That's what I expected. My fishes are in a new area. My family don;t understand they are scared. I understand due to my ASD, and new environment is always unsettling, so I don't force my fishes out. In fact, I ordered a new log for them to feel safer and secure so they can get use to the new place they are in. Poor babies. Even in a pond I made for them, they are so scared. Hopefully in a month or so they will swim and eat normally. Right now they seem to eat only once every two days. I read it is ok for most fish species to have this rotating eating habit. I give my catfishes and loaches some yummy shrimp waffers. Hopefully they will transition to eating mosquito larvae and algae to keep the pond healthy and cleaner longer. I do want to get my turtle there soon enough... have it as his outdoor playground when I work on my garden he could relax and get real sun light as well as be around living plants and animals. 🥰 In the future I want to get larger fishes. I want ryukens or koi. But that is a way future, because the tub and equipment I want are too expensive. 😔Anyways thank you so much for your video.

Thank you so much for such useful and true information. I brought my comet goldfish 2 weeks ago and it used to sit in the bottom, hiding behind stones. Saw this video yesterday and came here for feedback. Added some decorative branch in the tank and so surprisingly he is started swimming freely since morning. Too happy ❤

I think a lot of fish are skittish because we cast a shadow as we approach...their instinct tells them that the shadow could belong to a predator...I found when I moved one of my tanks that had mbuna in it they went from always being out the front to hiding as soon as I or anybody else approached the tank..I moved the tank back to where they were before and they stopped hiding.....the only difference that I could see was that I cast a shadow due to a window when they were in the position where they were always hiding....I have also noticed this when I wear dark clothes and approach the tank...

Especially when they want to play or interact with you. Normally, loaches and catfishes would approach you and even glide near your hand (loose skin to nibble on I guess), but my fishes are so scared lately that I am scared they will die from hunger. I hope to get more loaches and cat fishes to get them to not be afraid any more and be playful like the ones my brother had. Today was great news that they ate some shrimp waffers. I hope with the new log I got them will help them not to be so scared.

I have 2 bigger fish (koi hybrid) in a tank and they are like VERY shy or scared. I try to make them get used to me about 1month, but they're not going to... If I'm sitting by their side, they are aware but okay. When I walk or make sudden move, they will freak out, swim around, pushed their heads accidentally in glass and then...hide in plants.. I'm kinda sad about it. I want mine fish to be comfortable and happy and idk what to do.. :(
@dwsdarius4 жыл бұрын
That's weird for koi to behave that way. Try feeding worms or other treats to encourage a better association with you
@nedgey6 жыл бұрын
Hm, my tank has some large driftwood and rocks and the american cichlids seem to spend most of their time there instead of giving them confidence. Sometimes I wonder if I should remove everything and force them to get used to no cover instead. Added three silver dollars which helped a bit but even they all bot as soon as anyone goes near the tank. Activity near talk also seems to make it worse rather than give confidence.
@dwsdarius6 жыл бұрын
How long have they been like this? If you can, try feeding earth worms...in some tanks if the dominate fish is timid it can rub off on the rest, but not many cichlids can resist worms...I would feed weekly and that should cause improvements
@nedgey6 жыл бұрын
Pretty much always. Some species better than others. I have a black background which helps and am trying to get a softer light. Maybe it will help to paint the sides of the tank black as well...

Do you see just taking away hiding places a way for the fish to get used to me and others around the tank a method? Will they get stressed out to the point of death? Dither fish and large pipes not working.

My fish are always shy when I take a look at them but when I turn the light off it seems normal what is the problem? Should I choose new fish?
@dwsdarius5 жыл бұрын
How long have you had them? New fish need time to adjust. How often are the lights on vs off? For the best results try to leave the light on for at least 5 hours a day so that they are used to it being on. Try to be active around the tank, eventually they should get used to you.

I have a shy synspilum and I have tried all of these methods he spazes out if I come near the tank and I'm worried he will give himself a concussion by hitting his head on the glass.
@dwsdarius5 жыл бұрын
Is it the only fish in the tank or are there other fish with it? If its the only fish, try looking for some dither fish, if you have other fish in the tank, see if you notice any bullying. Synspilum are just more shy than average cichlids, my 5" one is very shy in a tank with other cichlids.

Hi is there any tips on making my green terror not get scared of me as you know that’s not supposed to happen but as I go away he immediately gets out of his hiding place there is plenty of hiding places in the tank tank mates and I did all the things you have told me in this vid.
@dwsdarius4 жыл бұрын
Hello, what kind of tank mates do you have? Other cichlids can pose as competition to the green terror which can encourage more behavior, also fish like silver dollars don't hide much, so that may help encourage the green terror to come out

I have 2 firemouths 1 frontosa and 3 Bala sharks in a 125 gallon tank with the green terror of course

How many fish do you have in the tank? Some fish coming from heavily stocked tanks will need help getting comfortable in the tank so if you have space you could look to add some dither fish

Me juveline Oscars hide like this.. I bought them 3 days ago and they hide behind the wood, my problem is not that they hide because I know they will acclimate and start swimming, the problem is that if they hide all the time how am I supposed to feed them?? Right now I feed them some times only when they don't hide and they only eat if the food is right in front of them... an suggestion? Should I wait a little more?
@dwsdarius6 жыл бұрын
Yes give it a week before you start getting worried. Oscars are greedy fish so eventually once they are comfortable they will always won't to eat...leading to limited hiding. especially if you have more than 1, which is what it sounds like.
