Thanks so much for doing this video...everything I wanted to ask you answered. My year old "curly locs" grow in layers so some styles are a bit of a challenge. My hair is soft, curly and taking FoReVeR to loc (hence "curly locs"), but I do my best to stay patient. I look forward to more of your videos, so I can rock some of your fab styles and learn to take care of my locs. PS: that dress is Super Cute!

I saw that video a bit ago about not using product. I've only had locs for 3.5 mos, but I thought, what the heck! You're right, you don't necessarily need a special product to keep your locs up. I just use coconut oil to condition and seal in moisture at the roots and they stay up and actually loc better than when I was using gel.

I love all your loc videos; you have an engaging personality. I always smile when watching the you :) My question is how do you wash your locs. I started my locs in December (wow over 6 months ago!) and I would like to really stop going to a loctician, but I'm afraid I will screw up my hair. Will you share some advice?
@ceceliascott961812 жыл бұрын
I would really recommend blow drying your locs if they are long. Mine are past my waist now and if I do not blow dry them, it takes days for them to dry (which will lead to a "mildew" smell). Get a blow drier with a "cool" setting so that you can alternate the heat, hold your head upside down and scrunch locs with your hand while drying, and your locs will look fuller. Lastly, moisturize locs with Jojoba or Argan Oil afterwards.

I know I'm not who you were asking, but I would like to say one simple thing: "Do what you want, and what feels good to you." Personally the short phase was not bad to me at all. People looked at me weird -- but I blame conformity and general perceptions on that. I had a friend who was self-conscious about the shorter length and he ended getting extensions (and lies about it lol) -- but it's all up to you. After all it's your hair, your style, you're the one wearing it =] I hope I've helped!

I'm trying to save my dreads from thinning out, a few of my locks are thinning out from the roots. I held back from twisting and just letting it grow out and at the same time I'm using black jamaican castor oil. Any other ideas you can give me to help get the strong thick roots I used to have?

Hi Dear, here is my question: I have shoulder length sister locs and I work out 5-6 days a week. When I work out I sweat a lot! Although I braid my hair at night to maintain its health, after my work outs any hope for curls is gone. What styles would you recommend for us with physically active lifestyles? I was thinking of petal locs, loc knots, but would appreciate your insights. Thanks so much, Amani :)

QUESTION on size: So I've read that it's recommended to start with pencil sized locs. Does this mean the size of the part or the size of the braid? Usually, the braid is smaller than the part/root. I've started locking and while my part is the size of (and even in some cases bigger) than a #2 pencil, the twist is smaller (which i know eventually swells). Awaiting your feedback, recommendations and comments - anyone :) Thanks!

any style can put stress on your edges, it's a matter of how you take care of your hair. to avoid stress on your edges it's important to wrap your hair at night, avoid over twisting, avoid twisting too tightly, always use the same maintenance method and only maintain on wet hair to avoid thinning and breakage.

i wish i could answer this for you, but it's really about you. how you feel about yourself and your looks is personal, and shouldn't be affected by the opinions of others. otherwise, you'd live your entire life based on what other people think is best for you! that's no way to live. you're a grown adult, and the decisions you make about your body are your own. you're still the same person you were with locs, and most likely your mother will know that.

according to the sisterlocks site, Dr. JoAnne Cornwell, who invented the technique got a patent, so that by law she is protected and thus owns the method. apparently she was sued, but i didn't know about it until i just looked up her site now. i admittedly don't know much about sisterlocks, but i do know that because they're very thin, you need to go to someone who has experience and has been trained to do install them

how old are you locs? they tend to be frizzy within the first year until they're fully mature. pal, rolling is really only the only thing you can do if your locs are frizzy, but it will only do so much for baby and teenage locs

Heyyyy! Quick question. I'm 3 months in on my loc journey, started with 2strand twist. Do you wrap you hair at night? If so is there a specific way or material you use to protect them. i'd say it's relative. it's as much work as you want it to be. for example, i do my own hair. but not everyone does. you can go to a salon and have them maintain your hair if that's easier for you. personally. i want to avoid the expense. i've also been doing my own hair for 8 years now, so it's not as time consuming as it was when i first started. for me, i don't see it as "work". i enjoy taking care of and styling my hair

Awesome video!! I'm a new subscriber & just got my locs on Oct. 20th. My stylist also did the comb-twisting method to get my locs started. I'm having a hard time re-twisting without clips--I was wondering if I should use a different locking gel. I am currently using Tropical Roots loc & twist gel. I also have the Tropical Roots growth oil. Most times I try to retwist (because of new growth) I just can't seem to keep them from unraveling a little at the roots. Even with clips, it seems like it's still not holding tight enough. Is there anything you can recommend to help with twisting? (Sidenote: I haven't washed my locs at all yet. My stylist said I should wait about 6 weeks until my hair starts to loc before washing)
