You are awesome. Everything you've shared is true. I am in my 3rd year of my Sisterlock "journey", and I am so very pleased with my hair. You are so right about the no product mentality, and the retightening on schedule. I hope you return to the Sisterhood! Blessings!

You are the bomb. You really care about others. I really appreciate your advice and honesty. I made my down payment to start my sisterlocks. I wish I had seen this before. I am going to take back my money. I am also a rebel, don't see myself sitting in anyone's chair every 6 weeks, and that is exactly why I have my hair natural.

I can appreciate your video for the most part. I'm 5 yrs locked, after your locks have matured, you can use any products, and color in moderation. I'm very happy you stressed there is a continuous cost to keep your Sisterlocks well groomed Everything else you mentioned is spot on!

I want sisterlocks but I want to maintain them myself. I'd rather them install it because I love the grid and then do it myself from then on. I hate other people doing my hair lol. Im so conflicted
@thedigitalloctician8 жыл бұрын
You can't take the retightening class to learn to do them yourself until they have settled. At least 6 months to a year. I would suggest getting microlocs. You won't have the grid but you have the flexibility to do yourself.
@indigogirl51728 жыл бұрын
+Kaneza cherie I got sisterlocks in August 317 locks installed. If you are going to retighten yourself, you must consider the size of sisterlocks you want, the more small the more locks you will have and the more time it will take to retighten. You are right about letting them do the grid then self maintaining. I only went to 2 retightening before learning online how to do my own retightening. TIP: make sure your loctician tells you what pattern she is using.(there is pattern 1,2,3,4) I did not pay anyone $250, that is a rip off. There are websites and YT videos that will show you how. I was able to retighten my own hair with only a bobbypin, hair clips, and a spray bottle. But it took a long time, I will get faster as time goes by. Making an interlocking tool is easy and cheap. But no more paying someone else to do my hair.
@fayetaylor19988 жыл бұрын
Can you tell me what videos you looked at to learn how to retighten? I get my sisterlocs on 9/12 and I sure don't want to constantly depend on someone else to do my hair. I plan to go maybe for six months of retightens then take it from there.
@indigogirl51728 жыл бұрын
Faye Taylor dynamicRunner has a good tutorial on interlocking and Kreyola's blog has a lot of info/how to on locking patterns/rotations and tools. Naturalisious has a YT good video showing how she does it. Check out her blog too. There was a another one with two sister from the UK who do a great demo, but I can't find the video anymore. If I find it, I will let you know.
@indigogirl51728 жыл бұрын
Faye Taylor I think it is best to first know what your locking pattern is. Most people have pattern 3 or 4. The goto Kreyola's Journey. She explains the rotation very well. Then check out the videos demonstrating how it is done. Make sure to have hair clips to separate the locks, to prevent joining locks.

You bring up a good point with the products and itchy scalp, but I will say once my Sisterlocks matured I had no problems coloring, conditioning and using products. I think some of it boils down to your hair texture and how long it will take your locs to settle.

Thank you so much for sharing! I stopped using products some years ago. I haven’t had any chemicals in years. I believe that all of my chemically treated hair is gone, because of the constant hair cuts after going natural. I considered going back to chemically treated especially since I found out that I could still get the locks done even having my hair chemically treated. However, I am a bit apprehensive about doing that! My biggest problem that I have that you’ve discussed is scratching my scalp. With that said, any recommendations on a scalp “soother”? Also, wanted to add that I do not currently have sisterlocks, I'm just doing some research right now before I begin the journey. Thanks again!

Had a consul n due to my length n texture $ 850-1000 my research said it best , not many Locticians I hear more horror , bad experiences etc. about sista locs, They r cute ! My Sister & my son been tying to convince me for years to loc they both have very thick hair, waist length well groomed beautiful dreds, Im on the fence bc my texture fine, wavy, curly. U said your hair was fine - so did u start 2strands or much larger sections to get the look u have in video? Thanx 4 Getn Back #ImaNewbie

So I just wanted to point out that sisterlocks are not interlocks. Interlocks are knock offs of sisterlocks. Secondly, traditionals require more maintenance than sisterlocks. Thirdly, once your locks are settled you typically don’t get your hair retightened every 6 weeks, it’s an average of 7 weeks. There were some inaccuracies in your presentation, however you did have some great points. I’ve had my locks for 15 years and I deep condition my hair and use oils on my scalp.
@thedigitalloctician6 жыл бұрын
Untrue. Interlocks are a slang term for saying the locs are maintained with interlocking. For some traditional locs are “more maintenance” due to the ability to use products but Sisterlocks definitely require more of a financial investment/Maintenance. And yeah some schedules may adjust once they mature but not all so you can’t make that blanket statement.
@geriamims40352 жыл бұрын
@@thedigitalloctician Thank you again for the verification. Although you posted this reply 3 years ago, it still coincides with the information that is being given today in 2022! Although I will add, that it seems like the locks are getting even smaller now than 3-6 years ago. (Except for traditional locks which has remained the same over time.) And the fact that someone has introduced “micro locks,” which look like an ultra-micro “sisterlock.”
