Still finished number 6 or 7 that year. It shows how good these guys are even in their worst seasons (2013 Federer, 2015-2016 Nadal, 2017-first half 2018 Djokovic), they all finished in the top 10 these years, except Djokovic in 2017 who was 17 maybe but he stopped his season after Wimbledon so there's nothing strange.

Funny thing is that despite losing in Rome final in straight sets, Federer played much better but worse at the same time if that makes sense (many more winners but more ue as well)

Federer plays an aggressive style, and against him Nadal, that already plays like no tomorrow every point, used to go all in. After 2009, aside for the WT Finals 2010 and RG 20011 final to 2017, I had the impression that Federer entered the court specially on clay, defeated before the match even started.
