I've had SL's for going on 9 years now. I LOVE my hair! I have the versatility of loose hair, and it's stronger and healthier than it's ever been. Our hair can be fragile, especially with daily styling, combing, brushing, blowdrying and just generally manipulating your hair. Locs just grow. That's their only mission in life: to grow. That's due in part because you just leave... it ...alone. I can style it any way I like, put rollers in my hair, wear a braid out, or just about anything you can do with loose hair...minus the damage and split ends that was the bane of my existence when my hair was worn loose. It is truly wash and wear. Be advised: there is a fair amount of maintenance involved. Once your hair is loc'ed, you can have your consultant teach you how to retighten it yourself, which is a huge moneysaver. I keep it moisturized and keep it tied up at night, and I quit using the SL products YEARS ago. Cost too much. After your locs are mature you can use any damn thing you want on your hair.The upfront cost of having them put in, is sizable, but you never have to do that ever again, and when you figure in the cost of touchups every two weeks or other expenses, for me, I actually came out ahead. Give them a try, talk to as consultant, talk to other SL'ed women, and get the whole picture. As for me, it's the best thing I ever did with my hair!!

Man I still don't know what route to go in. I think my family may be more forgiving with Sisterlocks but financially traditional sounds WAY better lol. Thanks for this video though

Hi, I enjoyed your vlog. I wanted sisterlocks for years but decided I didn't want the expense so I went with self-installed braidlocks instead. I have styling versatility and they're very easy to maintain. I tighten my new growth with the interlocking method. I do recommend sisterlocks for people who are used to working with a stylist especially if they're transitioning or new to natural hair. I was already natural and used to DIY hair so braidlocks worked well for me.

Great Vid! Very well put,glad to see you showed no partiality to one vs. the other and that you spoke from experience. I too have had both and like you said it really comes down to our Lifestyle choice as to which one" is a Better Fit".

Great video. My only comment is that breakage will occurs with any hair styling if you don't take due care. Over palm rolling, over tightening, wrong products, using hair styles such as pony tails with a tight band and lack of moisture may cause your hair to break. Also, sleeping without a silk scarf/pillow may add to breakage. There is so much more. Sisterlocks or any other form of wearing your hair if managed correctly will not cause breakage.

Very great points! Ease of working out with SLs vs. TLs and the transition to SLs without cutting your hair. Personally, I wouldn't transition SLs to TLs but yes it can be done. And I don't know about the retightening on your own, I've taken the class and tried to retighten myself and its a HUGE time commitment! Also, you should see a Sisterlocks Consultant at least once a quarter when doing self retightenings to make sure you're not damaging your hair or to do any repairs.

there are many factors to breakage. hereditary thinning, coloring w/o restoring moisture to the locs, going too long between retightenings, & the biggest one is consultants installing sisterlocks too small. as you said, the sizing has to do w/the density of the hair. many consultants think sisterlocks means teeny tiny locs on EVERYONE despite people having different densities. i hate when someone w/high density have small & micro sized sisterlocks which result in thin matured locs. not good.

Missed 3 pluses for SLs: You can take the class to maintain SLs yourself so potential for NO maintenance cost. Retightening does NOT have to be done in one sitting when you are doing them yourself. Ease of working out with SLs vs. TLs (palm rolled) without having to reroll after each workout session. Can transition from SLs to TLs WITHOUT cutting your hair by simply combining your locks which is something I may do down the road because love TLs just as much as SLs. Great video!

I do need to add a disadvantage to traditional locks which is breakage as well. I have seen a lot of people who have traditional locks with bald spots or locks that are broken off as well. I think that breakage does not only apply to sisterlocks. Great video though. I love the scarf!

I had my sister locs for 4yrs n loved them. I got the medium sized ones which did look like traditional dreads. And I Never used their own line of hair products. N never will when I get it back. Shea moisture coconut oil sprits, Hawaiian silk, organix oil serum and Wen for a shampoo was all I ever used n it worked great on my hair. 4b n 2 other textures. Plus they show you how to matine n re tighten the locs. Downside they didn't tell me if I don't keep up on the re tighten my hair would start falling out. :( so I shaved my head n started over. Still I miss them so.

@thedigitalloctician10 жыл бұрын
mzlucky1984 What made you chop your last set? You can do small interlocked locs, which are similar to Sisterlocks but less costly and you can chose to palmroll inbetween retightening if necessary.

The size of the Sisterlocks are dictated by the parting of the base of the Sisterlocks. Dutchness has small traditional locs.

I’m curious about this. Why did you decide to switch? I’ve been wondering if sisterlocks was the right call. And wtr the moisturizing, I’ve seen people talk about moisturizing their sisterlocks. In mylocksjourney.com/how-to-grow-locks/ she talks about how she used oils to grow hers. What products did you use that damaged your hair?

@thedigitalloctician9 жыл бұрын
Alisa McClam You can braid or twist them together to your desired size and then maintain them with palm rolling or you can interlock them together to your desired size and then eventually cut them as they get longer.
@ybishy11 жыл бұрын
not true. you can use moisturizing products once the sisterlocks are mature. i don't believe in using a lot of products, but i do a pre-shampoo condition of unrefined organic coconut oil w/dabur vatika coconut oil. i sleep w/it overnight, wash out w/an organic moisturizing shampoo, condition w/sisterlocks' moisture treatment, then seal the moisture in w/evoo & coconut oil mixture. seriously, sisterlocks is the EASIEST hair system i've ever had for the past 10 yrs & they're down my back.
