I use Four Nightmares in one of my main family shows. The truth is that when it's new, the gimmicks are so perfect, they're invisible. But after just 3 or 4 performances they're very, very obvious. The good news is that in no time, you'll realise it's a simple matter to handle them very freely, but always keep the gimmicks hidden. Works far better as "phase 2" of a Professor's Nightmare routine, or as a finale to Fiber Optics......you can actually use these ropes to perform several regular routines. But preferably start out with ungimmicked ropes, (which can be handed out before starting if you want), go through the regular routine, then put them aside, do an unrelated routine , the pick up apparently the same ropes, but in fact switch them out for the Tenyo set. Extremely good reactions, but you do need experience to make this work. As a stand-alone, it's very short and has little to engage the audience. Once you've used them a few times, there's no chance you'll get away with it close-up. All that said, I really love the routine, and it will remain in my show for a considerable time. The Statue of Liberty production didn't interest me (it's very reminiscent of a twisted pen gag/trick, the name of which I've forgotten). But I've just fallen in love with the travel version of "Spread" from Alakazam Magic, and the Liberty Statue is one of the outs. Suddenly, I'm all over this, and coming up with multiple ways to incorporate it into a travel-themed routine. It's also very handy that one of the Spread reveals is the Eiffel Tower......so it makes a simple connection to Statue of Liberty, since the French donated it to the US, and there is a small Statue of Liberty in Paris. The coin penetration is really good. Marvin's Magic make a version of this, which is self-contained, and takes care of all the sleights. Very nice too. If I have to choose a favourite, it's definitely Four Nightmares. If I have to choose my favourite Tenyo trick, it's "Magical Plunger". Frankly, brilliant, funny, unusual, it ticks every box. Except it's still a card trick, but only just!
