Glad to see this. I sweat so much I need to rinse my hair (currently natural but thinking of locs). Do you use a special dryer or just a tshirt/microfiber towel. How long does it take for it to dry. I am worried about my hair staying damp :(

no, i wouldn't add water to the mixture. just the oils. i use a 2:1 ratio, starting with a base of jojoba oil and then adding the peppermint oil based on how strong i want it to smell.

I am going through your older videos and I really needed this one. I have been working out at least five days a week for some months now and it has really dried out my hair. Definitely didn't know what to use. I'm going to try this as soon as I can make it to a store. Thanks!!

I do like Organic root stimulator Herbal Cleanse Dry Shampoo. It does have alcohol so I use it only once or twice a week. To alternate, I use a distilled water and Tea Tree oil mixture, put it in a basic spray bottle and spritz the roots. Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic, so it gets rid of any smelly bacteria.

A ratio of 3-4 drops of peppermint essential oil per 1 fl.oz of jojoba oil. The best peppermint essential oil to buy is the oil that comes in the small dark dropper bottles. You can find these at your local health food shop. There's usually a rack of essential oils in the body-care section.

thanks! yes, i use the mixture after each workout. because it's oil based it also serves as a moisturizer in addition to a cleanser. based on the comments it sounds like dry shampoo is a no-go because it has alcohol in it which is very drying and not good for natural hair.

Yes I have tried dried shampoo from Organic. I like it because it provides that tingling feeling in my hair, and it's easy to use. I have also done baking soda and vinegar -messy but it works:) however, I've been looking for something to reduce the odor in my hair after sweeting from a great workout. I will try this and order those hair bands. Thanks as always for sharing great ideas.

Can I say I LOVE THE BONDI BANDS! I've been using them for about two weeks since seeing your video and it makes such a difference! Much better than using the cotton bandanas. My locs are practically dry after I workout with the bondi band. I use the oil mixture every other day because it's VERY tingly, but keeps my hair fresh. Thanks again for this great tip!

I'm a big fan of Organic Root Stimulator's Herbal Cleanse, which is a dry shampoo. I use it after workouts, when I've been in smoky places, or if I need a quick cleanse but don't have the time to wash and retwist my hair. It sounds like it does exactly what the peppermint/jojoba does. However, they recommend putting the cleanse on your scalp and then rubbing it with a washcloth to cleanse it (you can also do this for the individual locs). That works really well.

THIS WHAT JUST WHAT I NEEDED!!!! I had just left the gym and I was thinking there has got to be an easier way to keep your hair dry and refresh without shampooing. AWESOME VIDEO! I have used the scalp cleanser that you mentioned and they do work really well and will leave your scalp feeling refreshed, BUT (its there always) they don't smell that great. I use Organic's Scalp cleanser and it has this strong smell of an astringent and alcohol. Really would prefer peppermint! Thanks, keep'em coming

i've never used a headbuff, but it's really a matter of personal preference. i started using bondi bands because i tend to sweat a lot and the regular headbands i was using prior just got really wet and smelly. the bondi bands are made of a material that pulls sweat away from your face which works better for me. so if what you're using works, i don't see a reason to change it!

I recently bought Organic Root Stimulator's Herbal Cleanser/Dry Shampoo which is supposed to be good for afro-natural hair in between regular washes. I used some on my boyfriend's locs and it worked pretty good and it smells really "garden-y" and refreshing. I have yet to try it on my locs because I am actually due for a full wash and twsit right now, but like I said it worked ok on his.

If you've got some time after your workout: To take the oil cleansing of the scalp to the next level, apply the oil to your scalp, then wet a towel with hot water and wrap your hair in it for 5-10 minutes. Then, wrap a plastic bag over it. Your scalp will feel really clean!

there's nothing wrong with washing your hair a few times a week, if that it works for you. but excessive washing can lead to dryness (and later breakage) because our hair is naturally dry and not meant to be washed everyday like caucasian hair. my only word of caution is since you're washing a lot, you shouldn't retwist your hair more than once every 2 weeks or so bc that will lead to thinning/breakage, which is another reason many people don't wash their locs more than every other week.

you definitely shouldn't retwist everyday, no matter what stage your locs are in. you can follow this same method if you have starter locs. wearing a headband to protect your hairline from sweat will help keep your baby locs from getting wet and unraveling. you can also use the jojoba peppermint mixture to breakdown any sweat that does get in your hair. another option is cover your hair completely with a dread soc, scarf or do-rag to during your workout.
