reaching out to mod sites and saying 'we love this, work with us to implement this into the game permanently'. I know Yoshi-P has talked about that as well at points but it seems there is reluctance to actually do it.
@gamer_debbie Жыл бұрын
Absolutely you are right! 💜There would be tremendous benefit to the game designers to consult with those who are most emmeshed in the modding community for ideas when it comes to new glamours, emotes, hairstyles and such. They know far better than anyone else what that community would appreciate seeing in game! If they can capture the trust and cooperation of those cosmetic modders, then they have a leg-up when it comes to planning future seasonal events/pvp rewards, etc.

lol I'm glad. The game has been constantly improving, and they are very aware of the quality of life improvements they need to make going forward. But it's ultimately up to each player what risks they are comfortable taking. I hope in all other ways you are enjoying the game! 💜

There's a bug currently with the shader implementation that a lot of people moved to this week that causes the visual effects to not be applied to a little square area around certain job gauges. It's like a little bowl of dirty dishwater that reminds you why people may be tempted to use shaders. 😅

I would question what kind of people are looking that closely at the screen, but, I don't think I want to know. It's that other FFXIV that people love to play. I'll just go back to my weeklies now. 🙊

One of the best things about ff14 is not needing mods. There are some quality of life ones that i would like to see them just add to the game. Hopefully we will see it.
@gamer_debbie3 ай бұрын
I think they are very much taking mods into consideration when looking at adding quality of life upgrades to the game. There have been a few that we have seen added. This is big for console players who otherwise wouldn't have any of that utility. But you're absolutely right!💜 I used at least a dozen mods for WoW and it's good to be out of that!

I think the general rule of thumb is, if you want to mess with the graphics a bit and aren't telling everyone then it's fine. If you are raiding and want to have a performance metric of your performance for the purpose of analyzing and improving yourself, that's fine as long as you don't tell everyone and aren't a huge dick about it. If you want have something that exceeds the limits of the game in what is normally available for other players (bots, zoom hacks, extra AOE markers etc) that is cheating and will get you banned sooner or later. There is some inherent risk to any mod yes, but realistically you have to go out of your way to make it known you use them. SE has said they have no way of detecting what's installed in your game, so If you aren't actively streaming/recording/screenshoting your game and then releasing it in public channels then no one will know or care if you have a mod for fluffier tails or whatever it may be.
@GetterRay Жыл бұрын
No, the general rule is that all mods are bad, Yoshida even clarified that in his last letter. Its not fine, you're definitely breaking the rules, but if you don't tell anyone then they can't catch you. That's a very different thing from it being allowed or permissible by the devs. I use ACT sometimes just for fun to compare with my friends, but I know I'm breaking the rules by doing it regardless of whether I gloat about it to strangers or not.
@gamer_debbie Жыл бұрын
Essentially, yes. There is risk with using any mod, because you are at that point, regardless of how harmless it is, in violation of the TOS and they can act against you. They probably won't, unless you give them reason to, that's true! But the point is to ensure everyone is aware of that and isn't caught off-guard.
@gamer_debbie Жыл бұрын
That's it ! As long as you are aware of the risks, understand the consequences, you are able to make the decision for yourself whether you decide to take that chance or not. But because the community has become so 'lax' in talking about mods, I hope that new players aren't assuming this means it's okay.

Honestly ive found that the only thing i cant deal with for lack of a better term just base game without using any shaders or anything is certain areas color schemes are horrendous for me. I find it nigh on impossible to see the markers by bosses and enemies in certain areas and no matter what color blind options or settings i tinker with both in game and on my actual pc helps it so i ended up using shaders not because i want to but because of the fact how am i supposed to play well if i cant see whats happening and with nothing in the official game to help fix it
@gamer_debbie Жыл бұрын
I can appreciate that. I'll keep that in mind if I ever get the king's ear. I know some things can be difficult to see, but I don't have any visual disabilities, so I can't really speak to that myself.

@@PrincessofKeys maybe im not sure how they could because it has to do with colors for me its a lot of zones like il megh or however you spell it where they are super bright and colorful or certain areas im even ivalice where the zones from enemies are just super hard for me to see thats why personally i dont understand why they dont give us the option to change the color of the enemy aoe radius theyve shown it in endwalker and plenty of other areas that they can change it they just dont want us to have it especially when a normal raid fight in endwalker is designed to be just so orange as well lol

i feel this topic comes out every "downtime" between patches and it's becoming tiring XD it's unfortunate that SE doesn't/can't be expected to draw a line between harmless QoL/visual plugins and straight up cheats like we saw in both EW ultimate world races, but at least they're keeping an eye on them and adding the ones they feel will indeed improve the game (see: dmg type info, party list buff timers, etc.); in the end, people who publicly show they're using them are just dumb and kinda wishing for a report and possible ban...
@gamer_debbie Жыл бұрын
You're entirely right! Thank you for sharing! When I was looking at videos already done on this topic, there was a batch 3 months ago, and a batch 8 months ago. And I don't know if a lot of larger FFXIV content creators have even bothered addressing it again this time because it's just, what you said, 'tiring'. But given that I'm new, and there are things that new players need to know, I think a video addressing the topic was worth making. Anyone who doesn't follow these basic principles only have themselves to blame the next time this topic comes up.

And at the same time the "dumb people" that got banned with these addons are the ones we should thank for bringing the attention to the devs to add them to the base game.

It's the only appropriate use of "don't ask don't tell." If you mod, and you tell even your closest online friends, you still have no idea if they're going to report you. Best err on the side of caution when it comes to it. The most cautious is not using them at all, but people have a history of not following solid advice lol
